Thanks for your explanation on the difference between bipolar and ADHD. I might need to learn it by heart so I can explain to others! I’m diagnosed with both, and your explanation is bang on when it comes to my experience, which is further confirmation for me that I do in fact have both. Just to add: my hypomanic episodes are distinctly different from the hyperactivity, or any ‘ups’ or impulsivity that come with my ADHD. Great explanation, thank you.

This was a great lecture! Thank you! I would greatly appreciate it if you could list the resources Dr. Cerulli mentioned in her talk near the end of the lecture.

Can I ask a question? I'll probably never get a response from the channel but maybe someone can refer me to something/someone that answers it.
Anyway, here it is: can a boy predominantly hyperactive or combined symptoms move towards predominantly inattentive symptoms in their teenage and adult years? I mean this aside from how the (some of the) symptoms start getting muted/masked as the child ages/goes into adulthood.

The reasons complicated but basically there are two gene clusters responsible for ADHD. The first appear to cause ADHD and the second appear to maintain the diagnosis. In the absence of the second cluster the diagnosis improves as one ages. The improvement in that scenario is primarily from hyperactivity resolving and not as much as from inattention doing so. The mechanism behind this appears to be related to brain maturation. One specific mechanism may be myelination of neurons associated with ADHD. Myelination is the process by which the 'insulation' on the neurons is laid. This increases the pace at which neurons conduct their pulses and hence makes the action of them faster. Hope this was helpful.

You're lucky you're getting ssi. (I'm guessing that's what you meant by SSA) Don't give up just keep going to different drs. My nephew cannot get ssi no matter how hard he tries. I've been trying to help. They're on their 4th appeal now.

@@dianecelento4974 thank youfor your reply ...but I'm NOT getting SSI...I was awarded..but it stopped a month later....🤔and cannot get straight answers from local ssa office.
Huge problem with state vs. Fed.....ALL fed says yes, state denies...🤔😑that my concurrent awards exist 🙄 and they WILL NOT listen..over a decade fighting for my benefits & income the best way I can...
      *I cannot get help 😫

@@lisawhitehall1870 I'm in Ca. If you get cash aid and food stamps, there are advocates at the welfare office who will help you apply for ssi and give you advice to help you qualify for ssi. Maybe your state offers the same thing.

    Aid the adhd
    Autism gets worse
    Manage the autism
Become drained and adhd meds don't work,
Cant verbalize issues without sounding uninformed.
Cant have a discussion on proper procedure because words drop off.
    Go off meds,
Out of the routine and now very difficult habitual stimulation.
    Wait a week,
    Level out.
    Adhd in full swing,
    Forget about the other issues.
    Scrape by.
