      If you're a professional musician and the choice is a $20,000 vintage strat or one of these, it's much safer to bring an American Original strat because it's easily replaceable.

    I have the same Jaguar in sunburst and it has become my favourite guitar. It is an incredible instrument, there is something about it that makes me not want to put it down. My band play anything from country to punk and hard rock and this guitar has never let me down. I use a TS mini and a Catalinbread Katzenkoenig for overdrive and lead distortion respectively and it's hard to get a bad sound out of it. No problems with the stock bridge either.

    They look and sound great!!! The Telecaster sounded the best, as usual, and his playing was wonderful, going for clear tone, rather than distorted or synthetic sounds. I cringe when guitar demos use distortion, because that just hides the character of their sound. I'm still planning on getting a Squire classic vibe 50's Telecaster, because it's almost identical. I'm also thinking about getting a top-loading bridge, or rather a bridge that allows either/or. That way I can top-wrap the wound strings, and string-through the plain strings, for better sustain. When I top wrapped my LP Special, the plain strings were too weak, so only top-wrapping the wound strings solved that. Great demonstrations guys, but the Chinese Squires are so nicely made, and electronics and hardware easy to switch...

Can't compare to a the calibre of the Fender Original series. If Gibson did a cheaper Les Paul with custom shop specs that would make more sense

    • @sweetntenderhooligans1649
      @sweetntenderhooligans1649 6 лет назад +5

      You cannot compare a Fender to a Gibson because of the way they're constructed. Gibson glues in their necks, carved maple cap on top, binding and inlayed logos. Just the sheer amount of time to let for example the binding glues set and so on are much more labour- and time-consuming processes. That's why Gibson brought out the Studio and Faded models... You can't have a Rolls Royce for the price of a Ford...

    • @kevgh3869
      @kevgh3869 6 лет назад +4

      Son you don't own a Gibson if you make a comment like that. I own three Gibson guitars and two Fender guitars (one of them is the Strat in this video in candy red) and to be honest the Gibson quality is better and the sex appeal of the Gibson is higher.

    Well said, regarding the flatter radii and larger frets. I have been playing Fenders for 57+ years, and I have been after Fender for a long time, to give us the great guitar-making methods of times past, with more contemporary-appropriate playability. However, I wonder if you know how the old Telecaster wiring really worked? James Burton played it quite well. 1. Bridge PUP. 2. NOTCH: both PUPS out-of-phase (a push-pull pot could give both) 3.(Middle Switch) Neck PUP treble 4. Neck PUP Bassy, dependent upon tone cap.
    The Jaguar was the next thing after the Jazzmasters. But in culture, I guess you are right, regarding after the "excitement" of the Stratocaster. And imagine a Jaguar with an added Clapton tone circuit! And back in the late '50s, early '60s, bands played rhythm guitar with a bassy tonality, to fill in the middle. Give a listen to the original "Sleep Walk."

      Do you think the brand new ones were aged amber colour when they were sold in the 50's? Maple is a pale wood, and clear coat over it will be pale. I'm more concerned about the pumpkin colour of the body - it's like they went true vintage with the neck, then went with the fake-aged orange on the body from the pre 2012 AVRI's.

    • @poopskipper4070
      @poopskipper4070 6 лет назад

      Brent Wade Oh ok I didn’t know that so that makes me like the pale necks more now. But how come some of the old ones have that orangey color on the neck how does that occur? And I’ve always wondered why some rosewood boards are a little shiny and some are super shiny and some aren’t and just look kinda dry.

    • @brentwade9346
      @brentwade9346 6 лет назад +3

      They add amber to some to give them an aged look, but all of them will darken over time...especially with exposure to sunlight. Rosewood - that comes down to each individual piece of wood, but also some people treat them with oils to protect them and dye to darken them.

