Mmm Bacon!
Love you Laura, I've been around since 10K 'scibers. Instead of doing such a campy posed spiel, just do the food in your kitchen and table. We are not here to see you "act" We are here to see the real you, your wonderful personality and smile. Don't copy. Be you.
GoodChop should give you a bonus for that advert...
Hello Beautiful Laura good morning love ❤❤
Bacon makes the world go round! :)
These people are very good example, when you work hard, you can get wherever you want, good Americans❤❤
Great video! Brings back memories of the sixties when my brother and I opened the door slats to shovel the bin s out. Then came those sweep augers in the 70's. Up there where you all have monster bins I bet your dad's could tell y'all about the days before the sweep augers! It's a pleasure watching the things you and your hubby do together. Hoping the best with your never ending chores
Nothing like team work!😊
Good morning Laura, always like seeing your bright sunny face to start my day. You are going to be a beautiful grandma, don't worry. Thanks for taking us along today.
Been there, done that. Cleaning grain bins can be a nasty chore. I always had bad allergies and after some years of this, I started having issues with dust emphysema. So, my feed mill and grain handling days ended--happily, my dust emphysema went away, too.
So happy to see you wearing a mask inside the bin! Well done.
Laura, most parts stores have “battery tenders” that are relatively cheap when you consider the cost of batteries. When hooked up with batteries that set idle for long periods they keep them active especially in cold weather. I have found that they extend the battery life immensely. They will pay for themselves in no time! Check with your Extension Agent about safety issues in that dusty environment. One static spark can set off an explosion! You can imagine the rest of the story. Enjoy your videos. Be safe.
Harbor Freight
You can get a solar one for stuff that isn’t going to be parked close to an outlet to plug a regular maintainer in.
Very true and they work well for my equipment
Memories! I did that a number of times with my dad years ago. Only we didn't have dust masks, and would come out of the bin spitting mud. Memories 😁
Laura, Your aeration fans do they push air through the grain from the bottom up, or do they suck air from the top and discharge at the fans? If they suck air from the top, start them up when you're in the bin and they'll pull over 90% of the dust out of the bin. If the fans push air then have a Millwright come in and turn them, you'll be glad you did. Pusher fans work great but the need to have power vent fans on the roof. if not condensation when cooling the grain creates condensation with drippy spouts. Been there and done this.
I love how informative you guys are… I learn something every time I watch Laura Farms
Hello Laura.
I Love too Sie working together.
Nice to see your work on the farm.
Thanks for sharing your video's ❤👍
Cleaning out the grain bin. That job was just above putting up clover hay, and unplugging a combine in oats. Good job Laura Farms!
You never cease to amaze me Laura. Between you and your husband I don’t think there is anything you can’t do. It is so cool how you get in there and do everything. Awesome!!!❤
On camera that is.
Hi Laura!) Thanks for the regular videos, I want to say the obvious thing, I hope you don't get offended: you used to show your dad's farm, it's really cool, and seed corn is the most interesting thing I've seen on RUclips on the topic of agronomy. Now you and Grant have your own farm, it is just starting its journey, I would like to see more processes that are unique for you or the state of Nebraska so that the content is as interesting as 2 years ago. Surprise me and others and we will respond with a like and a comment. Thank you for your work)
Bought some Good Chop. Thanks 👍
Hi Laura thanks for the great entertainment. I just got a tad little bit of a fyi, when you got into the semi and released the handle on the right side of the steering wheel I just about lost my grits... lol Helpful hint that is what we call a Johnny Bar, its purpose is for doing a tug test on the trailer to make sure the king pin is latched. It is not for parking, the red and yellow knobs are your park brakes for the tractor and trailer. Luckily you are a flat lander and never have to experience a truck rolling away down a steep hill because the air pressure bled off but not quit enough to release the or pop the brake buttons but enough to allow the air pressure to lower enough so the brakes that get applied when that Johnny Bar is applying, which is the trailer brakes only, isn't sufficient enough to hold the vehicle anymore.
If you pop both the red and yellow knobs you lose air to your trailer air bags and have no way of knowing when your trailer is legally full. Pop the knob for the tractor brakes and use the Jonny Bar for the trailer. Tractor brakes are sufficient on level ground. Use both if loaded on a slope.
@@jeffmcwilliams4060 It was loaded the night before and no releasing the brakes with the knob does not drop the air bags, what drops the air bags is a switch and the air leaking out throughout the period the engine is not running unless you a very good air system that doesn't leak, which personally I've never seen one.
If you have the red knob pulled while filling the trailer your air bags will not fill. That’s why you use the trailer brake lever, especially when you’re on a slope, while filling your trailer. And yes, I have chased my truck for not doing this. Only way to tell how legal your weight is while field loading is to use your air bag pressure even though the accuracy decreases when on a slope.
