Ya know, I decided to go through old Death Battles because I wanted to compare how fights were animated, and I gotta say... I am REALLY impressed by how well the Mortal Kombat sprites were used in this one. It felt very natural and smooth.

Thor's height ain't all that consistent in the comics. Sometimes he looks slightly a bit above average and other times he looks like a giant standing next to other characters.

abhinav hajra I agree but if they are to fight based on Death Battle rules then it's unfair, Thanos gets the infinity gauntlet. They fight with their respective advantages and that's why a Thanos v anyone fight wouldn't work.

***** That is not necessarily true. A fatality is just killing someone. The only reason you cannot do a fatality when someone is not weakened, is because it would be extremely overpowered if you could just do a fatality in the middle of a Mortal Kombat match.
It's an animation. I noticed as well, and it bothered me too, but give them a break. They're developing video games and videos, so they're possibly a little short-staffed.
+Salvador Mancha Raiden is listed as that tall, but is the same height as everyone in MK games. Maybe he shrinks down in the mortal realm? Thor should be big, he is 640 lbs. of muscle.

They are both immune to the effects of lightening, however Thor only has one body Raiden can re-take human form if his body is destroyed and has unlimited endurance. I think because of the fact that Raiden is immortal (in the sense that he can reincarnate) they decided the winner to be the first one to die (because even though he can come back to life, he can still die).

@Scorpion Honestly, when you hear Thor, you think about the god of the mythologies. You should really know about Marvel to know him. On the other hand, Raiden is part of the original roster from one of the most iconic fighting videogame. When you hear Marvel, you think on Iron Man, Spider-Man, Captain America, Hulk, Wolverine or Cyclops basically. When I was a child, I saw Thor in Marvel vs Capcom and I didn't know who was him. Nowadays Thor is more popular but thanks to the movies, not for the comics.

One problem though: Mjolnir wasn't made FROM a neutron star, it was forged from Uru metal using the heat of a dying star. Though it is still ridiculously heavy through its manipulation of gravitons due to Odin's enchantment.
That's not all . Mjolnir is the mother god tempest . Odin defeated and trapped the god tempest inside a piece of uru then that uru was forged into mjolnir by the dwarfs of nidaveller .

Because then they put villains that are overwhelmingly-overwhelmingly powerfull (galaxy busters), and suddenly, any charachter can destroy planets and shit like that, i dont really get it really, i think that a good history dont need absurdly powerfull charachters, but people are easily driven away by big words and numbers like "he can lift X megamegamegatons!" or shit like that.

One thing they forgot to mention is that while Raiden can die it won't be forever due to him being a god. Thus he's immortal, Thor however can die. EDIT: I never stated that this would allow Raiden to win, it was only a fact left out. Jesus people, I shouldn't have to include this.
Thor can die but not by Raiden thus continuing a cycle of Raiden getting killed over and over again until Thor dies of old age in a million years and really whats the point of that?

@Proxima thor is multiversal, Raiden is multirealm. He fought an elder god, beings that created the fabric of space time for millenia and won several times. He has bested onaga who is a personification of several kamidogus and won. The kamidogus are the artifacts responsible for keeping realms intact. He beat shujinku who had the combined power and skills of several hundreds of warriors combined in a heartbeat. He was instrumental in beating the one being which is every realm combined, basically the end of everything. This is all lightside raiden who purposefully limits himself to the mortal body to be more humane. Dark Raiden has these powers and more, and uses them freely. Elder god Raiden is a being of a completely different magnitude. The real raiden is a being closer to the likes of zeus and even higher, and the fact that he can do that without using the kamidogus or shinnoks amulet, while here thor is given mjolnir, shows how dumb the competition is.

Actually, Thor's hammer can be lifted by anyone who is worthy, not just Thor. The limitations on who can lift is more magical than anything to do with the hammer's weight.
Thor would be the worthiest of the hammer, yes, but the ability to lift it is not based on the hammer's weight. I believe Captain America was able to lift Thor's hammer once, and even with the Super Soldier Serum, Cap is only as strong as a top Olympic Athlete. Cap could never lift something weighing a billion pounds unless there was something else that allowed for it, and in the case of Thor's hammer, magic.
Sam Nary actually to weild his hammer you need his gauntlets, which are charged with the power of a supernova, and his belt, which can recharge his gauntlets. It has nothing to do with weight, and being worthy is only a factor if a greater diety takes away his power, like Odin
john jones you don't need his gauntlets, you just need to be worthy to wield the hammer. Captain America, Odin, Bor, Loki, Conan, Superman, Wonder Woman, Miguel O'Hara (Spiderman 2099), and Woden have all picked up Mjolnir.

