Audrey Totter was total class. I have corresponded with her a little, and she was such a lovely, warm, and interesting lady. She was special. Thank you so much for the clip.
I have a notion to second that emotion ! I greatly admire this lady ! How wonderful that she had such a happy & fufilling marriage ! Such a wonderfully heartwarming interview ! :-)
She was a classic actress of the Silver Screen. So much talent on display. She used so many different clues to the characters she was portraying. A glance, a raised eyebrow, a smile ... slowly and slyly placed. Or a large smile finished with a laugh. She had it all. Her voice could purr or slide out like a sharp cutting dirk. The character was wholesome or scheming. She enhanced the other actors portrayals. A team player if ever there was one. Totally unselfish. Class ... right.
Audrey Totter was such a class act. I know, she was a cousin of mine. This had to have been filmed in 1997, since she refers to her late husband. He passed in 1995.
the image of Ms. Totter, as the wife of fighter Robert Ryan, stirring a can of soup on a hot plate in their shabby hotel room while agonizing over her fears for what might happen to him during his fight is very powerful. The film, "The Setup" is terrific
What a lovely interview! Audrey had such class. I received a few letters from her. She was so kind, and she was a wonderful, talented actress. Thank you for the upload.
I always liked Ms Totter's performances & thought she was one lovely lady. How wonderfully heartwarming to find out she was a kind wonderful lady offscreen too ! :-)
Heavens to Murgatroid ! Being a huge fan of the late great Ms Totter, I enjoyed this interview VERY much ! What a classy lady ! So pretty, so talented, so intelligent, so kind, so nice, so sweet, so funny....I could go on & on ! Thank you so much for uploading ! You've MADE my day, my week & my weekend !! :-)
This is my first time watching a Skip E. Lowe interview and within a minute, I realized Lowe must have been Martin Short's inspiration for his wonderful Jimminy Glick character. I read comments below and that was confirmed. I'm watching 'Lady in the Lake' and that is what brought me to this interview. What a wonderful discovery. I'll be searching for more Skip E. Lowe interviews.
Welcome. I'm glad you've found him. Subscribe to my channel and you'll see them all, direct from Skip E's personal library. People make fun of him, but you can tell that most of the stars he interviews seem to be enjoying themselves and they wouldn't have ever been on TV any other way.
I enjoyed seeing Audrey, she was always a favorite of mine. She comes across as a classy, sweet, charming and considerate lady. The interviewer, one Skip E. Lowe, however, is quite possibly the single worst interviewer I've ever seen. He kept interrupting her, he got the names of a lot of her films wrong, asked her stupid questions, and generally hadn't the slightest idea of what the hell he was doing. He seemed to talk just to hear himself talk. And he had this incredibly annoying habit of using her full name when talking to her: "Tell me, Audrey Totter, what ws your favorite film?" "Who did Audrey Totter like working with most of all?" "Tell me about Louis B. Mayer, Audlrey Totter". You just wanted to yell, "For Christ's sake, shut up and let her talk!" Too bad she didn't have an interviewer who did hishomework, it would have been a much more informative interviewe.
Well said and well put, Rick ! I love all the wonderful guests Skip had from Hollywood's Golden Age. But yes, Skip was a horrible interviewer ! I can't remember ever seeing someone so clueless & full of himself. He constantly interrupted his guests.....my gosh, so often that I want to reach into the screen & slap him silly ! He absolutely drives me up the wall ! But of course his enthusiasm can be infectious. I do admire that quality of his. Problem was, he needed to rein it in & rarely did.
She is wonderful! I love her work! Interviewer is gross and keeps interrupting her. Hush up guy! I love what she says about appreciating her time in the business, when they didn't roll around in bed and didn't use the 4 letter word! AMEN to that!
Yeah, he's a bit much. But, he has some wonderful guests, like the great Audrey Totter. He also had Anita O'Day on, among others. It's worth this guy's annoying manner, to get to see these legends. At least he has good taste, in guests. Lol.
That’s the first thing I thought after his first question. He cut her off before she could even finish ! Listen to your guest and stop interrupting her, geez!
I loved everything Audrey Totter did. She was a phenomenal actress, with a very wide range of expression, animation and depth. Unfortunately, Skip E. Lowe barely lets Audrey get a word in edge-wise in this interview. A good interviewer knows when to ask a question, and then shut up. Skip is not one of those interviewers.
