Love how it ebbs and flows though the melody concludes with a striking similarity to 'As tears go by' (Jagger/Richards)..? My fave Teardrops piece apart from The Great Dominions
His eyes corroborate the story well enough. Not quite as good as the first time Stiff Little Fingers did TOTP and got shitfaced in the BBC bar before they went on. The drummer is laughing and hitting stuff with his hands half the time. Never hurts to have a little fun, especially when you're forced to lipsync to your own music.
Bass player Alfie Agius (I think). Two trumpets Luke Tunny (I think) and Ted Emmett (I'm sure (I think!)). michaelsnow correct about Troy Tate and Gary Dwyer.
Forgot just how good this song was' an absolute classic.
One of the finest songs ever written
What's the lyric about?
@@blackmore4 No idea
i loved it
@@blackmore4 A passionate friend.
Brilliant song. 40 years old but still relevant.
Reminds me of the late summer of 1981 aftermath of riots etc also early part of the English football season. Music is instant time travel.
Fucking love this guy. He's my generation's David Bowie
I was there in the audience
Lucky
Lucky you. I am jealous

It's obviously As Tears Go By , wonder if the Stones got a credit
My first girlfriend had a big crush on Julian Cope. I like this song as it always reminds me of her. Happy days...Good times.
John du Prez's the trumpeter on the right - who was back on TOTP a few times after he joined Modern Romance.
According to his memoir Cope and the drummer were tripping during this, having dropped acid that afternoon.

he said he felt really high on the piano lol
I’ve read his book, defo.
Good song
The song is supposed to be about Ian McCulloch’s sister.
That's why the " crucial 3 "never performed again ,Julian was seeing maccas sister and he didn't like it ❤
Half the time...
Never quite coming together.

Where is their keyboard player?
Jeff Hammer's playing the white grand piano Julian's standing on. Both Jeff and bassist Alfie Agius were sacked only days after this TV appearance.
The Police.
