It’s been 34 years (September 21, 1985) since these courageous, talented men released their original eponymous EP! It only had 6 tracks, but it still holds up well years later.
They were so ahead of their time, when I see some of these bands on Vans Warped Tour, I think to myself "How many were influenced by Fishbone?" "Wack a doo, wack a doo, wack a doo, wack a doo!"
I remember late night...getting wasted on weed and Heineken's.....and this video came on. I was geeked. All my influences, from Zappa, George Clinton, Sun Ra and the Dada movement flashed in front of my eyes. I remember thinking..."There is a Black Avant-garde out there" We really need this style bad now, because Black Pop is so generic and homogenized now.
The music video for "Party at Ground Zero" was directed by Henry Selick,[1] future director of The Nightmare Before Christmas. --from the song's wikipedia entry.
Fishbone is seriously EVERYTHING Red Hot Chili Peppers WISH they were. Almost impossibly talented, capable of gloriously catchy songs that never came off cheesey or pop sellout sounding, African American (obviously), creative enough to come up with their own original costuming and stage show concepts, and brilliant enough to write lyrics that are both intellectually challenging, yet with a mighty sense of humor. FISHBONE, PLEASE TOUR AND PLAY IN MY BACKYARD! \m/
They were on friendly terms in the 80s iirc. All those off-center bands. I saw Fishbone 2x. One show in 1989 in Brooklyn they were the kings of the universe… unbelievably high energy. Saw them just a few years later and they seemed like they ran out of gas.
Hey from a white guy in Australia, don't forget the original "real " king of rock and roll, Chuck Berry. His guitar style influenced music for the following decades and he was doing vocals that could be considered rap, at times.
Great guys. I was present back in the 80's when Moore kicked a huge hole through the wall out into the parking lot at the Mason Jar nightclub wall in Phx. Oh memories . . .
JohnDaker'sArmy Daker Wish I had seen them in the 80's. I have seen them six times, each awesome in it's own way ranging from 94 up to November 2016. Never the entire original lineup though, although 94 show was close. Best live act I've ever seen and I've seen a ton
Saw these guys for the sixth time since 94 last November. Great show as always, only downside was the club pulled the plug way too early for my liking, cost us one hell of an encore according to the setlist. This, Ma and Pa and Bonin in the boneyard
Wow, this song is timeless. I had no idea it was this old. The first time I heard it was around 2008. I assumed it was a fresh track at the time. Still holds up even today.
One of the best and most fun songs ever. Saw these guys on the "Truth And Soul" tour ('88?) at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver in front of a sold-out 1,000 and they were insanely great.
Love the new hampshire license plate at 1:30. Brilliant video. Goes without saying, I will, brilliant band... wow, these guys were such a force. Didn't know the same guy directed Nightmare Before... They worked with the Eurythmics, were in a video anyway... I just saw em last week, sadly 3 original members. Still great though. it's kinda sad it seems they got left behind kinda somehow in the mix.
I love the dancing shadows in the afterburn. This song is so in touch. It reminds me of Isaiah 29:4
Brought low, you will speak from the ground; your speech will mumble out of the dust. Your voice will come ghostlike from the earth; out of the dust your speech will whisper. 4:00
amen to that....sadly I have never gotten the chance to see them live. But when I die and go to hell there is a juke box in New York that has EVERY Fishbone album on it and $3 pints of guiness, I hope I land there.
one of the most underrated songs ever, unless you ask people that remember it. shit influenced so many bands you hear after
People who know about it rate it. So, you know, go figure.
I haven't listened to this song for decades, but on the eve of WW3, here I am.
The man sitting in the directors chair for this went on to direct Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. Life goals: set!
What? Henry Selick directed this? Wow, thanks I never knew that.
Plus coraline and wendell & wild
Monkeybone makes more sense now lol

I still have the cassette somewhere in a box in the garage.
So many memories come back with this song… I was working at Independent Records in the Springs when this came out. Loved then as now!
I swear this video had my friend and I cracking up and I've never been able to find it again since I was 14
One of the best ska songs ever.
That, and everything by The English Beat...
One of my favorite Fishbone songs!! Always puts me in a good mood even when life just sucks🎭

They were so ahead of their time, when I see some of these bands on Vans Warped Tour, I think to myself "How many were influenced by Fishbone?"
"Wack a doo, wack a doo, wack a doo, wack a doo!"
I saw them at the '96 Warped Tour. They were awesome!
This music video is absolutely bonkers and I love everything about it!!
Fishbone covered many genres. They are musically versatile and awesome for that reason.
When was the last time someone made such fun music that actually said something?

