I used to have a cockatiel named Spikey Doo. I loved him so much and took him with me everywhere. He was always saying sweet and funny things. When I came home from having cancer surgery he jumped on my lap, told me he loved me, and started climbing up my chest; when he saw the bandage he climbed back down, went and got one of his treats, climbed up the other side and tried to feed it to me. I miss him so much.

I was outside on my porch feeding the Red-bellied Woodpecker that i hand raised. He lives outside in the trees now and comes back to eat the wax worms and mealworms i provide for him all day. He was on my patio table while i was watching your video. He was so interested in the sounds of your birds coming from my phone. It was so cute. He was listening so intently he couldnt shut his beak. Watching you gave me the strength to care for him at 1 day old. He is my friend but wont let me hold him anymore. It has been such a adventure. Thanks for sharing with us. Yall are amazing people. ❤

At one time I purchased a male AFFRICAN GRAY AND SET them up as a breeder pair. After living together for a year I went into the Avery and Taco Marie said ‘I am ready to go home now. I felt so sad I scooped her up and took her into the house. She never asked for Sailor. It was obvious to me she was much happier as a pet. Enjoy you pets. Parrots were such a joy to our family.

One can easily see that she pays attention to her birds, that she understands them, that she has done intensive research. And i love how she explains it all, it is simple, easy to understand and filled with love. Bravo Marycarl, please keep on educating us more and more about these special little feathery creatures!

Brooke, you and Mary Carl and her birds are a joy to watch and learn. When I was a child and visited my Uncle Bob in the summers, he had a parakeet named Pete. What joy Pete brought to us. Mary Carl you took me back to wonderful childhood memories with my Uncle Bob and Pete. The Lord willing, I'll be 71 in October. May God continue to bless you all.

Hi ladies! Nice video. Always something new to learn👍🏻. We have a cockatoo named Lecter. He is a very talkative bird, and has a huge vocabulary. Our favourite is listening to him make a phone call. He ‘dials’, says ‘hi, how are you? Then he strings a bunch of conversation together, and then ends with ‘OK, gotta go’ before he says ‘bye’ and then beeps to hang up. It is so much fun👏🏻👏🏻🤣🕊

Today I learned sooo much about birds and homeschooling - proof positive we are never too old to learn. (I am 72.) I never heard the word homeschooling until I was a senior in high school, maybe it wasn't a common practice in the many cities where we resided. Seeing you 2 together reminds me of my bond with my dear, precious Mother. She was and remains my very best friend ever although she passed in 1999. The birds are awesome! I appreciate their personality traits and moods, they have that in common with humans. MaryCarl is learning so much about responsibilities while teaching everyone else about different birds. I agree with Lester, MaryCarl is indeed a bird expert. I am so thankful you decided to start this channel!

I know here(in Australia) each semester there is at least one, age similar, activity. One year the whole of this district students with their families were invited to “MON REEPO” beach. Turtles have been laying & hatching eggs there in time for ever. Camping was stipulation. Supply your own food -- a very suitable reasonable expense for all. There were over 100 students. Daily activities were very holiday (but educational) appropriate. One session each day was drawing. Others were observing differences in the area, another a scavenger hunt -- different levels age appropriate. After dark guides showed the way to turtles laying eggs. I’m now 72 and I enjoyed and learned. My g/son right through to be a VHA and matriculated. A very high IQ. He’s 22 and still learning.
Your hi Mrs & Miss Cog Hill. You are learning, I think the best way possible. I FULLY ENDORSE Home Schooling. All my love, Ellen. 🇦🇺💕❤️💕🇦🇺

The "problems" with home schooling were probably the hardest for the early families. I know of one whose student seemed motivated but was always in trouble for interrupting the class during the first coiple of months of kindergarten; so the parents pulled thier son from school, and all but lived at the library for the rest of the year. They were told to let him work at his own rate, interest level, attention span, and maintain a minimum number of hours per day in a couple of specified subject areas. First grade rolled around and in a pre-entry review the school essential said they really couldn't take him and didn't want to take him 'cause he was so far above grade level, asked what the heck the parents were doing, and effectively said keep it up. The good news for this family was that as they entered thier third year, mom became more of a research librarian, materials gatherer, and keeper of the schedule including "field trips" and extra curricular activities. Good news you say? This child became a year 'round learner by his own choice with a world view that if he could do this, and learn that he could learn or explore something else which had peeked his curiosity. By that first grade re-entry review, mom was already feeling a little frazzled. Again, the "curriculum" consisted of the library stacks and what they had to offer.

