I have the Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy 10-cup. Been using it regularly for 15 years with no problems! It makes delicious sticky rice. I think just as good as the steamed kind! Thank you for the helpful video. Tonight I will make Vietnamese Sticky Rice with Chinese Sausage. yum.
Never Fail. No need to worry how much water is needed. I been cooking sticky rice more than I can count using rice cooker. Follow my simple step below. 100% your sticky rice will come out right, every time, all the time. I used the rice cooker steamer basket to cook sticky rice. The steamer basket should included with the rice cooker. 1. Always soak the rice between 8 to 24 hours before cooking. The longer the rice are soaked, the softer it become after cooking (No exception). 2. Find a WHITE clean cloth and place into the steamer basket to prevent the rice falling down the holes. Note: Best to use lient free 100% cotton material T-Shirt or 80% cotton men dress shirt. Cut cloth between 120% to 130% oversize of the steamer basket. Before use cloth, wash cloth with water and salt (do not use deterget). Cloth is Re-useable: wash, hang dry and save cloth after used. 3. Add water to the 1st line level of the rice pot and place the steamer basket inside the rice pot. 4. Wash the rice until water is clear. Place rice into the steamer basket evenly on top of the white cloth. 5. Use any finger and make 5 to 8 holes into the rice to help the steam flow. 6. Put rice pot into the rice cooker and close the lid. 7. Select Steam. If your rice cooker doen't have steam option, use white rice or brown rice selection. After 15 to 25 minutes, open lid to check rice. Rice should 80% cooked at this point. 8. To make sure rice cook evenly. Stire the rice, moving the bottom potion to the top to help cook evenly. Steam for another 10 to 20 minutes or until soft to your liking. Please press Thump Up if you like my concept.
We miss you Nana ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for all your videos. I love papaya salad very much and I even make my own Padeak sauce using your recipe ❤️ I also love your beef jerky 😊❤️ I hope you’re doing well and I wish you would make more videos or updated ones but thank you for still having your channel up 😊❤️❤️ Thank you Nana ❤️🙏🏻
I actually found a 50lb bag of sticky rice for 33$ I just couldn't leave it.. and I only have a home of 3.. lol. It will last a couple years.. honestly I wish I had gotten 2 bags at that price. It never goes bad.
I was on the fence about ordering the Zojirushi for various reasons, but after seeing how amazing 😃 that sticky rice came out I'm gonna go order it now. I can't wait to make and eat some. Thanks!
i'm going to try this on my costco tiger rice cooker... there may be a lerning curve to getting the water level just right but that's just part of the journey.. thanks Nana😀
Hi... I made sticky rice with this machine. I found it to be too soggy if you add the suggested amount of water, so I reduced the amount of water to go just slightly above the rice and it came out Perfrct!! Not too sticky or soft..
I had the same result. Next time I'll add a bit less water. Making sweet rice in the Zojirushi rice cooker is so much easier than using the steamer basket.
I'm wondering if you used the Sticky Rice setting ?? I have not made yet but I bought a 50lb bag of sticky rice for 33$. It was just too cheap not to get it so here I am finding out how to make it. Lol.. I have this Zojirushi cooker. 😊👌
I made 5 cups of Sticky rice is 5 cups of water. Rice came out nice n fluffy. I have the Zojirushi NS-TSC18X 10 cups and also toshiba 5.5 cups. Because i'm selling mango sticky rice and i need large amounts since I always make 50 packs/days
Hey Nana, not everyone have the same brand rice cooker, You Should Just tell the PROPORTION between water and sticky rice. You use 2cups of rice YOU should tell how many cup of WATER is needed.
@my987TVmy you are right. This video was for this brand of rice cooker. It has a special setting for the sweet (sticky) rice. I have done it before with a regular rice cooker using 2 cups of water for 3 cups of rinsed rice.
This model that I showed has some special program that cooks glutinous (sweet/sticky) rice very well. That was why I chose to make a video with it. It has different settings for different kinds of rice. The older rice cooker I mentioned only has 1 cooking setting. On that older one, I found that you get pretty good sticky rice by using 2/3 cups of water for each cup of rice. Hope that helps.
You can use other settings too but you have to try different water ratio. When I didn't have the Zojirushi, I used regular Tiger cooker and used less water to cook sticky rice.
@hollycannabis416 no, don't soak the rice beforehand. The main reason for using this way is so you don't have to spend time soaking. If the rice is soaked already it's better to steam with a basket.
Your sticky rice turned out better than my mom's. She keeps insisting that's its better than cooking it in the traditional way. It's not. Her's is always too sticky or too mushy.
I agree, traditional way is better. This way is good for cooking small amount of rice. I usually don't cook more than 2 cups. You could also try using less water to make it less mushy. But for large party, I would definitely use the traditional way.
In Lao "khao niow" translates to "sticky rice." But in the markets the rice will be labeled as sweet rice or glutinous rice. There are different varieties and brands, but you have to look for sweet or glutinous rice on the label.
You can experiment with a basic rice cooker using 2/3 cup of water for each cup of raw sticky rice. That's what I used to do when I didn't have this new one.
@chaixiong9075 if you have this type of rice cooker, you use the measuring cup that comes with it. Then fill the water to the 3 cup line in the rice cooker.