We didn't know those were going to be the good old days!
This is the song that got me hooked ,being ska but didn't realize they are all over the place as far as genres.
The music video for "Party at Ground Zero" was directed by Henry

The talent in this band is scary...
Hollywood Paladium was where I was able to experience this band. It was fun.

really could not have said it better
This is goof but red hot is better
What a goofy comment
They had a big influence on the '90s era ska-punk..bands like reel big fish to name one. I wish the sound didn't fuzz out in the late 2000's
Play It Boy Wonder! the best line in the song lol Love me some fishbone!
Was my very first concert @15, bought my tickets to see Beastie Boys, left a Fishbone forever fan!
Please do not fear 'cause Fishbone is here to say
Don't PANIC!
Just have a good time cause that time is far away!
Saw them last night at the Wellfleet Beachcomber, Wellfleet, MA and they were fantastic.
Oh wow they played The Beachcomber?!?!?
Seen this on night flight....back in the day
Wait! Was that the Moon from the 80's McDonalds Commercial? Cool!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I saw this vid on Vh1 Classic a number of years ago and it feels awesome to revisit it after so long! I’ve slept on this band big time
Well, it’s near the end of 2022, and I for one am enjoying my big bowl of flowing pink vapor stew.
I don't know why but my friend and rolled on the floor with laughter at this when i was 14
Love the song but the music video is legitimately one of the best in history. Incredible retelling of the mask of the red death
The world needs more African American rock bands!!!!!!!!
Bad Brains, Living Colour... there have to be more!
Hey from a white guy in Australia, don't forget the original "real " king of rock and roll, Chuck Berry. His guitar style influenced music for the following decades and he was doing vocals that could be considered rap, at times.
The 'Toreador Song' guitar part they snuck into this is cool.
When I first got into ska, this was the first song I found and I still love it!
Elisa Pentz infectious isn't it
@@derekwilson9127 yes, definitely
I saw them in 93’ or 94’ Warped Tour... absolutely amazing
Good teenage memories.

I met Moore one time in Missoula Montana - he was so low-key, and friendly. Just a good dude. God? 1997? Long time ago.
I saw them at Celebrity Theater opening for Beastie Boys... thought the national guard would get called... show was off the charts
Saw this on USA Night Flight Atomic Tv back in 1986
If you think this video is weird, remember it's director directed Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline.
Wish band's like this would come back
Lynn Wilkerson hell yeah man
just say no to adding apostrophes to plural nouns
I'm seeing them with their original lineup at Fairfield, CT in a week 3/23/17 .. they are still around.

Saw these guys for the sixth time since 94 last November. Great show as always, only downside was the club pulled the plug way too early for my liking, cost us one hell of an encore according to the setlist. This, Ma and Pa and Bonin in the boneyard
The video was directed by Henry Selick, the same guy who did "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Coraline."

One of the best and most fun songs ever.
Saw these guys on the "Truth And Soul" tour ('88?) at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver in front of a sold-out 1,000 and they were insanely great.
seen them live in a.c. and Vegas really really kicked ass for an older band.
Damn I love this vid and band.
Love the new hampshire license plate at 1:30. Brilliant video. Goes without saying, I will, brilliant band... wow, these guys were such a force. Didn't know the same guy directed Nightmare Before... I want this playing at my funeral
Is their only song where Kendall Jones sang lead vocals? I believe it is.
Preach!
I love the dancing shadows in the afterburn. This song is so in touch. It reminds me of Isaiah 29:4
Brought low, you will speak from the ground; your speech will mumble out of the dust.
Your voice will come ghostlike from the earth; out of the dust your speech will whisper. 4:00