Oh my god. I thought about Jiminy immediately. Glad I'm not the only one. There is NO QUESTION this dude is some sort of loose inspiration for Mr. Short. And it is so hard to watch him blowing this golden opportunity. Knowing Mrs. Totter, I'm kind of surprised she tolerated Lowe's interruptions and abrupt changes before she could properly respond. My god. This man got to meet so many people I would give a testicle to sit down and gab with and he just did no research, no editing, no anything besides winging it. Sad. Maybe this experience is why Mrs. Totter didn't do a lot of press later in her life. You'd think somebody on her "team" would've looked him up before agreeing to let him interview her. But yeah: Skip E. Lowe was born to be made into a farcical character.
Great to see the great and largely unheralded Audrey Totter at a later stage in her life (1997), but Skip only made it to local LA cable for a reason. He never let anyone finish their sentence if he could possibly help it. And I thought Charlie Rose was the king of interrupterviewers. And she's so gracious. Painful.
This guy is a total creep interviewing a great noir great! If she wasn't thrust into the 80's douche bag (cable tv) scene by agents that didn't care for her at all this interview would never had been recorded. I hate that this horrible little man talked over her and put words in her mouth. The man has no interview skills and how he got this fantastic opportunity is beyond me! He gave some jerk in the biz what they wanted..... Audrey was too kind. And, I mean too kind! RIP Audrey, You were awesome long before Hollywood publically dragged itself into the dirt! Love you always and will always watch your films!
I have to speak in defense of Skip: I've been watching these videos for a long time and Skip has people on that are classic character actors, people you never would have seen anywhere else. He was doing these shows on the cheap, he wasn't paid , his staff were amateurs, he had to do his own research, from books, there was no internet, so get off his back. He had to pay for the tape, which is why he interrupts to move things along, he only had so much time. Oh , and it's not a genius observation to notice the similarity between Skip and Jiminey Glick, every other poster says it. I've seen interviewers today who interrupt and get things wrong and people love them. If you don't like the guy don't watch and get over yourself. Seeing these character actors is a great thing and Hollywood history.
Sad but true. I only watch these videos for the wonderful names of the past he would have. It takes all my patience to put up with Skip. I am so happy to hear Audrey had such a long & happy marriage. In this interview, Skip is getting more of his facts wrong than usual. You'd think he would have spent more time doing his homework. And as you pointed out, his questions not only were all over the place but his constant interruptions are maddening. He rarely lets a guest finish a story !! :-(
This interviewer disappointed me. Far too many questions fired at Ms. Totter in staccato fashion and not letting Ms. Totter completely finish her response. When interviewing or interrogating for that matter; the word selection is important whether it's a closed or an open question. If the interviewer says. "Tell me" it comes out as an order. The interviewee feels like they're under attack and tends to clam up. Better to say, "Please share with us what it was like during that time, say for instance in the commissary. Who did you see?" After her reply, "We often when we see an acquaintance in an eatery get called over and asked to sit down. Ever happen to you?" Then wait for the response and if positive either ask for more information or kindly change the direction of the interview. Johnny Carson was a great interviewer.
Skip clearly knows nothing about her films, and one can tell has never actually seen them. He is merely reading titles, and then asking who was her leading man,. And then trying to get her to talk about him. It's very repetitious.
Can't stand that snippy litte Skip Lowe, terrible interviewer. However, Audrey Totter was a wonderful actress, so unspoiled and natural. Which seemed in opposition to her mysterious allure and sultry acting in some of her films. And, she had the figure to back all that up. This all adds up to a surprising and refreshing performer I never fail to enjoy watching.
Omg this interviewer stinks. If you’re going to ask a question, let your guest finish answering your question! A lot of good information was not provided cause this guy kept interrupting
This guy is the worst interviewer I've ever heard! He talks too much, too fast, doesn't listen, and interrupts. He spoils this interview. He's more interested in hearing himself than what she has to say.