June/Nebraska/Omaha = best green trees city scape of the year. Before the weather and bugs get to it. Like a jungle morning green. Lush and deep. About 2005 to 2015, every May came in hot. So, we ended up with two lush green Junes each of those years. Now May's have been chillier past few years. Like Laura said, it's just NOW feeling like Summer here in Nebraska.
See ya bright and early tomorrow 🏜️
Nothing better than bin dust
we got a little idea of what Laura will look like with grey hair.
Good job Laura
prematurely aging.
Still beautiful
Laura will still be a very pretty woman, even when she is covered by snow white hair..
Like the tractors which have battery cutoff switches, trucks need these too. The one reason for a dead battery is a ""parasitic draw, A cutoff switch is the way to prevent this happening,
Thanks for all your hard work so we can eat!
Hi guys, I suggest a solar battery maintainer for those machines, trucks, tractors and engines that are not used from season to season. They come for every voltage that you can imagine.
If the equipment is near a 120v outlet go ahead with a non solar version.
@markholtdorf56 According to the configuration of the batteries you could have a 12v or 24v system,. Semi trucks could have any of those voltages. Seeing how the battery cables are connected and their corresponding label, you can know at what voltage they work. I have followed Laura for a while and they constantly deal with the problem of damaged batteries due to lack of maintenance. They will probably benefit from this addition.
Hi Laura. I noticed when you finished unloading your Corn you released the trailer brake using The Johnson Bar on the right side of the steering wheel. I did that once and those bars have a tendency to loosen up or release. I was on a less than flat piece of cement and the truck tried to roll away (haha) I was right by the door and corrected my mistake. You should always use the parking brake on your dash! Just sayin!! Love your content and it does my heart good to see young hard working folks doing what they love/enjoy. Thanks a new subscriber.:)
Been there and done that many times... makes ya really appreciate a grain vac
Great job cleaning out that bin. I don't know why it takes longer than expected seems like it's like that with everything I do. Seems like whatever I do something breaks down.👍🚜🚜
Laura, you & Grant should get 1/2 face respirators with P-100 filters for these dusty jobs. Dust cups catch only 25% of particles. FYI
Second❤
We shoveled Square 1000 Bushel Bins back when we first moved out to Grandpas farm in 1978. Then came the round 2500B wood round bins. We moved up in 1980 to 5000 Bushel steel bins. The square Bins had cables webbed through them for support. While shoveling you constantly catch the back of your neck on them!! Not a good memory !! LOL
We upgraded to the hydraulic driven floor auger you have but without the back shield so much slower.
When I moved from the Saskatchewan prairies to Calgary AB in 1988 after graduation all of a sudden all the 5000B bins were hoisted with hopper bottoms installed.
Oh well haha - I wouldn't change my childhood whatsoever.
Great video
Oh ya - the old wooden square bins would get holes chewed from rodents - My Grandpa used old license plates to plug them up. Mice used to run up your pant leg so we put our socks over our jeans !! Not such a good memory !! LOL
good work friends, I'm very proud, thank you for sharing a good video😍👍
When you are hooked up to the trailer and park it you can just set the parking brake on the tractor and trailer you don't have to use the handbrake. I think you guys are the cutest couple and I love your videos, can't wait to see what the future holds for you!
Laura, Pete of "Just a Few Acres Farm" will be at the 2023 Red Power Roundup, June 15th-17th, in Grand Island, and that is just an hour's drive from where you are. He is a really nice guy, it would be good for two of you to meet, your enthusiasm, and his personality would make a great combination, and a great video!
If I had a clean slate yard like that where I could start all over I would put 6 rows of spruce pretty much around the whole perimeter of the yard.
God Bless all the hard work!! From SA Texas
Great video👍🏻💪🏻 the bin is ready for the new corn harvest.🇺🇸🇮🇹
Love the video again, and as always you are the prettiest farmer I've ever seen even covered in corn dust. Grant is one lucky guy. Till next time be safe and be happy. 🤗🤗💖💖
That was a LOT of corn left in the bin and took a LOT of work to get it cleaned out.
I can`t believed they aren`t engineered better than that to not leave so much in there!
Another GREAT job.
Ft Wayne, IN.
Laura, both of you have an excellent work ethic! Your parents should be VERY proud of you both! Your YT filming, editing and content is SPOT on. I always look forward to your next upload! Cleaning out grain bins looks like hard work and something you should NEVER attempt by yourself. The corn looks fantastic!