    • @MontyCantsin5
      @MontyCantsin5 6 лет назад

      Exactly what kind of spec do you have in mind when you ask about 'modern upgraded appointments'? Fender offer loads of modern feeling variations on classic designs (in terms of neck profiles, bridge options, fretboard radius, fret wire, etc). I can't help but feel that there's a gap in their range when it comes to offering more vintage spec (with a few modern components to aid, for example, tuning) on non-customshop models. For start, why can't they make a production Tele with large neck profile (U would be good), lightweight ash body, nitro finish, a six saddle bridge, and 9.5 inch radius? More people are looking for less poly and larger necks! I don't care too much about pickups - they can always be replaced. I think you definitely have a point about finishing methods though; I would love to see more guitars with nitro as standard. As for the Elite Strats and Teles, they look very tempting (I thought about getting one), but the body contours are a step too far, and the neck is too thin. The position of the truss rod adjustment also looks bad to a lot of people.

    • @letmeooze
      @letmeooze 6 лет назад

      Monty Cantsin
      This is my preferred spec:
      Neck
      Modern C (or multi options)
      9.5" - 14"or 12"
      22 fret
      Truss rod wheel (utility) or standard truss rod (aesthetics)
      Hardware
      2 Saddle mastery style bridge (tele and jag/jazzmaster)
      Modern 6 saddle bridge (strat and tele)
      Locking tuners
      Body
      Neck plate contours for higher fret access with ease.
      Nitro finish over both classic pastel colours and some modern options.
      Pickups
      Low-med output vintage inspired.
      Frets are undecided for me personally.
      Essentially put all the modern functional aspects in place, then add the vintage colours, finish and pickups in. To me that's the best of both worlds.

    • @MontyCantsin5

      I would be happy to go along with most of the spec you've outlined. 9.5 inch radius is good, 6 saddle bridge is much better for intonation (I really think purists are too hung up on three brass barrels being the holy grail for Teles; I'd rather be in tune), locking tuners are a plus. I would go for 6105 or 6150 fret wire myself; jumbo frets feel better. My point still stands though: Don't Fender already make instruments that match the features you prefer (with the exception of good vintage voiced pickups), or have you really found it difficult to get a Strat or Tele that suits your needs?

      Monty Cantsin I've found they get close but then do something that always puts me off. I'm considering a deluxe Nashville tele but I've had some trouble with the MIM fretwork. Elite teles are out of my reach for the next while.

    A grand more to beat up a brand new guitar before you even get it.... The Cu$tom $hop has quite a racket going. 🤪

    I know the maple neck's gonna age ...... but for now it looks like a squier to be honest, why'd fender have to phase out the American vintage series, those were WAY better

    Very nice guitars without doubt but imo they could be viewed as "budget" Custom Shop type instruments or over priced "Classic Player" . Watch the impending scramble for the Vintage Re-issues on the second hand market unfold ...

    Why is Fender still making that 6-point bridge? It goes out of tune way more easily than the 2-point. The Tele body and neck colors don't match very well. They sound pretty good, and it's great that if you want to relic them, they let yo do that yourself; just get a screwdriver, a hammer, and a cigarette, and you don't have to pay a whole lot extra.

      mel obrien the 2 point doesn't have the body and sustain as the 6 point...and I think you are the tuning problem buddy as I have quite a few strats (actually 8) and 2 had the 2 points and those were soon swapped for 6 pointers as they lost tuning and sustain so rapidly

    Cool guitars, but why spend time blathering about: 'over time, the guitar will age'. May as well say: 'the guitar is made out of wood and metal and the sound is played through an amplifier'.

      Because a nitrocellulose finish, as these guitars have (at least the topcoat), will acquire marks of age a lot more naturally than, say, a poly finish which will tend to stay unblemished longer but may remain a bit too glossy and new looking for some tastes ten years on. It's just something that some people like, so that's why we mentioned it.

    Real guitarists play 7. 25 and play well. Wussie guitarists of today whine and cry, mommy I cant play 7. 25 fenders. Please tell Fender to sell us 9. 25 necks and call them vintage originals and jack the price up.
