So many RUclips Channels are representing these basic techniques wrong....It's good to see a presenter demonstrate the correct meaning and application of Scumbling and Glazing. Thank you.

Thank you, I do this with the dry brush technique in watercolor with guache. I'll try this with my acrylic and oils 😊

The explanation was fine, as well as the shots of how to do it. Once it was applied, I wanted to see the result from farther away to see how in looking at it, my eyes blend it. The shots never backed off to show the effect if you were standing a typical distance looking at a painting.

I think you could call scumbling over no color underneath "dragging.' Scumbling is dragging paint unevenly across a previous layer.
So, basically: all scumbling is dragging, but not all dragging is scumbling!

Can you do videos on painting a gradient? I made a painting for a friend (my first painting that I have even done in full on canvas so I consider it my very first real painting) and the background had a gradient from black at the edges on the top, left and right sides, to a light gray at the center of the bottom. I have to say it was one of the hardest things I have ever tried to figure out. I am happy with how it turned out, but honestly, the gradient is not even close to how I wanted it.

For sure! I’m doing the ways to apply paint first, then I’ll get into gradients and color theory! Thanks for watching.

So clearly explained thanks. I’m not a painter; I’m a painting liker. I didn’t know what the word meant at all and found your video after reading about Monet’s rocks at low tide Pourville described as ‘scumbled rocks in the foreground. . .’
