    I'm so excited you did this head to head. I was almost going to grab a harbor freight one, then reconsidered. I understand though, you weren't saying "don't get this " but it simply helped me make a decision. So - thanks!

    HF magnet is the way to go. I pulled up all kinds of goodies with that beast out of the lake. Plus, the case protects the magnet and once it sticks...it sticks.

    Realize too the harbor freight is double sided so the pull rating is for both sides. Which is why it states only 100lbs which means per side. The neo mag are single sided rated.
    The HF will also just pull up minerals and nails and stuff, the neo is for magnet fishing because on the good stuff like bikes/guns/items will usually be coated with grime or rust which the neo will pull through. The HF won’t attach through that.

    the protective Housing "Bell" around the Neodymium Rare earth magnet reduces pull in that area by 40-50% it is more or less a directional magnet in that housing. only the unexposed surface side has max pulling power. run yer test again only set the magnet on its side and watch what happens.. that HF magnet will shatter or break apart on first few hard contacts with a hard surface, such as the broken one you bought. it was prolly dropped in shipping showing how week it is with impacts....

    That Harbor Freight magnet should make a great BIG splash when you throw it in the water. Thanks for helping to clean up the environment.

    I'd get a better idea if you used a 200 lb spoon. But looking fwd to your update when you go fishing. I clicked on bc someone gave me the exact harbor freight magnet. I'm a metal scrapper, but more than that, I'd like to see what I can find hidden in the depths. Also, how do you know there aren't trees/how to avoid getting magnet hung up etc?

    When you return the broken magnet to HF, invest in a camera tripod. That way you won't have to do everything one handed.

    hey i bought the CMS 173 lb slightly smaller arrives tomorrow..i am retired and live in Florida - have a kyack...thinking of going out a ways on the ocean ( so I still see the ocean floor) will this work? My thoughts is there is a few recorded shipwrecks- close..do you think i should upgrade to 250lb? i dont think i need the extra pull - as may be little more dangerous kyacking-- but I dont know...Also, might go out with a Camera and record...dont need anything too heavy...thanks for the video

      +Vets First if you're going to be pulling straight up the one you ordered should work fine, if you're dragging it you might want a little more pull. These magnets are amazingly strong and magnet fishing is really fun,, good luck, I hope you strike it rich. Oh and I would definitely record your adventures.

    Save your time & money & just go dumpster diving, no water, no rust, no dirt, and you can leave the tons of trash you dont want! Dumpsters are full of electronics that have never been wet, full of guns and body parts too! And lots of good to eat food too!

    It looks like the Harbor freight is steel cased so the steel will become a magnet and draw from the sides and the smaller one is cased in stainless which is non ferrous so it won't be magnetic.

    The HF magnet isn't sitting in an Aluminum protected case/fastener, if the Neo magnet wasn't invaded in that it would pull just as hard from any side. Since the Neo magnet is the consistency of ceramic and will shatter easily.

    • @adamage1766
      @adamage1766 5 лет назад

      I saw that. It seems like this guy did not have good intuitive thought. Obviously the case on the magnet was blocking the pull.

    The reviews on Harbor Freight's own website are poor for this magnet. Why would you even buy one?

    • @codyroesch3888
      @codyroesch3888 5 лет назад +1

      I just bought one because I can't find anything better locally and I'm not getting online for one just yet. Didn't know high powered magnets were going to be so hard to track down. Home Depot was worse than Harbor Freight for magnets. I have all weekend to fish and I've tried everywhere locally but I will need amazon's help on this i guess.

Too Bad don't make Coin Magnets .. American coins can't, but Many Canadaian and other Foregein Coins you can Catch them..

      dont go putting words in my mouth now, never said idiot. but i agree to the time out. H/F sells china products ( not known for great quality) An n52 Neo magnet of good quality. should attract within 5" with no resistance on the pole of the neo magnet ( you know the average size of most men) lol
      plus not to mention the pole direction of the ceramic magnet is radial.
      My fishing magnet is a disc N52 50 mm x 20 mm. it has a lift pull of 450kg. works awesome