Be careful in those bins,i lost a good friend in one,the beans were not dropping and not thinking he got in it, finally it took off and a hole opened up and he could not get out!By the time they found him it was to late!If you ever find yourself or anybody else trapped in one,get a 5 gallon bucket,if they start sinking you can put that bucket over your head to keep you a little air till they get you out!!
Great job !!!!!!
Amazing how hard you can work.
You Go Girl !!!!!
I ordered my first box of Good Chop. I hope it's worth it. Fingers crossed
I remember doing that as a kid only I had asthma, I didn't mind the work, it was the recovery that was the issue.
Hey Laura (and Grant)… I can't remember if those are new batteries on that truck now or not. If they are and it's a parasitic draw causing the batts to run down, try this to start tracking it down: when you park the truck for a few weeks or longer, (first make sure the batts are fully charged), disconnect the electrical hookups for the trailer (and turn off the the Master Disconnect (if there is one). When you come back to the truck, if the batts are run down again, you know the problem is on the truck side because the electrical hookups for the trailer were unhooked.. If the batts are still charged and you are able to start the truck, then you know the problem is on the trailer side. If on the trailer side, the first thing to look at is the electrical system for the tarp and the hookup on the truck for that, as in reality many truckers who drive trucks w/tarps actually have a problem with them running the batts down when the truck sits. But that may be more common on straight-chassis dump trucks. If on the truck, the starting point for troubleshooting would be to see if any circuits are hooked up between the batts and the Master Disconnect (Switch) and look at those.
Trucks have a main shut off to prevent drain down and save batteries. Use it always! It also avoids fires.
You should try using a plastic shovel on those grain bin air floors. I actually use an 18" snow shovel. Works much better than aluminum grain shovels.
It needs to be all plastic. Once I bought one with a metal cutting edge riveted on. First thing I did was grind the rivets and remove the metal edge.
I hope aspiring young farmers find your channel because you show how to do things, and then teach the importance of doing them, as well as you demonstrate that one can’t know or master everything, but one can become more useful after gaining some level of mastery in a variety of areas. Love your show-keep on keeping on! ✌🏻
Nice work, Sweetheart! You always tackle what has to get done. I am so proud of you and Grant❤Love, Grammy
Just discovered your channel nice to see a young couple continue the Family Farm tradition. I do have a concern regarding the graphite talc used in the seed bins . Asbestos has been found in trace amounts in talc . You may want wear a dust mask when handling the mix. Wishing you fair weather the right amount of rain and a Bountiful Harvest
My uncle Henry and his four brothers life's were shortened by bin dust very happy to Mrs Laura wearing the proper mask in a bin us kids loved getting pulled thru( board with loop ) monster piles of corn to level corn piles
Love you Laura, Grant and Scotty. ❤
You sure earned that win today.
I would recommend a uniform for your hired help. Jeans with holes and strings hanging down near running augers and PTO’s are a good way to see if your insurance will cover his lost leg. Not to mention his appearance is a representation of your farm, whether on camera or off.
Bonus, if said uniform is for safety purposes you can talk to your tax person about a write off. Steel toe/hard toe boots, shirts with logos, I believe denim jeans or jeans that are tear resistant. I can’t remember the jeans one.
Glad to see you found someone willing to work. Stay a positive role model so he can spread the farm bug to his children.
I remember those days of having to shovel out the grain bins ahh memories
Without a sweep auger
i was thinking that too.
Laura, your colored hair is adorable. Hahaha. In all sincerity, I cannot imagine how far you two will go in this lifetime at the rate y’all work and get things done! Love how y’all work so well and so close together. The rewards will come. Trust me, they will.
I bet you could use an air hose right about now, wowzers. You two have such a positive vibe going on, love to see your videos as they include a little bit of everything. Nice.
Mmmm. That bacon looks great. Nice thick slices.
Watching you get out of that semi with all the corn dust in your hair my roommate walks in and says what you watching. I told him he said I thought she was like 23 when did she get all the grey hair? I lost it still chuckling inside 😂😂. That's a messy no fun job it's even better when it's a harvestore with about two feet left and the drive gear shear pin decides today I will fail. Ugh. So stay safe out there and God Bless.
I see Laura went to the Betty Crocker Flame Throwing School of Cooking right along with my sister. Laura turn the heat down when cooking bacon.
I installed a Deltran Solar Battery Tender (solar panel+battery charger+monitor) on my car that sits often and would get dead batteries too and it completely eliminated my dead battery issue. Such a stress reliever - I can't even begin to tell you. I didn't even know that worrying about dead car batteries was such a stresser for me until I got the thing. Anywho, I'd recommend it for the semi truck, maybe even 2, so that you never have to worry about dead batteries again. It will also make the batteries last longer because I don't think lead acid batteries s like to be left dead for too long or they can be damaged.
