  • In this video I show to to cook sticky rice using a Zojirushi rice cooker.
    Traditional Lao way to cook sticky rice is to use steamer basket (huat) to steam the rice which had been soaked in water for 2 hours to overnight. Using this rice cooker method, the rice does not need to be soaked first.
    Note: This is only ideal for cooking small amounts of rice if you intend to eat the rice the Lao way (roll into balls with your hands to eat with other food). If you cook too much rice in this cooker, the rice will be wetter and stickier, harder to eat with your hands. If you intend to use it for making desserts like sticky rice mango, cooking larger amounts is ok.

    I have the Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy 10-cup. Been using it regularly for 15 years with no problems! It makes delicious sticky rice. I think just as good as the steamed kind! Thank you for the helpful video. Tonight I will make Vietnamese Sticky Rice with Chinese Sausage. yum.

    Hi... I made sticky rice with this machine. I found it to be too soggy if you add the suggested amount of water, so I reduced the amount of water to go just slightly above the rice and it came out Perfrct!! Not too sticky or soft..

      I had the same result. Next time I'll add a bit less water. Making sweet rice in the Zojirushi rice cooker is so much easier than using the steamer basket.

    Never Fail. No need to worry how much water is needed. I been cooking sticky rice more than I can count using rice cooker.
    Follow my simple step below. 100% your sticky rice will come out right, every time, all the time.
    I used the rice cooker steamer basket to cook sticky rice. The steamer basket should included with the rice cooker.
    1. Always soak the rice between 8 to 24 hours before cooking. The longer the rice are soaked, the softer it become after cooking (No exception).
    2. Find a WHITE clean cloth and place into the steamer basket to prevent the rice falling down the holes.
    Note: Best to use lient free 100% cotton material T-Shirt or 80% cotton men dress shirt.
    Cut cloth between 120% to 130% oversize of the steamer basket. Before use cloth, wash cloth with water and salt (do not use deterget).
    Cloth is Re-useable: wash, hang dry and save cloth after used.
    3. Add water to the 1st line level of the rice pot and place the steamer basket inside the rice pot.
    4. Wash the rice until water is clear. Place rice into the steamer basket evenly on top of the white cloth.
    5. Use any finger and make 5 to 8 holes into the rice to help the steam flow.
    6. Put rice pot into the rice cooker and close the lid.
    7. Select Steam. If your rice cooker doen't have steam option, use white rice or brown rice selection. After 15 to 25 minutes, open lid to check rice. Rice should 80% cooked at this point.
    8. To make sure rice cook evenly. Stire the rice, moving the bottom potion to the top to help cook evenly. Steam for another 10 to 20 minutes or until soft to your liking.
    Please press Thump Up if you like my concept.

    Your sticky rice turned out better than my mom's. She keeps insisting that's its better than cooking it in the traditional way. It's not. Her's is always too sticky or too mushy.

    • @CookingwithNana
      @CookingwithNana  2 года назад +3

      I agree, traditional way is better. This way is good for cooking small amount of rice. I usually don't cook more than 2 cups. You could also try using less water to make it less mushy. But for large party, I would definitely use the traditional way.

    • @CookingwithNana
      @CookingwithNana  22 дня назад

      @hollycannabis416 no, don't soak the rice beforehand. The main reason for using this way is so you don't have to spend time soaking. If the rice is soaked already it's better to steam with a basket.

    So what was the ratio of water to rice? Only saying which line to add water to isn’t helpful if we don’t have that exact rice cooker.

    • @CookingwithNana
      @CookingwithNana  12 дней назад

      This model that I showed has some special program that cooks glutinous (sweet/sticky) rice very well. That was why I chose to make a video with it. It has different settings for different kinds of rice. The older rice cooker I mentioned only has 1 cooking setting. On that older one, I found that you get pretty good sticky rice by using 2/3 cups of water for each cup of rice. Hope that helps.
