I watch a lot RUclipsrs in the figure community but always come here when I need an honest opinion. The critiques you give really show a passion for action figures rather than being someone who just collects. We need more of this in the community, especially prices are rising and essential needs are taking up a larger portion of our wallet. Cheers Anthony :)
This is the best classic looking Batman by McFarlane so far, but if someone would've given this to me without the packaging, I would've never guessed in a million years that he's The Knightfall Batman.
The Knightfall Batman, from the issue where he gets his back broken, looks very close to this figure. It’s the Jim Aparro art style. But, yes, he should have more muscle definition.
Yeah his style was very close to Neil Adam’s take, I think with this figure they hit a middle ground so they can easily reuse it, they can get a hell of a lot of mileage out of this considering this design of Batman was used for decades
Speeding bullets batman still my favorite, I hope they also reuse that body mold with slight proportion changes to make a prime gray and black batman. Also I do hope Mcfarlane releases another Tim Fox Batman but with the Justice League future state suit he used. The knightfall body mold would fit it nicely
Pretty happy with it, still waiting for mine to arrive. Shame about the grey as it looks closer to white than the look in the comics from everything I've seen online. I also hate the McFarlane stylised capes so I'll probably replace it with cloth. I'm a short ears guy, gotta love Jim Lee.
Great review. I'm happy to say that this is my first official articulated Batman figure that I purchased. Amazing figure, I love it's blend of classic and modern. Looking forward to creating a stop motion project with it in the future. I prefer medium length ears as well
Mister Anthony, your technical and objective analysis/take on action figures has taught this old doctor so much-and I am grateful. An extraordinary reviewer, you have helped me cerebrate on my many action figure decisions; ponder about (something) carefully, especially before making a decision or reaching a conclusion. A brilliant chap, you are! 👍👏 Now, as for the Question of the Day, I fancy Batman with medium-sized ears, then long and finally, the shorter ears; the longest ears look for Batman I will go are what was seen in the Arkham games: Asylum, City, Knight. Aesthetically, the lack of muscle definition takes away from the figure slightly, thus making Batman look less imposing. Nevertheless, I concur; this IS the best classic Batman ever from McFarlane Toys. And yes, I do want it in my collection. 🙏 As always, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, mate! Grazie! Arrivederci, Giovanni Marino, M.D.🇬🇧
It would definitely be interesting to see the Knightsend version of the armor as a figure both in blue & red, but somehow it being a Mcfarlane figure both will have a lot of missing paint unfortunately...
Long ears. Not Kelly Jones ridiculous. I would say Batman Returns Length. Long and imposing. Short ears on Miller and Sorry (only problem with) West Amazing Suit. Is the suit ears too small and Disappear
Oh snap! The review we've been waiting for!😅 Long ears don't make sense when hiding behind a crate. I think the wrinkle critique was reaching. Even Baffleck had wrinkles in his padded muscular bat suit. I think it adds a certain demensionality.
Ear length would depend on the costume. For the grey, blue, oval costume, I prefer long ears. For the modern Batman, I prefer short ears. By long ears, I'm not talking about the Kelley Jones style but more like Neal Adams, Jim Aparo, Don Newton, etc.
Hey Anthony,I just wanted to tell you that you're doing an amazing job,and your reviews will help companies improve their figures overtime,if not already,I've seen a few changes since, but I'm proud of you.💟
Cool, do you love this more than the DC Essentials Knightfall Batman? I'm trying to decide between a used DC Essentials (has a bit of damage on the ears, a little bit cut, just a bit) and a brand new McFarlane Knightfall, both are about US25$. God bless. Please advice :-) I'm new to collecting adult action figures, it'll be my very first.
The design and all is really cool but the tone of grey killed it for me, wish it was darker. I hope they re-release him with other colors. And hopefully they'll use the Speeding Bullets some day. Short or medium ears for me. Great review, Ioved it
Proportions and silhouette are great, even the musculature is quite good by McFarlane standards... but he still looks far too doughy for a comic book superhero, and I hate how restrictive the diaper is + the never-ending lack of thigh swivel continues to drive me nuts. I like the blue colour, but the grey is definitely too light. McF figures are slowly improving for the most part, but I'm not likely to replace my DC Essential Batman anytime soon. Thanks for another good review!
Ive gotta say I wasn't wholly disapointed with this one and am glad mcfarlane mostly delivered with this look bc its probably my favorite look for batman. The only hang ups I have are the ugly knee joints (looks like someone took a hatchet to the lateral sides of his knee caps), the limited ab crunch, and to a lesser extent the choice of colors (particularly the yellow gray). Apart from that im glad the proportioning is mistly there and captures a good heroic look. Def the cream of the crop in my batman line up from mcfarlane. Still doesent convince me enough to dethrone my DC essentials knightfall batman tho.
