Thank you so much for this information. I'll have to seek out & purchase that ONA show on DVD. This is one of my faves among many and love his guitar playing skills, totally incredible! 👂Eargasm🎶🎸💜🎶
as far as i’m concerned : there’s really only one version of ‘Joy In Repetition’ and that is THIS PERFORMANCE! the melodic guitar solos, thumping bass by larry g, pounding drums by John Blackwell ! musical bliss! the growing and expanding sound of his guitar, extending dimension after mountain, just remarkable stuff.
Ive never heard a bum note bt these aftershow parties where prince's way of relaxing he gave till the end and is stil giving us love i can feel it everyday
George and Prince would agree that Sly is the funkiest guy ever on this planet. But Prince managed to bring funk to a new level. Don't forget the roots of funk - James Brown!
I WAS THERE STANDING BEHIND THE KEYBOARD PLAYER STUCK & SHOCKED & IN AWE OF NOT ONLY PRINCE BUT THE BAND AS WELL. I PRAYED THAT SOMEONE WOULD RELEASE THIS VIDEO SO THAT THE WORLD COULD BEAR WITNESS TO THIS MOMENT🎼
U were a very lucky person to basque in the npg live experience i still watch n feel lifted spiritually not with drugs just pure emotion, got caught off postman one day freaking n playing air guitar in the garden to this live track .peace n love
I was at this legendary performance of this recording! And the released version is an edited version of this one. I could hear me screaming at the start of him playing because I recognize right away what song it was and I started screaming '! Because it going to be my first time ever to hear him play this song live and it was the best version too I died that night! So I can attest to be one of the lucky ones in NYC that early morning!
Prince Can translate whatever he is feeling at the moment with his fingers , his soul and a guitar... and always is a win to win to musical history . absolute Master musician . Thank you C.L
I play this over and over nothing takes me away like this version Prince and that guitar they become as one he was just unstoppable, there will never be another like you Ever, simply THE BEST. Rest In Heavenly Peace Beautiful One
I was there for the PFunk Show. After George, my friend Charles says whatever you do, no matter what they say, don't leave. What an incredible experience. I ended up being allowed in the VIP section because I was engineering for George at a nearby studio. Alicia Keys poppin bottles to my left and Chris Rock sitting in front of me. Thank you Prince for all the years of great music. A true inspiration.
I like that Prince did not forget about the greats that came before, like Larry gram and masico Parker. He reach back and brought them into his time, and I appreciated he did that. You are miss.
Lol I can hear myself in the first seconds ... P: "How long u been waiting?" Me: "A LONG TIME!!!" P:"well hope I can make it up 2 u" Me: "OHH YEAHHH!!!!"
,"God said let there be light and the darkness comprehended not the light"..... Prince was some of that light God was talking about n all I can say is thank u God for Prince......✝️💜🌈💯♐♀️🔥🎸Joy
This live recording is legendary in the Prince universe and includes what is arguably Princes greatest live guitar solo, this video of that performance is the only one that I am aware of, if anyone else is aware of another please let me know in the comments.
Though I prefer this version over the One Night Alone: It Ain't Over version. I went back and listened to the CD version and I could hear him turning up the knobs on his axe all the way up right around the 10:15 mark when he breaks the connection and bends the note. I brought this up because in the CD version, the mix has got guitar levels way up which stops you from listening to the sheer force of nature, i.e. Mr. Larry Graham. This guy invented slap bass. And if you are a true funketeer, you know that Graham was in rare form that night. As always, Prince can't stop being Prince and has to be at front. This guy could kill to be seen. Alan Leeds said the same thing about him being hungry for limelight during an interview on his life as a tour manager. Alan also said that D'Angelo is a clear opposite of Prince and probably the most creative guy after Prince that he had met and definitely the nicest artist that he has ever known and Alan knows everyone. D'Angelo just doesn't get the fame aspect of the game but is talented on a whole another level, almost equivalent to Prince. Jesse Johnson taught him how to shred a guitar too. Anyway, always this version over the CD version.
The polished version of this later was released on the audio- CD "One Nite Alone...The Aftershow: It Ain´t Over"

His Royal Badness!
I play this one in my car a lot turned up it sounds really good with a 1000 watts or more equalized in 2021still rocking it hard
Prince, Graham, Blackwell : Super Band !!
Also Renato and Maceo with Candy and Boyer. That was by far the most talented lineup of musicians ever to perform together.
I like that Prince did not forget about the greats that came before, like Larry gram and masico Parker. He reach back and brought them into his time, and I appreciated he did that. You are miss.

What I want to know is who kept track of the different guitar setups at each venue??? Seems like you heard that as well. The ears know!!!
@@leonbmanabouttown3128 Don't get what you're saying. Are you talking about the songs on the CD being performances from different venues?
WHY DID MACEO AND CANDY TAKE SO LONG TO COME OUT.
Because they were meant for the end of the song and were only going play songs after joy
live 4 l0(+>ve
