Emperor Wilhelm of Germany

Was a true fighting man
Hurraah hurah hu' ha' hey

So the melody and lyrics are pretty simple, did not find a wikipedia article on the subject but I suppose it was composed by some jaeger wich was sent to Germany to recieve military training in order to fight in Finland for independence. Since the communist Russia did not fight the germans, rather they fought the white army of Tsarist Russia, it's wrong to assume this is an anti communist song. Actually when we talk about Finland in 1917, it's one of the most difficult subjects politically there is in Finnish history. You see, Jaeger movement was started in 1914 and the majority of finnish politicians were socialist. They wanted to get out of Tsarist russia in order to better working class condition. I suppose all of the Jaegers sent to germany were kinda right wing, since most of them joined the Finnish white army - a couple did join reds though. However when there was a Russian revolution, there was also re-election in Finland which resulted in a right wing parliment. They were before the war a bit hesitant to leave Tsarist Russia since it could have led in a Red Finland. Now however there was no doubt Finnish right wing elite wanted to get out of Russia since it was turning Communist. Social democrats instead wanted to stay as a part of revolutionary Russia. Finns wanted a German prince as their king, yes Finns wanted to become a monarcy, but due to result of the war it was practically and ideally impossible to get an empereror from defeated Germany. The compromise was to have a strong president with a lot of power.
Id say it would be Fighting Hero not Fighting Man as the direct translation for "Sankari" is "Hero".
@@JustMaxim37 Yeah, I was wondering how I should translate due to not so heroic connotations the word actually has, at least to me. The world wouldn't translate well in my min to a professional soldeir, but more like a Dog of war or something like that. I mean "tappelusankari" translates literally to a fighting hero, but in Finland if you say a "tappelusankari", the first connotation brings you to a bar fight, where resiliense and tenacity is the key, not tactical manouvers and strategic plans. Don't know what the writer wanted to deliver though, but I tried to be loyal to the mood of the song, however yes, the literal translation is A fighting hero
in other words, they respectfully singing "the balls on this man" with enormous proudness. this tune is epic it summons legendary energy
Most of the jaegers were right-wing nationalists of some description, but a few of them indeed did have left-wing economic and social wievs. Independence was what they all were striving for regardless of differences.
The jaegers themselves were not always by any means as german-minded as some conservatives involved in Finnish politics. Many of them held high ideals of establishing a greater Finland which originally was though to have included Estonia as well as Karelia, the latter of which was mostly Russian territory obviously but the former was considered to be in the German sphere of influence. These ideas were thought of even before the actual independence of Finland and were inspired by Finnic nationalism.
These people were inspired more by ideals rather than balance of power politics, certainly.
The germans fought against the bolsheviks and joined in some occasions even the white from Russia, but I guess this song was written, because Wilhelm was a strong advocate of Finnish independence and sent equipment, 14.000 german soldiers and trained Finns to fight for finnish independence.
The german troops basically captured Helsinki.
In treuem Gedenken an unseren geliebten Kaiser Wilhelm II !

I'm surprised this hasn't been taken down by RUclips they've already deleted or restricted about 10 other videos that are just this song, because it is "offensive"
@Munuc Mann It may be a wise strategy to not give them too much information.
Does comments of the video affect what is seen as offensive?
@Um Nome Aleatório You get like from me. Great comment👍
@Um Nome Aleatório if you're referring to Oi Šermukšnio (the Lithuanian song), it doesn't insult the Swedes in any way, it even calls them brave, and fish-eater is just the archaic word for Swede. Just clearing things up.

@caiuscosades auttoiko saksa talvisodassa?

jokes on them as the germans supported the bolsehviks
alexg4711 supported bolsheviks In Russia not finland
You mean they used them to destabilize Russia. Divide and conquer.
Herbert Waller
Well, it is not really clear to what extent they were supported. It is clear though that Lenin, as well as other Bolshevik and non-Bolshevik politicians, were allowed to travel back to Russia from Switzerland, where they had been exiled to, through Germany. Some say they were supported greatly and others say they weren‘t.
Germany supported many, mainly nationalist groups in Russia during the war though to make the Russian Empire weaker. One of these groups was the Finnish one, which also got trained by Germans if I recall correctly.
The German role in the rise of Bolshevism in Russia was possibly insignificant and passive, while they played an active role in the creation of a Finnish state. By the way, supporting nationalist groups would‘ve served German interests more than a Bolshevik empire, since the Germans even fought against it in WW1 and were supported by and cooperated with local nationalists.
its moltkes fault thats why they need lenin to destabilize russia and even the whole europe
if moltke listened to wilhelm ii europe is a better place now