Poor Audrey...to be saddled with such an overbearing obnoxious interviewer, who wont STFU, talks about himself and hasnt done his research !

I just saw Totter in Lady in the Lake. That dame was wickedly hot! Lascivious and luscious!
I agree
She was kind of a sex symbol type. A 'B' version of Lana Turner. Aging sucks, she is quite another womsn here being interviewed by this putz.
Watching now!
Facts she was sexy Ash!!!😉
She was no Hope Emerson but Audrey was indeed one fetching lass ! :-)
She has a valid point times have changed for sure but it appears she hasn’t changed true gem of the golden age of Hollywood. R.I.P love one .
Terrific interview Thanks Skip. Well done. Audrey tremendous. Brought me much joy.
Many thanks Alan, these are rare gems.
So true ! They indeed are gems ! :-)
Jiminy Glick knocked this interview out of the park!
Ms Totter was the definition of 'woman'. And what an actress !!
This is my first time watching a Skip E. Lowe interview and within a minute, I realized Lowe must have been Martin Short's inspiration for his wonderful Jimminy Glick character. Me too that was a great movie 🎬
Jiminy Glick, yes! this guy is soannoying but not as fat.
constantly baffled by mr lowe's interview style....
awesome icons he got to come on these shows tho: gr8 stories.

agreed! the questions that went unasked - ! she's such an enigmatic actress. all to the good.
What a wonderful woman and a phenomenal actress! Love her ❤
got a chance as her caregiver in her remaining days in a nursing home.
She is wonderful! I love her work! Interviewer is gross and keeps interrupting her. Hush up guy! I love what she says about appreciating her time in the business, when they didn't roll around in bed and didn't use the 4 letter word! AMEN to that!
I agree Skip is overbearing but without him we wouldn’t have all the wonderful moments with stars of the golden era!❤
The guests are great, but this guy is a total CREEP and a very, very poor interviewer. Give your guests a chance to answer a question once in awhile.
He’s very annoying! She could have been a leading actor!

Martin Short's inspiration for "Jiminy Glick"? Audrey was so very talented and gracious.

@@collinmichaelkahn3918 Martin Short has actually said on several occasions that Skip was the inspiration for Jiminy.

This show was filmed in 1997.
Thank you for the year. I was wondering about that.
No wonder they called him Skip.
Guy should have come with an "off" switch.
Ha ! That's rich ! But yet so very true !!

totally agree!!!!
on top of that, it feels like he's 'quizzing' her
She has good cheekbones, lovely lady!
The leading lady of Cimmarron City and Our Man Higgins TV shows.
Skip isn't an interviewer so much as an interrupter.
Yes...yes...a thousand times yes !!
So hyper he ought to have been called "Skip To My Lou"
Skip, terrible. Audrey, fantastic.
You speak the truth, Kemo Sabe !! :-)
This interviewer disappointed me. Far too many questions fired at Ms. Totter in staccato fashion and not letting Ms. Totter completely finish her response.

Johnny Carson was a great interviewer.
He never mention "The Unsuspected" once!!!!!!!! Arrrggh!!!!!
Thanks for mentioning the movie 'The Unsuspecting '( 1947 ) .
It's one of my favourite movies, Claude Rains is so well cast as the villain!!
@@peterbrown3944 He always was. A real gem of a film, and Director Michael Curiz at his peak.
@@peterbrown3944 How right you are ! I look forward to watching it this coming weekend on TCM's "Noir Alley" program.

Robert Walker in 1945 The Sailor Takes a Wife.
I only made it through7 minutes. I can't stand an interviewer who would rather hear himself talk.
Who's the goofy kid without the shirt in the opening? It looks like a young Mickey Rooney..
Mickey as Puck from A Mid Summer Night's Dream
I think that's Skip Lowe. He was a child actor. Not a successful one but still.
It was.
Yes. That is a young Mickey Rooney & the film is 1935's "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