Looks like Alfred forgot to iron the batsuit. Not the best but definitely not the worst. Sweet lord! Can it be?! A Bat-a-rang not in the size of a phone book?!! It's a Christmas miracle! Now if Mcfarlane could only set this figure as the bar and try to surpass it for future figures in their DC line. I wonder what character is taking all the cake budget for 2023?
Tough question on the ears because the Arkham Asylum video game ears are longer but not too long and I love those. But I also really love Ben Afflecks BvS cowl and that’s short ears
I don't collect DC figures, but if I wanted a Batman this is the one I would get. I remember reading this storyline as the comics were coming out back in the day, but I do wish the grey was darker. For the qotd, medium.
10:00 I actually took mine apart, and for whatever reason in the chest where the top of the ball peg connects there is a lip or cup to, secure, I guess, the ball peg. If you trim that lip down you can get a bit more motion there. But, it is a problem that I have hope McFarlane Toys will correct. They've been pretty responsive to fan feedback (wrist and ankle joints are one example, the side eye is another), so I hope we'll eventually see this corrected. Great review Anthony.
@@AnthonysCustomsI think he means the first releases had ball pegs which were not sculpted and didn't look nice did give almost any range. These are somewhat better and are continued to the sculpt. But yeah, they should work on not making the legs ratchety, very tough to stand without the stands
Great review Anthony! (Just subbed by the way!) I really like your take on figures in general, and on this one in specific. Helped me decide to buy one. I will say this, recently I have been into the history of Batman, via the artists etc., and this figure, is a sort of generic version of the 80's and 90's look, as done by artists like Jim Aparo and others. I think the wrinkles are simply Mac's way of conveying that a suit is over the muscles. Not much more to it than that. Your points cover the rest quite well. I had put off getting this one for a while, but really SEEING the figure, helped me decide. Thanks for that. Keep up the exceptional reviews!
the photo on the left with the big ears is the post knightfall Batman that got his back mended and got trained up by Lady Shiva. It should be interesting if Mcfarlane actually does a Kelly Jones styled Batman.
I think this Batman is to McFarlane toys what the pizza Spider-Man was to marvel legends at the time. As in both really good figures for each brand’s most popular character that put on a high standard.
I used to think Anthonycustoms used to be far to critical and negative but as I’ve been in the toy community longer I’ve come to appreciate his reviews. In fact I usually go watch them before I get a figure. Do I always agree with him on everything? No, but his honesty and notice to detail is what is needed in this review community. Too many people push and overhype a figure knowing it’s not that good.
Though I like the proportion on this one but I hope they reuse the speeding bullets Batman buck in the future. I don't like the weird cape pose on this one but overall I like better than most McFarlane Batman figures
Just got mine, out of the box the upper torso barely moves at all but the lower torso crunches forward maybe 40 degrees and looks like it’s more than yours. I haven’t pulled it apart so I’m not sure if I have a factory issue allowing more movement for lower torso but seems to be noticeably different than yours
I think this look for Batman is cool. Definitely the best Batman from McFarlane Toys, barring the Speeding Bullets and AzBat. Batman with shorter ears is what I like. Medium is good, too! Thank you for the review, Anthony. Excellent as always!
I think AzBat and Speeding bullet are the only 2 mcfarlane figures I've bought an extra of. The painting that I did turned out fine, so I didn't end up needing them, but I liked those figures enough to get an extra incase i screwed them up. AzBat is probably my favorite McFarlane DC figure.
I'm a short ear preference. I definitely prefer Azbat, speeding bullets, or Parallax in terms of body shape. I want some more meat, this is a little lean or slight for my ideal Batman. This body seems to work better for some other characters though. Catman seems good.
Ideally, I like this look for batman with darker gray and black shading on the blue. Sad that they made exactly that as a con exclusive so its way to expensive for a toddy Mac figure.
I like the short ears. Dude is sneaky around and being stealthy. I feel the long ears would easily hit things. The medium ears also work. But I like short ears Batman because it seems more functional.
I had some issues with his Hush, Three Jokers and Rebirth Batman figures so for my money this is the best Bruce Wayne Batman they've done, otherwise Speeding Bullets Superman Batman has my favorite sculpt.
After watching the Tim Burton movie long ears were my favorite. Then I saw Jim Lee's Batman and didn't mind short ears. I will just go with medium ears. Long enough to notice he has the ears on his cowl. If I see this figure, I will make sure to get it. I will paint the core shadow on the mask. It just looks like something is missing without it. Even the 1967 cowl had it.
