I love how nurturing this is. You're such a chill, kind, and intelligent instructor Babs. I wish you'd been one of my teachers when I was studying illustration. We are super lucky to have you on the channel!
I have been discouraged from pursuing drawing for years, and I constantly have to find the motivation to keep up at something I truly love. Finding Critical Role has been a huge inspiration (and many times have saved me from the darkest of days), and now having Pub Draw to watch and learn along with is so encouraging. Eternally grateful.
Babs: "some people had tight, small ones, but i think the point of this is to loosen you up?" Marisha: a single, unbroken second of eye contact at 11:19, a very deliberate silence
The eye part was so helpful, I seriously struggled with those last time. Still not 100% confident with eyebrows, but when you said the side eye pupil will usually connect to the eyelash, it helped me make sense of my drawing tremendously. Thank you!

But I think once the whole face is together, the lips don't necessarily look feminine. 24:41 Mouth is always wider than the lips. 26:35 Braids are just a bunch hearts wearing necklaces falling into boobs and a chunky bottom. 41:46 The best explanation of eyes ever. 54:58 Fast Terry 1:06:27 Laugh lines = age. (IMO you can add them with highlight and contour more successfully rather than adding them with the outline.) 1:08:17 Eyes don't grow, so kids always have big eyes. This is absolutely wonderful! I’ve thought about isolating features and drawing them repetitively before, but only as a separate practice on its own, never in the midst of a drawing! Super helpful! I’ve also been drawing for a long while and I STILL struggle with noses, so I appreciate the guidance with that here. Loooove this show! Super happy it exists 💚
I've never felt so proud or brave when I'm drawing! never ever been able to draw lips or noses and my faces always looked super gross but I've actually produced something because of pub draw! thanks!
I think they don't want it numbered that way. Because these are legit art tutorials, and sometimes someone just wants to learn how to draw some eyes without thinking they need to watch fourteen other videos before they can draw the eyes.
I know a little about how to draw and I gotta tell all y'all aspiring artists, this is one of the best most easy going tutorial on how to draw I have ever seen. This is being a great reminder to me how to draw, I wanted to do a big oil style painting of the dinner episode from Campaign 1 where Scanlan gets shot by Vex as she's shooting the chicken legs. Tried doing it and I realized how out of practice I was and kinda gave up. Now Im gonna practice and try again.
Another option for a blue sketching pencil would be the col erase pencils. Random but I grabbed an 'iced' (just cold) tea before I started watching this and I just remembered I had it it was cold when I got it now it's just luke warm...
38:20 That is a Staedtler eraser, and Staedtler makes some of the very best erasers/pens/pencils. they are a German company that makes really top-notch art supplies.
OMG! Thank you SO MUCH for this information! I had NO IDEA my old-ish Intuos had extra nibs in the back! Or even that the back had a panel that comes OFF! Seriously, if it's not something you already know, this is HUGELY helpful information!
songdancer13 Glad I could help! I didn’t even know extra pen nibs were a THING until I saw a tumblr post about them! I’d taken the back panel off while fidgeting with the tablet before but I had no idea the things in the back were extra nibs lol. At that point I hadn’t even drawn enough where the idea of the pen nib wearing down hadn’t even occurred to me!
Ah hah! That partially explains why I didn't know...went to re-look at the owners manual, and the pages were stuck together, so I had one of the 3 pages of English availalbe easily to read when I first looked at it. The other two were stuck together, so it LOOKED like you got that one page of instructions to set it up, and that was all, as when I turned the page it moved to the next language. Is what I get for flipping through fast, excited to finally have a new (at the time) and working tablet again after my Graphire had finally died.
Love the show! Marisha unrelated to drawing (awesome to see your progress) where did you get your catalope shirt! I couldn't find it anywhere online?! Please share. I need it in my life. Thanks and keep rocking the drawing.
1:00:27 No pun intended? Or is my love for Undertale and my lack of sleep causing me to hallucinate? *something moves in corner of eye* *screams loudly and dies even louder*
I feel like Pub Draw is a more modern version of Bob Ross's show XDDD And I mean it in a good way because this is so relaxing and chill, like so therapeutic.
came to the comments for anyone talking about babs' eye game. guess i'm the only one. oh well, time to watch another hour of my new favourite badass. :D
Marisha, I have been a casual artist for years...I can draw well, but I haven't had the energy to muster to draw...BUT... You are already vastly better than most artists. Myself included. 😊😗🤘 laters.
My photo blue pencil just had a bath in the washing machine and had to go in a plastic baggie with dirty stuff and be crushed to death... Like, last night. That's kinda depressing, I wanted to sketch with it xD
I think theyre using photoshop. Thats what I use but you pay for it monthly. If youre looking for an inexpensive starter wacom tablet, they have a small intuos for just under $100 and they come with downloadable software. Totally worth the money. Hope this helped!

Follow this basic guideline for faces and make some variations according to each character, you can't go wrong: Women: bigger eyes, smaller nose, wider mouth, softer jawline Men: smaller eyes, larger nose, narrower mouth, stronger jawline
"...You can pick any type of horn out for your tiefling..." Unless you're an offical D&D artist, then it seems like the world would fucking come to an end if you drew a tiefling with anything but horns that are come out of their brows. Also, please don't recommend that people use Pinterest. That site is nothing but a cesspool of idiots and assholes reposting image after image after image and *NEVER FUCKING ONCE* giving a single person credit or linking back to the original site that the image came from!
That's okay, don't let it discourage you. Just use a lighter (harder) pencil like 2H, and go at it light and slow and approach your intended line with long, relaxed strokes, instead of wanting to nail it instantly. To improve precision I really can recommend the lessons on drawabox.com
Hey Chloe, was just scrolling through and saw your comment. If you want to work on pencil and line control, try Lesson 1 on drawabox.com. Its a great free website for beginners. It takes you through some of the basic warm ups that Babs mentions, like drawing lines and circle, but gives in depth advice on how to improve. The best way to get there is lots of practice, your hand will develop the muscle memory over time.

Pub Draw is just so chill to listen to. ^-^ I feel like I’m learning so much too, even though I studied design for years. XD
No reason for this not to be called "Pub Scrawl". Missed a trick there!
Why not Critical Scrawl?
@@Ranga3595 Probably because "Pub Crawl" itself is an actual slang term. Critical Scrawl also sounds really good, though!
This is so bad it killed me and yet so good I am miraculously alive again!
Thank you so much for this series! I’ve always wanted to get into drawing and this is inspiring to actually go for it.

Fun fact if you have an old old Intuos like I have that doesn’t even have a pen stand: the extra pen nibs are in the back of the tablet!