I WISH I had an Asian friend... out here in the middle of nowhere Ohio.. i cant wait to try this.Thank you for sharing this..
Thank you Nana, i just purchsed this rice cooker for the kaow niew function specifically :)

Thanks for taking the time to write all that instruction. The main advantage of the method in my video is you don't have to soak the raw rice.
Thank you for this 😊
@CookingwithNana I have a Zojirushi rice cooker. Looks alot like this one.. nut no steeameer setting. Thank yu both for sharing your methods ❤❤😊

Hi Nana...good to see you again
Wow, what a treat, so glad to see you back Nana
I love sticky rice. I used to eat it almost everyday but I cut back because it’s now about $17 for a 5 pound bag. My Thai family grows it in Thailand
My husband's side of the family in Mukdahan Thailand grows sticky rice too.
I actually found a 50lb bag of sticky rice for 33$ I just couldn't leave it.. and I only have a home of 3.. lol. It will last a couple years.. honestly I wish I had gotten 2 bags at that price. It never goes bad.

@my987TVmy you are right. This video was for this brand of rice cooker. It has a special setting for the sweet (sticky) rice. I have done it before with a regular rice cooker using 2 cups of water for 3 cups of rinsed rice.
Welcome back Nana 🤗🤗 hope to see more great recipes from you🙏🙏
So what was the ratio of water to rice? Only saying which line to add water to isn’t helpful if we don’t have that exact rice cooker.
This model that I showed has some special program that cooks glutinous (sweet/sticky) rice very well. That was why I chose to make a video with it. It has different settings for different kinds of rice. The older rice cooker I mentioned only has 1 cooking setting. Thank you Nana! great to see your videos again😊you inspire me to cook! my son❤️ sticky rice. I'm going to try this method
whats' that fuzzy brown stuff!? I used to eat as a kid!
Thank you Nana for this simple method of cooking sticky rice. Nana can you cook sweet glutinous rice with peanuts. Not mango sticky rice.
I have cooked red beans with sticky (sweet glutinous) rice for dessert, but not with peanuts.
Hi nana I have slow cooker can I use it instead?
I have tried with other brand of rice cooker, but have not tried slow cooker. I don't know if that will work.
Thanks for showing how to do this--i actually was wondering, i have a cuckoo and have never used it for sticky. :)
My zojirushi doesn’t have a sweet button. What other timing options can I use? Please help. Tia
You can use other settings too but you have to try different water ratio. When I didn't have the Zojirushi, I used regular Tiger cooker and used less water to cook sticky rice.
Love ur videos
Uh oh I doubled the recipe and it was very loose lol. Yours looked harder than mine. Maybe I wasn't supposed to soak it beforehand?
@hollycannabis416 no, don't soak the rice beforehand. The main reason for using this way is so you don't have to spend time soaking. If the rice is soaked already it's better to steam with a basket.

God bless you
Nana, you're sweet as that rice! 😊
Is there a certain kind of 🍚 rice you need to get to make sticky rice??
In Lao "khao niow" translates to "sticky rice." But in the markets the rice will be labeled as sweet rice or glutinous rice. There are different varieties and brands, but you have to look for sweet or glutinous rice on the label.
Kop Jai der Nana!
Then what if the rice cooker has no setting for sticky rice?
You can experiment with a basic rice cooker using 2/3 cup of water for each cup of raw sticky rice. That's what I used to do when I didn't have this new one.
Thanks nana
How many cups of water for 3 cups of sticky rice
@chaixiong9075 if you have this type of rice cooker, you use the measuring cup that comes with it. Then fill the water to the 3 cup line in the rice cooker.
@chaixiong9075 if you are using a simple rice cooker, you can use 2 cups of water for 3 cups of raw glutinous rice.
