Fantastic footballer. Although Kempes rightly got the plaudits in 78, Ardiles really the heartbeat of the team through the tournament. I remember he missed a game or so that tournament through injury and you could really notice they lacked cohesion when he wasn't there.

Him and Ricky Villa joined Tottenham in 1978 after a 47 year long ban on foreign players in the first division, and it was just what the doctor ordered. Iconic player responsible for some fantastic FA Cup highlight reels.

At the first look he didn.t seem ti be' a special player ,but he was a great player, inteligent, well oriented on the pitch good technicaly and had team spirit .

In World Cup 1982 Argentina used an alphabetical squad number system. In that team, only two players refused the alphabetical numbers.

I think we are cool with the midfielders we have right now. They have a mixture between the physicality and pace of european football and the classic argentinian dna, Macallister is my favourite of them all.
