    • @InteractiveBiology

      For a science bowl at that level, it's best to study a broad range of topics that's covered at the middle school level, but you don't have to go extremely deep. I would start with basic concepts in areas of physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, the scientific method, environmental science, etc. Here's a great resource for that (the middle school section) - pulse.ly/lfrw2tmllo

    Fantastic video. I'm a 67 yo engineer... curious about how our body works. I just don't understand how a single cell can have the mechanics to attack bacteria... how can they sense... how can they move... how can they open themselves up to swallow a bacteria?????

    • @InteractiveBiology
      @InteractiveBiology  8 месяцев назад +1

      Man, that's the kind of stuff that makes life (and biology) amazing. To think that a cell that's only 10 to 30 micrometers in diameter can do all of that is mind-blowing. But they do possess all the machinery necessary to do it all. They can detect bacteria through their chemical signals, they can move towards the signals, they can change the shape and project parts of their cell membrane forward to move themselves towards the target and they can swallow up bacteria and destroy it because of the enzymes and chemicals that are inside the cell. And all of this is determined by the DNA in the cells that code for the specific proteins that are necessary to make all of that happen. If that's not AMAZING and AWE-INSPIRING, I don't know what is.

    • @EngRMP
      @EngRMP 8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for that reply. So, then here is what is even more amazing to me: if I understand this, they are doing all of that without any nervous system (brain). I would argue that they essentially have a fairly sophisticated level of consciousness (given sensor inputs, they are making complex decisions, and then acting on them). How can that be possible!?!?!?!?

    • @InteractiveBiology
      @InteractiveBiology  8 месяцев назад +1

      You ask some deep questions. I like it. Yes, they do this without any nervous system. However, I wouldn't call it a sophisticated level of consciousness. Consciousness implies awareness and intention, often involving some level of thought, reflection, or consideration.
      In the case of a cell, none of that is happening. Instead, it's more like pre-programmed responses to specific stimuli. It's kinda like a computer. Do they have a fairly sophisticated level of consciousness? No. However, they do respond based on specific situations.
      I see the cell more like that.

    • @EngRMP
      @EngRMP 8 месяцев назад +1

      I guess that it's the DNA that effectively serves as a pseudo-brain, controlling the sequence of operations (detect, target, attack). You have a great ability to describe these complex topics. I've subscribed and am excited about your future videos.@@InteractiveBiology

    If you could explain how close a match between two same blood groups have to be for a body to be elligible for a heart transplant I would be extatic ! My cardiologist just tells me to "WAIT" ...
    I'm Blood Group O+.
    As far as I have understood - The donor heart can only be of blood Group O in my case. O- or O+.
    THEN: Cyclosporine eliminates the distinction between Rhesus positive and Rhesus negative ?
    Cyclosporine also eliminate the immune system (leukocytes/WBC).
    I'm being told however that it is far more complex than simply a blood group match and cyclosporine to suppress the immune system.
    If you (or anyone else) reads this and could point me to some serious literature on the subject I would be forever grateful.
    I am graced with a Left Ventricular Assist Device which assists my deficient left Ventricule to circulate my blood. It is an amazing piece of equipment.

    You are good. Leviticus 17: 11 it reads: For the life of a creature is in the blood! And Romans 1: 20 For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. > You are such a fine example of God's creation!

      It takes very little effort to see that the Bible is extremely pro science and medicine, even being ahead of its time in some places. It even paraphrases the creation of the universe, the earth, and the evolution of man. Instead, many people choose to waste a whole lifetime misinterpreting it for the benefit of a few wealthy megalomaniacs.