Was waiting for you to review this one. Definitely a great Batman fig on its own, but it’s not nearly as good as the 30th anniversary sdcc version. I normally hate cell shading on figures, but it works very well with the darker blue and grey color (it’s also more accurate color wise)
I love long ears, but yeah medium is great. Im gonna get this one and straighten those ears out and get a cloth cape on him. I hate when the box art itself doesn't match the fig, it's very telling of the people in charge of the box images, that they don't care and this goes for other companies too
Another fantastic review of a very good product. You are on a roll with your latest reviews. With T. Rex and Grimlock reviewed lately, a Top 10 of 2023 video is forming. I like Batman with the medium ears which is the reason why I like this product. McFarlane finally listens, a classic Batman and a Wonder Woman in one year! If you haven't taken a gander at the Maestro Planet FuRay line - I think you might like Veteran William and Blade Master. It is appreciated when action figures border on art.
Medium I would say, for short no shorter than Jim Lee style. For longer ears I prefer Keatons look in Returns (I do love Kelly’s work) but it in the comics? I prefer medium.
For the card and box art. They chose that cover because it’s the first issue Batman debuts his “new look” which is the beginning of him wearing this costume.

While i don't mind the long ears, i do prefer medium. This is gonna sound weird but i only like the short ears on Ben Affleck Batman and Dick Grayson's Batman suit from the Reborn run.
One of my biggest at issues with McFarlane is his lack of sculpt of musculature. I mean, does Batman not have any muscles on his legs come on there’s no definition.
WOW! 9/10! That's great Anthony! Really good to hear! I'm very, very pleased with mine too and hoping to see a black and grey on this body sometime soon 🙌
@@AnthonysCustoms its more similar to Aparo than Kelley Jones and the other comics example you provided, I feel. Not terribly similar., but more so than the examples provided.
I really like this figure, but I was a bit disappointed when I got it hand. Specially the lack of ab crunch. I like your reviews because you’re honest with your thoughts.
Use heat to pop off the ball joint for the waist then use a drimel or hobby knife to trim around the rims of the holes a bit, you should unlock the range a lot by doing this and it’s simple to do
Great review as always. Speeding Bullets "Batman" is definitely an underrated release. Which one would you say is better, Anthony? Speaking either neutrally as a reviewer o just your preference. I do hope we get a regular release AzBat with a different paintjob.
I still prefer my dc direct essentials knightfall version. I just wish the arms on that version were a little shorter. I prefer my bat ears medium like this look.

@@AnthonysCustoms its more similar to Aparo than Kelley Jones and the other comics example you provided, I feel. Not terribly similar., but more so than the examples provided.
@anthonyscustoms Review Catman. It has the same body buck as Knightfall Batman
I really like this figure, but I was a bit disappointed when I got it hand. Specially the lack of ab crunch. I like your reviews because you’re honest with your thoughts.
Use heat to pop off the ball joint for the waist then use a drimel or hobby knife to trim around the rims of the holes a bit, you should unlock the range a lot by doing this and it’s simple to do
@@gnoLeDwerdnA I’m a bit scared to mess up the figure, but I might give it a shot.
Yeah I do agree with you which is why I don't get why collectors are hyping this batman so much... still prefer the MCF blue Hush over this
Glad i got the last one in target
qotd for me would be longish medium ears, just enough to give him a strongly noticeable silhouette. really hate the short stumpy ears
Would you make a top ten of Batman please... From all companies
This surprisingly looks great for a mcfarlane. The one with shading looks better too me though.
Dude the baggy thing you're cryin about got me weak 😂 oh my goodness dude.
Here we goooo
Great review as always. Speeding Bullets "Batman" is definitely an underrated release. Which one would you say is better, Anthony? Speaking either neutrally as a reviewer o just your preference.
I do hope we get a regular release AzBat with a different paintjob.
The speeding bullets body is way better
@@AnthonysCustoms Thanks for your answer!
I still prefer my dc direct essentials knightfall version. I just wish the arms on that version were a little shorter. I prefer my bat ears medium like this look.
This is like almost my ideal Batman design. If only the blue was black though.
Deff like the medium and short
kelley jones long ears batman gotta be my favorite
First comment, lol. Would you be interest in reviewing the Mcfarlane Hush Superman???
i dont really want to buy it unfortunately.
Waiting on you to review this one S well…… great job … !!
Hi Anthony, will you review the movie 6 pack?
yes
I still think Year 2 is my favorite
Closest Norm Breyfogle Batman figure we'll ever get.
Damn ....9. Might have to pick this up.
