Russia's Alan Khugaev defeats Egypt's Karam Mohamed Gaber Ebrahim to win gold in the men's greco-roman wrestling 84kg class event at the London 2012 Olympic Games (6 August).
The 1900 Games were the only ones where wrestling was not present in any shape or form. As from the 1908 Olympic Games in London, Greco-Roman wrestling has always been included on the programme. Since the 1920 Antwerp Games, there have been both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling competitions.

Khugaev was as lucky as hell not to get penalised for passivity when he closed in his arms and used his legs to defend when on the ground. Also the wrong appeal by Gabers corner. The better wrestler lost! Passivity not being penalised is a problem that is kiling the sport.

_(even the announcer announces wrong: He says_ *"Kugaev"* _instead of_ *"Hugaev"*_)_
Incidentally, the root of his surname *'Hug'*(/hʊg/, not /hʌɡ/) in Ossetian means
*'pig / swine / boar'*.
And English has almost similar word - *'Hog'* _(in ancient times the word was borrowed from the_ *Scythian-Sarmatian-Alans* - _the ancestors of the Ossetians)._

Smart wrestling isn't bad wrestling. As far as wrestling as a martial art, just cause you're more aggressive doesn't mean you're any more likely to have the upper hand in a fight. In my believe they should do par terre and just play it out till someone scores, but then again, wrestling's not even olympic anymore.

It was downgraded for while...as if it were in a "red list" for 2020 Olympics. So it had to "bid" for one place for those OG. They made some chages in the structure of the judging for instance, and added new categories for women's wrestling in order to "gain" that spot. Fortunately it was chose and it will remain in the program :)