It's crazy how it's going to be nearly 10 years since Thor's first battle, and even back then, he's had great fights. This is _definitely_ a season 1 matchup, but that's what makes it even more fun. Thor cant lift anywhere near a million tons, the hammer was made in a dying star not from a dying star and it only weighs 20 kg to those who are worthy and unliftable to those who aren't. If it was a million tons then hulk would easily be able to lift since he has lifted a 150 billion ton mountain before. and if it was made out of a dying star then if thor dropped it it would sink through the ground dragging everything with it because it is so dense, it would also make thor one of the strongest superheroes, which he isnt.

Lightning is pointless against either, but Raiden doesn't have the physical power to kill Thor. Thor is kind of invincible in his armor relative than anything the Mortal Kombat universe can dish out. Not sure if Raiden stays permanently dead or not, but Thor can physically destroy Raiden's mortal form. Thor wins. No contest.
I love how they used Liquid Tension Experiment 2 for the soundtrack, very cool touch in my opinion, also holy hell that last blow feels heavy like a blue whale, you can feel the sheer amount of impact.
This battle is so one-sided. I mean if they are both immune to lightning based attacks then what Raiden can do? Nothing, becuase Raiden cannot match with Thor strength. So thats why this is so bad matchup

lol if you read Marvel, you'd know that Thor is ridiculously powerful. He's beaten beings more deadly than Raiden on a daily basis. Arguably he could even beat Superman.
Actually thor cant loose this battle - He is immune to lightning based attacks and physically almost invincible - he doesnt need to block any of raidens attacks cause raiden has simply no attack that could hurt Thor. Since both have unlimited endurance this battle could take a while if Thor only uses melee attacks cause raiden would avoud them. Anyway if Thor uses his Mjölnir to blow appart a continent Raiden is done. Basicly Thor could end this fight with a single attack
Thor isn't the only one who can wield Mjolnir. If you are worthy, you can use Mjolnir. Some people who have been worthy are Captain America (Comics), Spiderman 2099, Black Widow, and I do not lie when I say, Superman and Wonder Woman. Also, Raiden's Teleportation sound is so satifying. Like Strider's Sword sound.
That's SORT OF true in Superman's case. He was able to lift Mjolnir... For a brief moment, but was unable to do so later. Thor later clarifies that the circumstances (potential destruction of both the DC and Marvel universes) allowed Supes to momentarily wield the hammer, so it unlikely he could do so again at will. Wonder Woman, on the other hand, WAS worthy to lift the hammer without a doubt.
At one point a random character named Beta Ray Bill was found worthy, in fact using Mjollnir in such a way he was later given a copy of it all his own.
One teeny tiny little detail. Mjolnir was forged IN the heart of a dying star. Not of. It's Uru, not neutron star stuff, and only weighs something like 40-50 pounds. Still insanely powerful, though. Granted, I may have missed something, so feel free to correct me, internets.
Well seeing as that "uru" was forged in an environment where neutronium (neutron star "stuff") is naturally stable (on Earth it would decay so energetically it'd be like a continuous nuclear blast) it's probably a safe bet to assume the "uru" has some similar properties to neutronium (density for one).

They Said in the beginning, one of the rules of the mortal combat universe makes it so Raiden can't fight unless he takes mortal form. so basically he just couldn't. But he does retain all his power in mortal form so I don't think it would have changed much, Thor has taken people way physically stronger than Raiden and the electricity attacks can't hurt either of them. So yea, if he COULD go immortal all that would change is there would never be a winner.
For those who say Raiden should've won, looking at the maths and their skills and powers, Thor has a huge advantage right off the bat. His strength is much greater than Raiden's and while Raiden is more skills, Thor's nearly invincible by human terms, and his strength is virtually unmatched in the marvel universe. As stated, he boxed Captain America to a halt, overpowered THE HULK, and escaped a black hole. In order to fight, Raiden has to take a form suspectible to mortality, hence how he can 'die' in the Mortal Kombat games, and how he died here. Thor has his hammer which was indeed forged from a neutron star, making it so heavy that if you take one blow from it, you're done.

One problem though: Mjolnir wasn't made FROM a neutron star, it was forged from Uru metal using the heat of a dying star. Though it is still ridiculously heavy through its manipulation of gravitons due to Odin's enchantment.
That's not all . Mjolnir is the mother god tempest . Odin defeated and trapped the god tempest inside a piece of uru then that uru was forged into mjolnir by the dwarfs of nidaveller .

