One thing a lot of drummers dont get right when covering neils 70s and 80s stuff is the constant ghost notes on the snare he so often did back then. You nailed it.
searching for something unrelated, i see this video in the sidebar, and my first thought was "yeah, right... good luck with that, friend." and then ...wow. just amazing. you're really technically accomplished, have a great feel of dynamic, and your clock is pristine. thanks for the fun! liked/subscribed.
I've played drums for nearly 40 years (ever since I was 9 years old)... and I rarely find a drummer who can play with such effortless ease, relaxed and so smooth. I always say there are 3 things I look for in good drummers 1) do they use wrists 2) are they working too hard or do they look relaxed and 3) does it all flow smoothly from one transition to the next, from one fill-in to the next. Man you surpass all three. Love watching you play!
Probably my favorite RUclips drummer, nailed it again there Mike. Everything is perfect in your videos; sound, videography, mix, and your drumming is inspiring. I can easily use your videos to help me learn songs, because your ability, professionalism, and production value are so good, you have helped me break down many fills, and parts to songs. Thanks for your videos Mike!
Ok. First, you are clearly a masterful sound engineer. Your kit sounds amazing. Second, your playing is brilliant. Your economy of motion around the kit is amazing. You play so relaxed - the way you hold your sticks reminds me of Gavin Harrison. Thanks for your great videos!
Mike, from one drummer to another, my friend, you're a monster...absolutely fantastic. Superb control, timing, great nuance and musicality. It's a crime some of your videos don't have more views. Really, very well done, good sir. I look forward to more performances from you. --Amazing job on Toto's Africa as well. Cheers.
Lately I’ve been attempting to recreate/interpret even the most straightforward of fills Neil does and I’m super impressed how well this interpretation is. It had closely mimicked the nuances and feel and control, but also the technicality and timing. It was nothing short of an excellent reproduction and one that gets me eager to practice more. Well played!
"And immediately after the number, the drummer looked at me and reached for his face and amazingly TORE OFF HIS FACE. . .NEIL! I exclaimed, "I always wanted to watch you drum to this! Nobody drums like you!" ?Did you arrange your drum set to Neil's arrangement?
Thanks! I did this setup only for this particular video series. I actually didn’t like it very much. Lol! Much happier with my current config. Way more ergonomic for me
I wonder what goes through this man’s mind when he’s about to play over a 9 minute complex masterpiece with rhythmical changes probably in the teens and tempo /dynamic swings having in my opinion so much room for error well with my approach and mikes execution the difference is mike a professional and I’m not but old enough to know practice does maybe make perfect and again makes it look semi easy heavy respect mike !
I honestly can't tell the difference between you and Neil. Great job
I can. He doesn't switch to traditional grip at 2:42. ;-)
@@eggo63 Good catch!
I closed my eyes, listened and swore that the Professor had come back to life... excellent!
For real bro, Mike's drumming is the best I've ever heard covering Neil.

Perfection!!! The fills, the sound, the set, pfff! INSPIRATION 👌👏
Excellent, spot on! Curious why you changed your set-up from this to your current kit configuration ?
Thanks! I did this setup only for this particular video series. I actually didn’t like it very much. Lol! Much happier with my current config. Way more ergonomic for me

All of your videos seem flawlessly, played. Are you formally trained or self taught?
Thanks! A bit of both!

Thank you! I mostly focus on the melodies, and the drums just kind of happen once I have the form in my head.
Amazing
Besides Joel Stevenett you are the best twin brother of Neil.
