I'll still miss that burley bear chested man they call Steven Slate to tell me to buy Slate Digital Products. Man, can that guy sell me anything...He could even sell me sand in a desert. Anyways, happy to see VMR 3.0 upgrade! Congrast to the SlateDigital Team!
But FG Stress doesn't sound identical to the hardware imo. And the bass bump in VTM not entirely accurate, it's exaggerated & bloated. And the modelling in the VBC not accurate either imo.
The question is: if I update to VMR 3.0, my old sessions in Reaper will recognize and open the VMR that was in 2.0 version when I mixed at the time? All my tweaks will be there?
Just got an e-mail form Slate: "Thank you for contacting Slate Digital Support. Virtual Mix Rack 3.0 is completely backward compatible with sessions created with earlier versions of Virtual Mix Rack. Please also note that Virtual Mix Rack is not where your session parameters are stored, as your DAW session stores all plugin parameter changes and automation, even if the plugin is not installed. Note: While Virtual Mix Rack 3.0 is fully backward compatible, sessions that were modified with Virtual Mix Rack 3.0 can not be recalled if you revert to a previous version. This is because previous versions of Virtual Mix Rack are not aware of the new features in Virtual Mix Rack 3.0.
Only thing I wish you would add is a blank module that you could somehow insert a 3rd party plugin. Like use a mic model and preamp and then perhaps UA LA2A and then the Slate Pultec. Would be cool!
Why can’t I just buy it? I’m so sick of subscriptions, and I’m willing to bet that I’m not the only one. I’ve wanted to try vmr for so long but I have to buy an external ilok usb? Lame. Now you guys release a brand new version… and it’s a subscription exclusive?? Forgive me if I didn’t search through the website hard enough to find an option for total price, but even if that’s the case… it shouldn’t be that difficult! You guys are missing out on willing customers for what? 🙄
@@HITMAN1er yes Ive seen that, I really just wish they would put it all together and stop making the experience harder than it needs to be. My problem is that slate seems to have no idea what ease of access means. I value an easy experience and theirs is not one. Not even so much as a slightly discounted bundle for all the modules is ridiculous for a company like theirs.
@@coleb2086 I couldn't agree more. I hate the subscription non-stop payments. While I understand some people prefer that, I don't. Studio One 7 started that and I know the group of people that I work around all refuse to go that route. It's a shame that a person can't buy products out right but they want that monthly payment from everyone. Thank you for your view on this subject, it's nice to know we're not the only ones who are not happy with this method of payment. Have a great day my friend. Take care and may God bless 🙏✝️🙏
I think you can actually buy licenses for each module. TBH, I understand your frustration but I think the All Access Pass purchased annually is worth it every single year based on how much they are adding into it.
Pretty underwhelming update :/ Clearly many were requesting standalone versions, you didnt listen :/ Seems more like a 2.1, nothing of interest here to me personally unfortunately :/ big missed opportunity imho
One of the things I wish you all would have done is to give us the ability to use the plugins outside of the rack. As individual independent plugins in the mix session.
@axelfoley1768 it creates CPU loading problems when loading multiple VMRs on the same chain. Like using the gate from the VMR but you didn't want to use any of the VMR's eqs after that gate, you wanted a plugin like the pro q, but then you wanted to use one of the compressors that is in the VMR after the pro q. So you would have to load another VMR again after that EQ so you could use the compressor. Now you have two VMR racks on the same chain which can start taxing your computer CPU. Especially if you have to do this on multiple tracks. The CPU load will be significantly cut down if you have the option to use VMR plugs outside of the rack, this creates additional flexibility and better CPU management.
@@Trinison7 damn straight. Yeah, cut-down on unnecessary CPU loads. Quite clumsy. BTW, though I have lots of (not all) Slate's plugins, I find some of them not the best out there.
@axelfoley1768 it's always a taste thing. The one thing I would say about the VMR it's over sampling is pretty good. I don't know if you've seen that but you can oversample on the VMR. And it makes the plugs in the VMR sound significantly better. Of course it will tax your CPU more. But if you're using something like Appleton live. When it's time to bounce your mix. I would advise you use the oversample all button on your VMR. Which would then oversample any VMR instance in your mix. The CPU processing would be extremely high but it would still bounce the mix.
@@Trinison7 good tip. You on it. 👍 I didn't know he offered oversampling. Will come in handy. Without oversampling it's like the plugins are on low-cpu mode by default, so not the best performance
Thank you for specifying you don't need to be online to open the plugin, I use the VMR frequently when tracking on my main computer but prefer to keep the wifi off.
Happy to see this updated! Resizeable GUI’s and external sidechain are very welcome. Congrats on the update. Can’t help but feel the GUI has got progressively more and more cluttered since the original version. I know plenty have asked for individual plugins for years, but I’d really love that as an option, just so there is less redundant features that I’ll never use getting in the way. Dealing with multiple sidechains, automation, and combining with other plugins becomes simpler too.
Thanks! We’re always listening to what our users want and working on ways to take your workflow to the next level. Some requests will be addressed later in 2025!
Nice you put order in preset list and made a better workflow, I like it, spected something like more analog emulation modules and more more for mastering. Maybe later you have more news
This addresses some of the basic flaws in VMR 2, namely the lack of side chaining and the paucity of presets. The former is a purely functional element whose omission made using VMR largely pointless in certain cases, while the latter really made getting to grips with the sheer number of units and options available. The number of times an old preset would simply load units with a ‘default’ setting and no unit specific presets was considerable and hugely unhelpful. So a lot more incentive to use it and it’s lovely that it’s backwards compatible.
I’ve already bought the vmr rack why do I need to subscribe for a whole year to get vmr3. It’s like a hostage situation innit?I prefer buying the plugin outright thanks.if you don’t want to give the free update then at least give us to option to buy the upgrade or update
Very cool, not sure if it's a glitch or needs to be updated but none of the presets load when you click on it it just stays on the preset browser menu, anyone else having the same issue?
I'm scared to update my VMR because in the past when I have updated, it's defaulted all instances of it in my previous projects making all of the projects unusable. Will this happen again if I update?
You may need to hit up support if you're experiencing long loading times. The initial instance of VMR will always take a little longer to load than other instances but it wouldn't be a very noticeable amount.
I like the idea of the macros. I think that is the downside to the waves one nobe plugins. It’s great for simplicity but it’s cool to alter the details. I like the VMR and the VMS.