He has bested onaga who is a personification of several kamidogus and won. The kamidogus are the artifacts responsible for keeping realms intact. He beat shujinku who had the combined power and skills of several hundreds of warriors combined in a heartbeat. He was instrumental in beating the one being which is every realm combined, basically the end of everything. This is all lightside raiden who purposefully limits himself to the mortal body to be more humane. Dark Raiden has these powers and more, and uses them freely. Elder god Raiden is a being of a completely different magnitude. The real raiden is a being closer to the likes of zeus and even higher, and the fact that he can do that without using the kamidogus or shinnoks amulet, while here thor is given mjolnir, shows how dumb the competition is.

Actually, Thor's hammer can be lifted by anyone who is worthy, not just Thor. The limitations on who can lift is more magical than anything to do with the hammer's weight.

Thor would be the worthiest of the hammer, yes, but the ability to lift it is not based on the hammer's weight. I believe Captain America was able to lift Thor's hammer once, and even with the Super Soldier Serum, Cap is only as strong as a top Olympic Athlete. Cap could never lift something weighing a billion pounds unless there was something else that allowed for it, and in the case of Thor's hammer, magic.
Sam Nary actually to weild his hammer you need his gauntlets, which are charged with the power of a supernova, and his belt, which can recharge his gauntlets. It has nothing to do with weight, and being worthy is only a factor if a greater diety takes away his power, like Odin

While the hammer makeup is incorrect, it doesn't change the fact that the results were accurate.
Mjolnir was forged IN the core of a dying star not with a core of a dying star, so the hammer isn't as heavy as you think.

Actually thor cant loose this battle - He is immune to lightning based attacks and physically almost invincible - he doesnt need to block any of raidens attacks cause raiden has simply no attack that could hurt Thor. Since both have unlimited endurance this battle could take a while if Thor only uses melee attacks cause raiden would avoud them. Anyway if Thor uses his Mjölnir to blow appart a continent Raiden is done. Basicly Thor could end this fight with a single attack

Thor isn't the only one who can wield Mjolnir. If you are worthy, you can use Mjolnir. Some people who have been worthy are Captain America (Comics), Spiderman 2099, Black Widow, and I do not lie when I say, Superman and Wonder Woman.
Also, Raiden's Teleportation sound is so satifying. Like Strider's Sword sound.
That's SORT OF true in Superman's case. He was able to lift Mjolnir... For a brief moment, but was unable to do so later. Thor later clarifies that the circumstances (potential destruction of both the DC and Marvel universes) allowed Supes to momentarily wield the hammer, so it unlikely he could do so again at will. Wonder Woman, on the other hand, WAS worthy to lift the hammer without a doubt.

Well seeing as that "uru" was forged in an environment where neutronium (neutron star "stuff") is naturally stable (on Earth it would decay so energetically it'd be like a continuous nuclear blast) it's probably a safe bet to assume the "uru" has some similar properties to neutronium (density for one).

Michael Fowler If they were omnipotent they wouldn't have needed to all give Raiden their full power at the same time to beat Shao Khan, in fact they aren't omnipotent, they're simply rebellious aspects of The One Being's consciousness and are trying to prevent him from merging the realms through the acts of Onaga and Shao Khan, so no they aren't omnipotent, not by a long shot.
How do you know that that was their full power though

I’m getting tired of dragon ball and anime protag and dumb cartoon characters I am not as hype for this as I used to be. I miss when characters would just combo eachother until one won like u are saying to lol some old animations like this are good. Whatever season started the voice acting and got rid of fight is where it went down hill for me. Sure it limits Interaxtion but then why not use both so u don’t have to pay the actors as much either and they can use their iconic in game sounds like raidens here. No one could even mimic him good

They Said in the beginning, one of the rules of the mortal combat universe makes it so Raiden can't fight unless he takes mortal form. so basically he just couldn't. But he does retain all his power in mortal form so I don't think it would have changed much, Thor has taken people way physically stronger than Raiden and the electricity attacks can't hurt either of them. So yea, if he COULD go immortal all that would change is there would never be a winner.

For those who say Raiden should've won, looking at the maths and their skills and powers, Thor has a huge advantage right off the bat. His strength is much greater than Raiden's and while Raiden is more skills, Thor's nearly invincible by human terms, and his strength is virtually unmatched in the marvel universe. As stated, he boxed Captain America to a halt, overpowered THE HULK, and escaped a black hole. In order to fight, Raiden has to take a form suspectible to mortality, hence how he can 'die' in the Mortal Kombat games, and how he died here. Thor has his hammer which was indeed forged from a neutron star, making it so heavy that if you take one blow from it, you're done.
