    Continuing to wire the Centroid Acorn to our Dyna Myte DM2800 milling machine retrofit.
    Check out the latest version of the electrical panel build in this new video:

      I’m editing it now. I always have way too much footage (sometimes 10 or more hours) that I have to cut down into something that hopefully isn’t super boring. So I’m not sure how soon it will release but I am working on it.

      Thanks so much! The background music in this video is a piece music available from Epidemic Sound entitled "Run Your Way"

    This is clear off the path but I have RHJ GOLD and a taig milling machine CNC from the Taig factory. Ran on Mach 3 on a 12-year-old computer I think XP. Hard Drive crapped Mach 3 won't run on the newer computers without different boards. So I'm guessing the micro proto 2000 driver from the factory is obsolete as well? I looked at Acorn but I'm finding the same thing they're saying only a windows 10 single-core CPU will work what are you using for a computer? Mike E

      I'm using a small shuttle computer that is loaded up with Windows 10 for the Acorn. I do, however, support a large number of industrial machines that require Windows XP to operate. We purchase refurbished Dell Optiplex 780's on eBay and load them up with XP and keep the machines running.

    I have a Bridgeport series 1 and would like to cnc it, I have anilam brackets for all 3 axis. Every kit I see is $5000 to $7000 . I already have ballscrews and have ballscrew for the z that in a bracket. The brackets I have are pulley type. Would it be cheaper in the long run to just buy something like microkinetics kit for $5400 or do you think I could do it significantly cheaper buying the parts myself? Do you have any resources you could point me to?

      So you would be looking for motors, drives, and some sort of CNC controller?

      Pete Rondeau yes

      Ok, my take on this. Due to the cost and size of a bridgeport, it is not as common of a conversion as the benchtop machines. For that reason there aren't as many resources available, or competition for kits. You could definitely convert it cheaper by exchanging your time for money and spend it researching all the options. Basically redoing the work the companies that are providing packages did. We once owned a Bridgeport Boss5 mill. It cost us in the range you are talking about to upgrade it and it was already a CNC mill. It has been at least 15 years since I last played with retrofitting a machine of that size so I'm a bit out of the loop on prices for those size motors and drives. I'm sure you've already been there but I would think the CNCzone forums would be your best bet for info.

    Pete, , can we use the acorn on any size CNC mill up to maybe 7-15hp

    • @cbb1962
      @cbb1962 5 лет назад +1

      The Acorn can be used on any mill that the motors can accept step/direction commands. The spindle is controlled by a 0-10 VDC signal no limit on size.

    • @PeteRondeau

      Paul, I don't see why that would be a problem. The Acorn really has no concept how big the machine is, the control is still the same. What are you thinking about retrofitting?

    Hello. , does the software work in french? Please

      Hi Daniel. I don’t have any experience with that so I’m not the best person to ask. Questions like that would be best directed to the Acorn topic on the centroid CNC support forum.

    Would it not be possible to add the 5v from the centroid power supply to the steppers? This was the solution I was planning to use based off of the diagram for the Leadshine drives. I'd be interested to know is you thought this was not a good solution. I am doing a retrofit on an Emco PCMill 50 and have all of the items on hand, except the machine. Woukd be a good time for me to make a change if necessary.

      Hi Chris, I don't really have a good answer for you here because I don't know what the the Leadshine stepper drives are using the 5 volts for. The only 5 volt signal my Gecko drives require is their input step and direction signals, and that is provided directly from the Acorn. There is 5 volts available on the power supply, but I would want to make sure it was only being used for digital logic and nothing that could feed electrical noise back into the supply.

      @@PeteRondeau Thank you for the reply. As I said, I am new to the CNC world, but this was my misunderstanding. I also am going to be using the 251X drivers, and thought what I had seen on another channel was a solution to the same issue. Thank you again for your time and work in producing such great content.

      That's what I did on my G0704 conversion- use the 5V Centroid power supply to create a 5V+ bus to supply the stepper drivers, connect the stepper driver signal grounds to the appropriate Acorn inputs, and invert the step signals in CNC12. I did try using 24V with drop-down resistors, and it didn't work well for me.

    What do you call the plastic wire containment structure being used? From where is it purchased along with your terminal blocks? It all looks like nice components for any build. Thanks Chris

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  4 года назад +2

      It is referred to by a number of different names: wire trough, wireway, or cable raceway. You can get it at places like Automation Direct or even on Amazon. amzn.to/37PXKmk (This is an amazon affiliate link and as an Amazon associate I earn from qualifying purchases) The style of terminal blocks are referred to as DIN rail terminal blocks and can be obtained from the same sources. The are offered in different sizes depending on the wire gauge you are using. They are also offered in screw terminal and spring clamp styles that just grip the end of the wire
