    Eyeshadow will always be my favorite. It's never going to be dead, it's a staple. Like blush, foundation bronzer, and powder. Everything just goes through phases. Give it 3 years and highlighter Will be back.

      Yes, I kind of miss the days when there were more singles, or duos available. I buy palettes, but often just for a couple shades. It’s very wasteful. I am thinking of looking into the Dior singles. Expensive, but then so much doesn’t go to waste.

      This is my thought, too. And then, younger people just starting to get into makeup, and would potentially be building their collection, are into a different, more minimalist aesthetic and less consumerist mindset. Eyeshadow palettes will be popular again, but the trend cycle needs a few years for eyeshadow palettes to come back.

  • @dreamrafters

    Maybe not the death of eye shadow in general, but the death of the eye shadow PALETTE 🤔 I think the consumer market is getting super fatigued by the same old palette color stories and especially ones we've been over-exposed to for the past 10-12 years. I'm admittedly still using shadow pans I pried out of my original Naked palette from 2012, but I can see a shift toward a more minimalist approach to consumerism with multi-use products or single shadows people intend to use as heavy duty work horses.

    • @handsoaphandsoap
      @handsoaphandsoap 3 месяца назад +29

      I also think people just own what palettes they need. If you’re a makeup consumer, odds are you have at least over 10 palettes in your collection and one person doesn’t really need much more than that so most people aren’t running out to buy the new palette launch when they already have something similar at home. A palette kind of has to adhere to the makeup consumer that is just getting into makeup in order to be a success right now I feel.

      Smaller palettes with better, flowing colours that will give you at least 4 different and good looks, if I can't get that out of a palette, I don't buy it. Looking at the pretty new palettes by Natasha Denona, the colours are variations of the same base, so even if you do 4 looks, they're all pretty much lighter/darker versions of the same look..... if she doesn't change her style, her brand will fizz out. IMO..

    • @Emma-se5wm
      @Emma-se5wm 3 месяца назад +6

      @@lynettefinnigan9540 I've never gotten a natasha denona 15 pan palette partially because there are always at least 2 shades that will look the same on my eye. I feel like even her more colorful palettes need better tone and depth variety. Not counting the older ones that have been discontinued, like tropic, those had a lot of variety. Even the dang retro palette needed 3 shades swapped out because there were just 3 pairs of shades that looked identical when I swatched it.

    • @sherryelle225
      @sherryelle225 3 месяца назад +6

      @@Emma-se5wmMakeup companies don’t know that we have figured out that similar colors that are in a palette together, are going to look the same. That’s why they separate them in the palette. They are going to have to do better if they want to charge exorbitant prices.

    This is exactly why, as someone who JUST started getting big into makeup and building my core collection, I shop indie and alt brands/old collections secondhand (unused, obvi). I want all to most of my makeup to be fun, in color, theme and packaging, and maybe that makes me a giant kid, but I feel very happy applying my Hipdot Playdoh palette with my spongebob kabuki brush 😭😭😭

    Since you're talking about blasts from the past, I tried something today I haven't done in years. I had ordered mesh rollers from Amazon and today they arrived. Let me tell you that my hair is so thin I had an issue with securing the roller. But my point is I set my hair while wet with Rusk volumizing leavr-in. My hair came out fantastic. Who was this girl with the luxurious hair? I usually spray a volumizing product after blow drying, but today, I didn't even need it. Consider it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I love full hair, and I'm thrilled I can get it so easily. Check it out. You love to see it! I think I need to buy end papers.

    I feel drugstore makeup has improved a lot over the past few years to be on par with or sometimes better quality than high-end Sephora brands, so the higher price tag doesn’t feel worth it anymore.
    I also think that the quality of the eyeshadow palettes from Urban Decay and Too Faced etc has not kept up with indie brands, or even some of the colourpop palettes. There’s just so many more options for eyeshadow now and people realize that the Urban Decay and Too Faced palettes aren’t that great

    I really think "eyeshadow is dead" just means that the super bold, the thick cut crease with paint, the blending five different mattes and then adding a hard chunk of foiled shadow and a highlighted browbone is dead. The type of eyeshadow where you have to wear a full glam to balance it out. That very much IS dead. but last night i went to a bar and eyeshadow itself was definitely represented. It's just that the base look has changed and the eyeshadow is proportionate.

    I love eyeshadow and I wear it every single day, but I dislike palettes intensely. They are clunky and cumbersome and I don't use 3/4 of the shades. I'm a massive fan of mono eyeshadow. I can buy exactly what I want, they're small enough to go in my makeup bag, and there is absolutely no waste because I will pan every single eyeshadow I own.

    I hate the games Sephora will play with the sale section. The Rose Inc. products that were sold out in April, still there. Danessa Myricks powder, marked down from $25 to $24. Ancient UD palettes that even TJMaxx has stopped selling, at prices that indicate Sephora already got rid of the stock and they’re just listing it at a deep discount to make you think you could get a deal if only you shopped the sale section a little more. Tired of being treated like a rube by Sephora. They’re a huge company and not our friends, but they could at least respect their customers instead of so obviously treating everyone with this much disdain.

Plus the point program is non existent in Italy, discounts suck and the majority of brands are excluded from any discount program (e.g. Charlotte tilbury, pat mc grath, Natasha denona, Fenty...). I am honestly starting to get fed up with them...

    Basically what happened is the beauty influencer exploded, and as a result the makeup market exploded. Keeping up meant buying all the new releases, evrything that went viral, and then in order to be "different" we had to start relying on indie brands to give us colour stories and formulas we hadn't seen before. The market for makeup of every type just got exponentially bigger over the past couple of decades and in all honesty, I think we're hitting a bit of a saturation point.
    Firstly, the cost of living has increased all over the world, forcing many consumers to be more judicious about what non-necessities they want to spend money on.
    Secondly, there is a growing movement, particularly among younger people as they deal with the consequences of climate change, for sustainability. People are becoming turned off by the constant push for mass consumerism - it's unsustainable on both a personal and planetary level.

    We may still love eyeshadow in the small beauty community. I am always buying indie eyeshadow and it makes me happy to play with. But I think the general makeup consumer who wear lightweight and professional makeup to work and even at home, is tired of eyeshadow because clean girl makeup is in and they may not have the time to do a purple smokey eye everyday. I was watching a declutter video and the woman said she used to be obsessed with eyeshadow but she is moving on to other interests and sees it as extra work.