I have a friend that had a African Grey... Of course, they covered his cage at night, and he would get mad. So he picked a tiny hole in it and they covered him up and he would sit there and say 'I can still see you!' My friend worked at a Veterinarian and she rescued many animals. At night they 'put them to bed' in their little beds, covered the Grey and after he did his I can still see you, he would call all the animals and get all of them out of bed running around, just for spite bc their owner covered him. He was such a AWESOME bird. I love seeing these babies and learning so much about them. I had a Cockatiel who knocked on his food dish and wouldn't stop until I yelled 'Come in' and Jake was satisfied! Thank you for sharing

Good morning ladies. I learned more today about your birds. Every time Marycarl gives a lesson about her birds I am amazed at facts she shares. I homeschooled my kids and in California there are several ways to do it. We had a teacher who I could call if I had a problem teaching a subject. She went over it with me and then I taught my son. They provided the kids books and the teachers manual. I wrote out weekly assignments and that way if they got all done and wanted to work ahead. My daughter completed 3rd grade by Christmas and started 4th grade. She is 42 with 4 kids and a husband, decided to go back to college and is working on her Masters degree. My son who struggled because of medical issues had a hard time. When we found something he enjoyed it was incorporated into his schooling and now he is finishing up his 21st year in the military and has so much knowledge about how things work and how to troubleshoot. You would not know he had severe learning disabilities as a child. I praise homeschooled kids they learn better and are extremely smart and I found happier.

Hi Brooke & MaryCarl! Love you guys! 💞 I have an idea I'm hoping you'll do a video on.... You've mentioned in the past how Nugget's legs "bend backward." What you thought was his knee is actually his ankle, and his ankle bends in the same direction as ours does. In the evolution of birds, the thigh bones became greatly reduced while the foot and toe bones elongated. You can see similar evolution in the hind legs of your cows, goats, pig, cats, and dogs. If you research this, you will find that they all evolved in slightly different ways. It's a fascinating subject, and I thought you guys might want to learn more. Another amazing video from the Ladies of Cog Hill! I home schooled my two girls using Abeka. There was no school to do the teachers part, I had to do the grading and recording of their progress, grades, test results, etc. myself. The state of Louisiana required you keep these records, but we were never audited. We had several families in our area that home schooled and for their social development we would get together and do activities together once or twice a month such as field trips to the zoo or the children's museum. We also attended the same church and this added to their social outings. I enjoyed home schooling and glad I was able to raise my girls in this way.

Hi Brooke and Mary Carl! It was wonderful to see your video pop up. Love the birds and listening to you both talk about them.
Thank you for sharing about homeschooling! I've never heard anyone explain about it before now. My boys are in their 30's and I didn't home school but always wondered how it worked. Brooke, you and Jason are raising a wonderful young lady! Kudos to both of you. Mary Carl is amazing! God bless you all

So glad u showed your birds. And how to care for them. Too many people get them and don't realize how to raise them. As a result the birds get emotional problems. Bless u Mary carl

I just love your videos! I enjoy MaryCarl sharing her knowledge of birds. I have learned so much from her, and love to see her open up, and feel more comfortable talking to us. She may benefit from a mic clipped to her shirt. She has such a sweet, tiny voice. Keep up the good work, girls!! We're loving it!! 🤩😍🥰. Hugs to you both!! God bless.

Good Morning Brooke & MaryCarl! I enjoy all your birds, but the inside birds definitely have different personalities. Ren (sp?) didn't want to let go of you MaryCarl after you started paying attention to her. Really cute!
I enjoyed the info on your homeschooling curriculum. I bet you can get the work done in half the time than in regular school since you don't have to take the time to line up with 15 other students every time you want to go somewhere. ha! Public & private schools are important & necessary - -but it's great there's alternative company making good curriculum for homeschooling. Happy learning! :o)

I enjoyed seeing your birds. Thanks for sharing. I had a Quaker that said over 100 words named Lucy, she was very comical but was a one person bird, she only would sit on my late husband. When he passed, she was very sad so I re-homed her to a lady who raised them so she could have company. Hope you received my package.

My grandkids are doing home schooling through EPIC Charter Schools, they meet face to face so many times a year and do zoom meetings on there computers weekly. They get all the help they need if I can not help them and tutoring. They have different things they do outside of that for activities. They really love it and the first one graduates this year and is in Law School and the 16yr old starts nursing school this fall. I'm so proud of them

I had a Quaker parrot for 20 years. His name was Kiwi. He was so fun and had so much personality. I’ve seen videos of them chasing their people around the house too. Kiwi travelled with me from California to S. Carolina once and he slept on my shoulder
The whole way. He had quite the vocabulary and played peekaboo. He could bark just like our dog, and when you asked him where is the kitty he would start meowing and calling ‘here kitty kitty’. He passed away awhile ago and I really miss him.
