    Excellent video! Very clearly explained.
I need to do this with my horse now...before she gets moved to a much larger pasture!.😊

Christina Juppe.- It works with most horses, a lot of the time, but it is not the proper way of doing it. However, if you are a real beginner, who couldn't possibly hope to train your horse to come to you, then you could try the same procedure but... --when you approach the horse, offer him a carrot or a sweet, in a way that he allows your body to get pretty close to his chest--.... and, continue to place the rope around his neck as shown in the video. If he runs away, just let him do so very peacefully, and try again and again, until he finally lets you grab the tip of the rope with your other hand. Then, he may still try to escape, but he will freeze as he feels that the rope is around his neck and you are holding it with both hands.

    thank you for this!
One problem I don't have is catching my horses. As every horse, when I first get them (young), when I have approached them
I always had something yummy for them. (this lasts for a short time) But my presence didn't mean "work" for them, it meant "She has something yummy for me". Now when they are loose in an area, and I want to halter them, I just call them. They come running. You have to occasionally offer a treat to continue a reinforcement of their positive attitude, but a little carrot isn't going to hurt anybody.

When I had horses I was frequently out in the pasture. I would bring brushes and mane combs and sometimes just too bring treats. I would brush/ pet / scratch all without halters. They never knew what i had in mind but it always kept them interested. So each time I came out to the pasture they would all come in running wanting to know what was next. No problems catching either. I just had to pick the one I wanted. Still, hafta go through equine greetings before asking to put halter on though. But they were always eager. New horse? No problem. The behavior of the other horses towards me helped to shape their behavior and they soon also were hooked on human. Lol

Is this the same guy who did the crazy snow ride video - the area looks similar, minus the snow.

I ride my instructor's horse and he loves to hang out on the opposite side of the pasture, all I have to do is grab his attention/curiosity and he comes to me. I'd walk towards him but once his ear or head looks my way I'd pause and once he looks away I'd walk towards him again until he looks towards me again, and repeat. After a few minutes he comes to me.
Got the idea from Warwickschiller's videos on his buddy sour horses on how to grab their attention.

what if they buddy up? my when my boy decides to run the other always follows (theres only the two of them) and it is impossible to separate the two of them and corner them both.

So everytime your horse turns his ass to you you should be sending him away and making him work then everytime your horse looks at you or turns his head towards you then you release the pressure but you don't ever let your horse turn his butt to you

Jenna LaVoie im just surprised he even knows what a round pen is even if he clearly doesn’t know what they are for because that’s where you teach them to catch and the respect they need to never turn there ass to you lol

Or instead of chasing your horse around a pasture u could use the grain method or u could work with him by bringing the halter with you every time you see him but don’t put it on just pet him and walk away. Make sure to only walk away when he or she stops and lets u pet him. This will show him that not every time u have the halter, your not gonna work him.

I know why your horse doesn't want to be caught you can't put on a halter on properly and don't chase your horse into a corner that makes them feel trapped and they won't trust you

or when your horse turns an ear or in this case his head towards you then back away and he will follow you!

Not always. A lot of horses do that because they’re curious as to what you’re doing but they won’t always follow

What do you do if your horse is boarded at a 50 acre pasture with 30 other horses? What can I do, also it doesn't help that my horse is super fast and she can turn around really quickly, I wish I could have it as easy as you. :|

Juni&Sasha Sso Try to move your horse to a smaller area, preferably isolated from the others. Seriously, look for a different stable. Its really difficult to get your horse to pay attention to you if there are that many other horses distracting him and you get too frustrated to keep your cool and give up.
If moving your horse to a smaller area is not an option, then LOTS of time and patience is what it will take. Time. Patience. Stubbornness.
Always take treats. Bribe him!! He needs to WANT it bad enuf to override his herd and give you his attention even if its just a treat.
Don't always try to catch and halter and bring them up for schooling. They will learn halter=work. Just work on hanging out with them, walking with them, scratching on them, treats treats treats... Use their own curiosity to bond so they WANT to come to you, they want to hang out with you, follow you.
Watch "join up" videos and understand what is going thru his head.
It really will happen if you are very patient, consistent every day, don't give up. Also use their name A LOT and I have a special whistle just for my horse and he knows its me calling just him. He also knows my car. Its our special thing and he knows it. But that takes TIME and consistency.
If your horse is "acting dumb", its either because he's playing you or because you don't have a good bond. They are smart. They know. But you have to bond with him and you have to make up your mind that it might take all summer. You might not ride as much as you want to because you have to bond on the ground first.
Riding a horse means nothing if he's not your friend.

MissChievousRN Thank you for the info :) my horse is at home now (with her buddy) and we have about 2 acres of land for them. I'm gonna work with her all summer on this, because there is too much work in school right now. She is still super hard to catch, but me and her have been best buds for 2 years now. She's fine if she's having a good day, and let's me pet her and stuff, but if she's having a bad one, she walks away and I follow her until she understands I'm not out to catch her. I don't ride her all the time, I brush her and let her graze outside her pasture, and bond with her, but she still needs a lot of work. I don't want her just to come to me for treats, that's not how real horsemanship works, but i understand that you want me to let her know that being caught is not all that bad. She is a horse that doesn't like to be messed with, but she's not mean, just... Cautious I would say. Anyways, thanks again for sharing your thoughts, I will try it 😄🐴

Juni&Sasha Sso sounds like you've got this ;) I'm so glad you were able to keep her right in your "backyard"- I bet you both are WAY happier. 50 acres and 30 horses is just way too much craziness!!

Steering the horse to the corner can cause him to feel trapped. Use body language as horses do with one another and he will come to you.

Ok well being that you made a video about how to catch a horse you must think you are doing it right so im not going to try and make you look bad I’ll just say take your horse into the round pen and ask him to catch if he lets you without fussing ok good but if he fusses at all run him until he is sweating then ask again if he moves a foot or even leans away run him again until he doesn’t move then repeat the next day until you can walk in and catch him without him moving then ask in the big pen if he moves chase him into the round pen and run him until he sweats (he will try to stop right away but don’t let him) then when he hooks onto you open the gate and catch him in the big pen (don’t touch him in the round pen just get him hooked onto you) and repeat the next day until he catches anywhere without moving. And please lay it to him with the halter ( whip is better ) when he turns his ass to you because that is the biggest sign of disrespect there is and if you’re horse doesn’t respect you you can get kicked or worse
