Burning Spear is one of the few reggae living legends left. This album is real reggae music built by musicians and not computers. Classic reggae music.
Winston Rodney you have enriched my musically life! Luv di classic chuneZ dem A GROUNDED !!! especially dis Album cause STUDIO ONE IS NUMBER ONE. BLESS
my musical medicine as well id like to add, the roots speak very well and very clear. if id heard this vs too short if of never lost my place in a distance to outside influence. burning spear (winston rodney and all the others in') have made my personal journey so much better and positive
praise Jah for the internet! honestly i am so thankful to people who post reggae, especially old school reggae for us younger generations (I'm 36 years old) to discover.. from my understanding Burning Spear is Creation Rebel??? cuz Creation Rebel is like the sweetest! PEACE!
to me this is what grow me made me think of who i am , where i come from , and where i am going , a masterfull teacher, creation to hear this classic properly YOU HAVE TO BE IN A DANCE ,to understand how the spear come to them lyrics. as the brother said thank god for the internet ,now the world and is brother can tek een the spear ,hail jah , one love ,..........each one teach one
It is a perfect marriage between the hard-nosed, streetwise Coxsone and his solid dependable hit factory studio business, and the unique artistic vision and vocal ability of Winston Rodney. There is no one who writes songs like Winston Rodney....except maybe occasionally Joseph Hill! But it shows the importance of writing, of the writer's unique vision. Rodney had an entire body of work ready to go, and Sir Coxsone had the team all in place to provide the perfect musical backing for it.
never really got into burning spear but i agree on music not made with computers all reggae is nowadays is samplers and computer drum loops its been spoiled the bongoes rough audio background hissing thats what reggae should sound like.
It is written that a 'Natural Mystic' blew in from Zimbabwe via Thomas Mapfumo (whose name means 'Spear'), and Jamaica via Robert Nesta Marley (Bendane Selassie) and Winston Rodney aka Burning Spear. They were born one after the other in 46 and 47. see if you can find 'Thomas Mapfumo Live in Albaquerque'. I am loving this classic early stuff of Burning Spear. Thank you youtube
a god one but the spear has done many good and even better records like social living ,haile him ,resistace just to name a few he is the king of roots reggae ive been to 2 conserts its a religious experience its hard to find other words to describe it you drift of to another world even the swedish polise was grooving to the beat and didnt care about the smokers i n i wish for brotherly and sisterly love to grow and conquer the world peace
I bet I'm wrong; but playing this on record gives it that "burning" sound of crackling and snapping--I like to think that's part of the reason for picking Burning Spear as the name.
And? ..what's your point? Everyone has issues; I'm "retarded" and you have the permanent, mental capacity and maturity of a ten year old walrus. Still trying to understand the point your ineptly attempting to make here..

the base line plus that voice and drums ,blood even though it was not a nice time for black man ,i know understand that when they where cutting this music [reggea in gen ]they were reflecting what was going on then ,if it was not for giants like these i would still be thinking in a european way ,as i ve already stated great teachers .founding fathers of the music known as protest music , some call it reggea . hail jah .each one teach one [check the track journey] otherwise known as traveling ,the two version BAD. one love
Great point, it might not be just on the remastered version. There is a vinyl rip of "Get Ready" here on RUclips where the bass is ridiculously heavy. It's a single, also by Coxsone records and to my knowledge not remastered, so maybe there were alternate mixes even back in the day. I really prefer the version here, for the reasons you point out. Maybe they thought the bass heavy mix would play better in the dancehalls.
One of the most original and important albums ever.
Got this album, played it to death, love Winston Rodney, this was an album that took me on my reggae journey,it's still my thing
Pure roots reggae from the early times. Great... Brings back sweet memories. Thnx.
Winston let the Spear burning long, long life ahead. Bless you...
