How to make an axe handle with a shaving horse / hand tools only

The old way of making an axe handle.
Traditionally, French, Italian or Basque axes have a conical eye, which allows to replace their handle quite quickly. Conical fitting = pickaxe handle; different from the German, Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian axe eye, which requires fitting the handle from below and tightening it with a wedge on top.
This French style was much more important to the native americans, when the French-made "Trade Axe" had become a bargaining chip in the new world. This axe mounted by the tribes with a shorter handle gave birth to the Tomahawk.
A shaving horse allows the handle to be held while it is fashioned with a drawknife. There is no better way to do quality work.
