    As a non-native English speaker, a problem with "to check" is that this verb is much more commonly used to mean to verify, or to tick boxes. After many years of using English and living in the UK, I discovered that checking might also refer to stopping or slowing just because I started taking skating lessons.

    Are there exercises you can practice off the ice to help with isolating your upper body and lower body? Like when you’re doing a 3 turn for example, your hips need to swivel while your arms and shoulders stay anchored and rigid. I’m just starting out skating but I have the hardest time moving my lower body while keeping my upper body anchored, the instinct is that your arms and shoulder swing with whatever way the rest of your body goes. How do skaters develop the strength to make your lower body and upper body do two different things at once? I hope this question makes sense.

      Have you check out the video I posted covering how to practice a 3 turn off ice? There are a few exercises on that one that should help you achieve this!
      If you need more help, I'm sure I can think up a few more 💪⛸️

      It might also help to utilise your look (watching direction) and consciousness. I tell my upper body to stay firmly in place and then first look the direction I'm trying to go next and that'll tell my legst where they want to go. I eventually imagine someone pulling my arms outwards by my middle finger. That'll keep them in place additionally. It's really often first about "knowing where you're headed" and finding the right image. Need to lift your leg? Imagine someone firmly holding on to your hips or pulling you up by a strand of your hair. Find the right image and let it work for you. It's like a shortcut, packing tons of body instructions into one single image.

      Some strengthening work on coordination and balance, without your rollers on, focusing on specific moves that you want to improve can do wonders! Some of the "off ice" /"off rollers" videos I have been posting should help 🙂

    Not so much ice-skating terminology but I was wondering if you need to do anything special for your foot care, especially when you are training a lot and spending a lot of time with your feet in ice skating boots?

    Thanks for the explanation of the 🐫. Actually I skated on the same ice with Coach Baranova in London, we didn't talk, I just knew it was her.
    Does she wear her skates untied? I'm not saying loose, they seemed to be totally missing the laces.

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 года назад +2

      You're welcome! You can thank coach Baranova for it, I just passed the message along 😂
      And yes that sounds like her! When I last saw her she barely had her skates tied up and her blades had to be bolted back to the boot to keep them there! 😂
      An incredibly talented and knowledgable coach!
