i miss you Botham, cricket never been the same since you left. Cricketing world owe you for the entertainment you provided for all those years. ... I used to be a teen then living in Pakistan
By 1992, Ian Botham was 37 years old, had had two major back operations so he could still walk (let alone bowl), had started his own wine company (in Australia, of course), was a dad to grown-up children, was a multi-millionaire, had done everything anyone could ever have asked of a player to become a legend a decade before, still drank like there was about to be a worldwide ban on alcohol, and played country cricket as an amusing hobby. And yet here he was, with England, still hungry and hell bent on bashing Australia (a country he loves as much as England, by the way - see above). What an outright hero and warrior. A champion.
ludocrat Wrong a bit there. He was still playing as he had ODI World Cup ambitions, as England never won a World Cup back then. And wrong about county cricket, he worked and trained hard in county cricket you tool, to get to the top. He said it was myth he wasn’t a hard worker on his cricket. Yet you label him a lazy cricketer who didn’t work hard on his cricket. And also back then, there wasn’t all the nutrition knowledge players have today. He had talent but was a hard worker yet you label him lazy eg saying he treated county cricket and playing for England a hobby .
@@Steve50663 I think you've over reacted there mate and one could argue that you are the tool for doing so. He wasn't implying he was lazy, and the overall flavour of his comment was accurate. Botham was unique in that between 77-84 his lifestyle didn't prevent wonderful test achievements, but I reckon if he had taken better care of himself he could have achieved even more. Allowing for that he is still the second best all rounder ever (behind Sobers) and I love him
19:25 the run out was a good decision by Steve Bucknor. Steve Bucknor gave him out right away. He pointed his pointer finger up right away. Also he puts his foot up right away LOL
Ian Botham seemed to play his best cricket against Australia. He just had the wood over them. Similar thing happened with Shane Warne. Although he was very good against other countries, he seemed to save his very best cricket for when he played England. That’s the power of the Ashes. A lot of England and Australian players have said that’s the only series that really matters. Although India have now joined the party in recent years.
England had the best team in this world cup. They were really unlucky to lose the final against Pakistan.Javed Miandad was out plumb lbw to Pringle in the final not once but twice. Another shocker from Steve Bucknor, who was a very overrated umpire. Also, Ian Botham got a bad decision in the second innings from the other umpire Brian Aldridge.
it did, it was the playback mechanicals that was the let down. BBC cameras in the UK used 35mm way back for some broadcasts, most of the big film studios recorded in 'HD' over 60 years ago, Films like Ben Hur were filmed on 65mm, that's equivalent to 30-40MP for a still/single frame. 4K is only about 9MP which is just above 16mm film level.
Australia was appalling in this series. Went with a team of old pops when plenty of young talent who went on to form one of the greatest Australian ODI (and Test) teams of all time were largely available for selection....
Agree 100%. Bob Simpson had way too much control of the side back then, especially with selection. He was too stubborn & set in his ways & didn't believe in change. While other countries picked special ODI squads, Australia basically selected their test team + a couple of extras. Even Merv Hughes made the squad! They had talented youngsters in the wings like Bevan, Lehmann & Hayden who were forced to wait years in Shield cricket before they got a go. They didn't select O'Donnell, Reiffel or Warne in the squad; they left out Mark Waugh from the early games & only brought him in later after everyone else had failed & it was already too late. Boon was the best opener & Jones the best no. 3 in the ODI world going into tournament but were both forced to bat in different positions to accomodate a couple of sloths in Marsh & Taylor who both should never have been picked in the 1st place. And they only reluctantly promoted Moody to open after copying all the other sides with their pinch hitters. I remember this was their 4th game after getting thrashed in their first 2 by NZ & SA & barely scraping through with a win in game 3 v India who got the wrong end of the stick from a ridiculous rain rule that plagued the whole tournament right up to South Africa's controversial loss in the semis.
England ki team badi Umar k players k saath khel Rahi thi westindies k Gordon greenidge or sir Viv Richards bhi world cup khelna chahte tha but westindies k cricket board na unko nahin khilaya agar woh hote toh westindies world cup Jeet Sakta tha westindies cricket board na apni team ko fail kiya hai

Great catch by De Freitas. One of my favourite players from this era.

My cricket hero when I was growing up. A once in a generation player. We probably would have won the 1987 World Cup if he was playing.

Ian Chapell having to commentate (through clenched teeth) whilst Botham rips Australia apart... LOOOL!
Might be why Beefy did a little dance when he bowled Allan Border!! He knew Ian Chappell was on commentary!! 🤣🤣
My thoughts exactly. Something went wrong in that family...bunch of mean spirited s****....
“ even if he did play for Scunthorpe United “.
@@mrkipling2201 How would Botham have known that you fucktard!!
Child hood memory😢
14:25 Allan border is bowled by border haha 😄 spelling mistake they should have written Botham but a very good match 👍
England at last rule the world England world champions 2019.Great video buddy Botham was the Stokes of his time.
More like stokes is botham of this era

Saurabh Lawate plus Pakistan cheated tampering with the ball
True Brother
2019 has finally replied
Yes you are correct Botham never nicked that One 🌃
Pig they won world Cup , which they don't deserve
1992 کا ورلڈ کپ اس لحاظ سے بہت یادگار ہے کے کرکٹ کے تمام سپر سٹارز سوائے رچرڈ کے کرکٹ کی رونق دوبالا کئے ہوئے تھے
Channel 9 great commentary team
“ theory never won a cricket match “. How right you were Richie Benaud. Maybe not for this game but in general.
How umpires would give run out easily with the naked eye no 3rd umpire required
Most of the time they were criticised for doing the opposite: not giving batsman out when the fielders thought it was definitely out.
It seems there were more English than the Aussies in the crowds!
England 🏴😍
Mark Taylor and Allan Border failed miserably in this 1992 World Cup of cricket
Botham bowling at 60 mph? still getting wickets 😳
He might not have been bowling as fast as he used to at that time but he was still deadly accurate. He normally put the ball in the right place.
Greig could have written for the Carry On movies.......'the umpire getting his finger up nice and quickly'.....
It was in 1992 unfortunately HD did not exist

Good batting australia
With regards to the interview at the end with Botham what is the nickname he is giving Tony Greig? Sounds like he is trying to slip in for a joke
It's look Tony Greg 😂😁
I suppose Boon should have dived... altbough he might just have bounced
hahaha

Swamisttyle ur correct bro
Definitely should have picked Warne for the team. He’d already played test cricket in the 91/92 season against India.

Botham generally wasn’t a strong ODI all rounder... This was one of his better odi games.
describing beefy as 'athletic', not in ;92 he wasn't.lol

Anyone else notice it said Bordber out b. Border?
In those days australian pitches were really fast
Australia had such a poor world cup
