They just passed a new law that allows US credit card companies to use the unofficial rate. They are using the MEP rate which is pretty damn close. Im not sure if all banks/credit cards are providing this rate though. You could bring cash if you want but its def not necessary and way more convenient to use card

I was in Argentina for 4 months when Madonna was making the movie "Evita". The Argentinian people were not happy as they found it disrespectful that Madonna play the part. The people in Buenos Aires are very friendly and so beautiful... I appreciated my stay in Argentina...❤

Volpe I was looking into this. Always interested in travel. I found an article that states you can Western Union yourself money and get a very similar exchange rate. You can use a credit card and receive cash at a high exchange rate at retail stores in Argentina. Therefore, if you need more money, you can use your credit or debit card and convert it to a very similar exchange rate to what you received and pick up the cash at a retailer.
Next time you can send money to yourself via WU and pick it up in one of their bigger offices. Argentina started to implement dolar MEP, you can use your foreign cards with exchange rate close to blue. * Visa and Mastercard but always check with your bank first. Have fun.
I stayed in nunez and la boca, love their malbecs. I’ve veg so I didn’t try the bife but I hope yiou do. I loved BA, tried to go to iguazu but the plane turned around. There’s an amazing record store in Palmero. The people were so nice, I left my debit card in the machine and it was returned to me w/o issue. Check out the cemetery in recoleta

Because the “true” rate of exchange mandated by the government is not actually the real one by which everyone lives. The real exchange rate is called the “blue dollar” and you get a lot more bang for your buck using that one basically.
It's a couple of factors: corrupt politicians with the power to print money to buy votes and people. Inflation which legally is around 70 to 120% but in reality is more like 200 to 400% according to J. Milei economist and next president of Argentina. They are implementing the same plan like in Venecuba.😳😭😱🇦🇷
Probably thinking that it’ll be more in the near future, so they are gathering as much foreign currency now that is much stabler and protecting themselves. You double your money in peso to spend there but if you take their currency and trade it back to usd I doubt anyone would want it or give you back double; the 176 peso per dollar rate.

Argentinians cannot purchase American dollars so are willing to exchange on the black market. Their value is stronger than Argentinian Pesos.
