I love when you use big words, makes me feel like I'm watching something smart!
Does it make you huge???
Black stoneflies in winter are my go to.
I do not find very many of these kind of videos helpful but this video actually taught me a lot than most do so keep it up and thank you
Your last sentence threw me.. I thought for Sure it was because salmon loved them. But I’m mostly after largemouth in Texas..so there’s that. Appreciate all you do Huge! Really fascinating, and many times entertaining. Thanks! 👍👌🎣
The little black Stone fly is the first big bug hatch here in CT; not really big, but a # 16 or #18 is bigger than a # 22 or 24. It usually starts here in CT around the end of Feb or March, depending on how cold it's been. My guess is this year will be all the high flooding, it's going to be late, if at all. It a great time to fish too.
Best afternoon of fishing was during a salmon fly hatch on a river in SW Montana. Between 1pm and 4 pm I recorded over 80 hits at my flies and netted over 20 trout. One hit consisted of a fish taking my fly and running and snapping my 6 lb test tippet and never seeing the fish. Typical salmon flies averaged about 3 inches, landing and crawling all over me. Awesome afternoon.
Well done sir. Well done. Subscribed for no BS explanations 🤙🏼
Been very fortunate to have done 2 trips down the xxx Gorge during the Salmonfly hatch. :) The Guy's Trip this year we're heading to ID to hopefully catch it. ;)
Nice work HUGE !!
Always enjoy your humor.
DEF bonus w the valuable BrainFood
tyvm!
Sooooooo looking forward to that Black Canyon trip!
I'm starting to really enjoy this channel! lol
Nicely done 👍
Southern Oregon and part time central Oregon resident here, and I can attest to this being the best hatch to chase. Good stuff
The best crowd attractor on a certain river 😂.
@@fredthegamerschrarder7716crowds are good for our local economies. And it doesn’t bother me much I fish weekdays have a raft and private access.
@@BrianPeters110 nice what kind of raft u got? I’m thinking about getting one, but idk if I should get raft or a drift boat. I heard good thing about Sotar or nrs. Crowds just give me the ick but I’m part of the crowds so hypocritical lol. Gotta start hiking into areas and asking for permission to fish the private ranches.
@@fredthegamerschrarder7716I went with NRS…got a Slipstream 120. I’m really happy with it so far although I only have a couple trips on it. For most of my time I’ve spent floating it was in a drift boat and I’d have to say the raft is far more versatile. But otherwise, most of my fishing career has been on foot. And I’ve often noticed that a very small percentage of fishermen are willing to work too hard to get to the river. Pump yourself up and commit to putting in the miles…you’ll find it’s pretty easy to get away from most people. Tight lines, my friend.
Huge fan here. Nice video!!
There is a difference between a nymph and a larvae. Mayflies and Stoneflies go through a nymphal stage completing their maturation in their nymphal shuck and shortly after leaving the shuck. Caddis larvae metamorphose in their case and emerge as adults.
Love being called a psychopath for winter fishing in Montana 😊
I was talking about people who live where it actually gets cold though.
It crossed to above 0°F here (Hamilton) for the first time in 5 days today. Cold enough?
Dude these bug videos are fn great.
Thank you.
I am a HUGE fan. Thanks.
Stumbled into a stone fly nymph bite in a smallmouth stretch of a river, to memory it was late spring/early summer. Found some shucks along the way and put a clinic on the 8-12” smallmouth 😂
Best bug. Awesome video Ben.
This was awesome.
Nice. Thanks for the education
Hey Ben (very smart fly fisherman) how do you feel about eating the first adult stonefly you find of the year?
No doubt the most fun hatch especially early when the fish are dumb and just casually gulping them down . Yum
love fishing stone nymphs for tetras here in africa
Waking a stonefly across a drift on the Morice River in the hope a steelhead will strike...stay huge
You can fish stoned nymphs everyday!!! Mindblown
Great, sorry, meant HUGE video❤
Dagger falls!
Have you float and fished the MF?
I want my Caddis
still upset about the whole "you failed me as my mentor and i skunked" deal... . . .. ... ..... ..
Clean, cold water? That's why we don't see any stoneflies in Louisiana.
There might be some in the Kisatchee. I’ve seen mayflies in the marsh before.
@@HugeFlyFisherman I didn't know you knew about the Kisatchee and you are correct about that. You are right about the mayflies. Not that they are all over, but I am seeing more mayflies in more places than 20-30 years ago. I don't know the species, but they are big.
From southeast idaho i love salmon flies but it has to be one of the most overrated hatches in my opinion. Fish gorge themselves on them early and then it gets hard to get them to take the rest of the salmonfly season.
Deer flies will run into your head too
