  • My life in Gibraltar, introducing Hoppy in Gibraltar, April 2024,
Gibraltar, is the British Overseas Territory, and city located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. It has an area of 6.7 km2 (2.6 sq mi) and is bordered to the north by Spain (Campo de Gibraltar). The landscape is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, at the foot of which is a densely populated town area, home to some 32,688 people (2022 estimate), primarily Gibraltarians.
Gibraltar is most famous for The Rock of Gibraltar, a 426 meter high limestone rock rising out of the sea. The rock can be seen for many miles. It is home to the Barbary Apes, a type of tail-less macaque which are the only wild monkeys in Europe.
A unique feature of the Rock is its system of underground passages, known as the Galleries or the Great Siege Tunnels. The first of these was dug towards the end of the Great Siege of Gibraltar, which lasted from 1779 to 1783.

Looks a lot of fun riding around on those when weather is good and traffic is very light. Good to use in a bike lane where it exists.

I prefer the scooter system we had many years ago. Most families could afford to buy a scooter outright, probably from a company like Tri-ang. They travelled at safe speeds (for pedestrians too) on pavements only and were also a great form of exercise. There were also no apps or helmets carrying other people's bacteria to worry about.
There may be no range problems around the Rock but, up the Rock, it may be different. I think, on future visits to Gibraltar, we will continue to use taxis or the excellent bus service.
    Thanks for another great video!

Thankyou Janna, i nearly got a hoppy back in November just after they came to the rock, i prefer the other kind of two wheels....Get that man a motorcycle, not a kids scooter 😁 🤣

😆 I don't like motocyclists either, they don't follow the rules, sometimes it feels like we are in Bangkok😮

@JannaTravels I understand you, there are provably more scooters on the rock than the whole country of Thailand, and you can't hear them coming, even the ones with the grannies riding 🤭

11:59 yes i watched a video of an E Bike easily keeping up with cars near towns - but when i rode a moped i was always looking behind me then making it clear to cars behind me when i was ready for them to overtake.. Maybe close Gibraltar to cars on shopping days the you are free to use scooter safely... (dont think that will happen but who knows with the cost of the road tax rising so high now for my desiel car).. Kevin..

Hi Kevin! There is no road tax in Gib I think... All shops are on Main street, no need to drive any way 😀 People need cars to go home up the Rock otherwise it is impossible for elderly people to get there, buses don't go all the way up...

@@JannaTravels I forgot that - now my economic mind is wondering what might happen if i run a car in UK that was registered in Gibraltar.. no doubt have to re register at UK border.. Thanks Janna..
