I use this system to this day. I have a total of 26 instruments connected to the GPIB bus, a bit more than spec but everything still works as long as I don't have too many dead instruments. I have noticed however that some instruments are more sensitive than others when it comes to the amount of dead instruments on the GPIB bus. Most of what I have are HP instruments, however I do have a Tektronix 2430A digital oscilloscope. It works great and communicates flawlessly with a HP 2225A printer and with the HP 7470A 7475A plotters.

I literally still use the gpib (ieee488) standard every day at work. Not as outdated as peoples might think. Especially in the world of remote controlled instruments.
