- Changing it up with a car battery replacement video today. Surprisingly there were only a few videos on replacing the battery in a 2020 Explorer. While the process is a little more complicated than some, it is manageable with some patience and determination. Time stamps located below.
Tools needed:
10mm socket
8mm (or 5/16) socket
Extension socket is helpful for back bolt
Instructions (with time stamps):
Accessing battery (0:23)
Disconnecting terminals (1:32)
Removal of connection box on top of battery (3:20)
Loosening base bolt on back side (4:11)
Old vs New comparison and battery type (5:37)
Installing new battery (6:42)
Reconnecting (8:37)
I just pulled the battery what a nightmare. Who at Ford thought this was a good idea? Thanks for the video
Hey brother, the top shroud pulls straight out once you take those plastic retainers out. Also, you can completely remove the rear battery retainer. It is easy to put back on. This will make this job WAY EASIER. Also, my H6 AGM battery had a second vent hole that I plugged with JB plastic weld since I couldn't get a vent plug. It was an Everstart. The second hole is on the positive side.
Thanks for replying, that was one of my questions.
I love the Explorer, I’m on my 3rd one. But it is beyond ridiculous that engineers put the battery here. When I saw it on my latest, I was less than thrilled. Great video..
Thank you so much!
why will the panel covering it not come off? it’s stuck in the glass
nice job, thanks
Sooo…I’m just a girl. But I inadvertently found out while changing out the battery that the top panel DOES come off. And it slides back in under the windshield. Idk if it’s supposed to lol but it made it so much easier to work on and I don’t see a difference after placing it back on. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ I’m not a scholar idk
You should always pull the negative cable first and replace it last never connect the negative then the positive.
Somebody warned me that if you ever have to disconnect battery on the Ford Explorer, you have to take it to a dealer to perform some sort of software reset
Is that true?
In my experience, I did not have to take it to the dealer. Everything was back to normal after the battery replacement. We also noticed that none of the seat, radio, clock, etc settings were erased during the swap. There must be some sort of residual power somewhere in the car or maybe an additional backup battery to save settings.
BSM reset. Easy to do. Videos online about it
BSM Reset. Vehicle on accessory only. Headlights on. Hit the high beam 5 times then step on the brake 3 times. Watch for the battery light on dash to flash. This resets the system. Auto stop/start with work again.
That was super easy. Thanks for the instructions.
@markpastor7915 is there a way to prevent the auto start stop from working again?
AGM battery?
Yes
Bad location!!!!
Hey ford, you botched it
Вони з глузду зʼїхали , навіщо так було все ускладнювати 😅
That's so dumb! I may trade mine back in just for this reason....
The fact that these vehicles don't have transmission dip sticks and fluid had to be added from underneath is a reason to trade for something else. Engineers are such a-holes sometimes. They should be required to work on vehicles with their stupid ideas to see how aggravating and impractical they are
There is a dipstick located on the trans there are videos on its location and use
its on the side of the transmission and completely foolish. ford botched it@@TheBlackCobra81