Grew up on the farm that was the worst job and we always did it on the hottest days but i wish we where still farming now
That’s the best looking corn I ever saw coming out the bottom of a grain bin…!!!! Ours was moldy and sooo dusty 😢1970-1983 ish
If the truck has only been sitting for a few weeks, the batteries shouldn't be dead. If so, usually a quick charge will crank over the engine. The other thing that's concerning, is the use of ether to start the engine. Excessive use can lead to damaging the engine.
I will pass on shoveling anything and, yes, that includes snow and corn. Lol
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?hope you have a wonderful day.God bless you!!❤
Need to put the fans on intake to remove the dusty air
Another winter project, fit a air compressor hose inside the truck. Then you can blow the dust off yourself before driving.
That is one dusty job! Thank you Laura for your smile at the beginning of all your video's it makes for a good day. And thank you and Grant and both of your families for farming I appreciate all of you and all other farmers. Bless all of you and stay safe on the farm.🚜🇺🇲
Laura, you're gonna be an awesome grandma (sometime)
You've gotta admire Laura for not being afraid to get dirty and dusty to get the job done.
I am happy for you folks . We got close to a inch and a half in the last 2 days and supposely more on thursday here in southern ontario across from Detroit.
Great video and great job with the bin cleaning and I think you should put a battery disconnect on the truck it will save you a lot of time and gray hair just means you are wiser and God bless from GA and stay safe
I used to use the bin fan to suck the dust out when in the bin shoveling
It's interesting to note the differences between Nebraska and South Carolina. You just commented about how big and green your corn is getting. My wife and I took a drive the other day and the corn here is four feet tall or better.
The mask caught my eye. So happy to see a smart farmer .
Boy that brought back some memories.
Laura I saw the amount left and I thought.....That will take a while. GOOD JOB in the bin!!!!!
Can see 500k subs not too far off! Congrats for all the work you do!
I just posted the same thing!
Depends on what she wears.
You're a champ for doing that job
Shovelling grain out of bins in summer in the heat and dust brings back memories of my teenage years. If you want to know what a real work out is. Thats it, exhausting and wet through with sweat.
Worried about the auger without a cage guard on though. That should be covered.
Thanks for sharing! Always interesting to see how farming is done in a different country! 🙂❤
Laura is going to rock the gray when that time comes in the far future. No one will understand why she calls it her corn hair. But we will. :)
hey grant you should put a kill switch on the positive side of the battery seems like something keeps draining it slowly overtime. kill switches are great removes any slow drains.
we use it here in canada alot. alot great deturant for theft just hide the switch somewhere not out in the open
Grandma Laura...The best..
Your highlights in your hair are quite stunning! 😂
the Johnson handle isn't a parking brake !!!! it has a tendency to back off and it delivers more pressure to the trailer brakes for emergency's . just pull the brakes yellow or red... the only time i have used it that way was to hook up a glad-hand hose to run a impact wrench.
Got lots to catch up on with what you all have been doing! My eldest from our channel didn't think you look old at all even with the dust. Julietta was teasing me about my gray hair now! Lol😅😅
I always hated sweeping corn bins.I was watching an episode of The Grumpy Farmer on RUclips a few weeks ago. He was using a battery powered leaf blower on the corn instead of sweeping.
Herd about your channel after you joined bunker branding, congrats! Glad I found this channel, I’m interested in one day being a first gen farmer and your videos are very interesting to watch
Welcome!
Keep on smiling!!! 😊
Amazing work
FYI from my own experience and learning over the years you should wear goggles when cleaning out bins the dust from the grain and the corn can cause serious vision problems as you get older!
and i'm out here wondering if the A/C ended up working xD
Keep up the good work gril
Might want to consider letting the truck idle for about 3-5 min before you shut it off. Gives the bearing in the turbo more time to cool down while still being lubricated. Also letting it warm up a bit is also helpful when first starting. Enjoy the day! 👍
You did an excellent job with the Good chop ad!
Awesome video, as always. Keep up the awesome work!!
Look like great! You guys are doing a lot! Thanks again for letting us in on your day!😊
You should never use the hand parking break when you are getting out of the cab because they don't always. The handle does not always stay down in the locked position. They can vibrate and cause the tractor to start rolling
Hey, put a MAIN DISCONNECT in line from the batteries..... Will save the batteries and eliminate discharge problems. Make sure the battery posts and clamps are clean and treated for corrosion. The life of the batteries will be extended
Next winter you have to put a shine on that grill surround.
Aluminum polishes up real nice.
Glad you guys were not in a confined space by yourself and you were wearing mask 👍 Safety first
