China's New Nuclear Battery - 50 Years Long Lasting Betavoltaic Power Source

A betavoltaic battery, also known as a betavoltaic cell or device, is a nuclear battery that generates electricity from beta particles, or electrons emitted from a radioactive source. Betavoltaic batteries use a semiconductor method of charge collection and have been studied since the 1950s. They can be made to be very small, reliable, and durable.
Direct conversion betavoltaics are some of the most efficient nuclear batteries on the market because the beta particle decay is more effectively converted into usable electrical power than it is with other particles. Some of the radioisotopes used in betavoltaic batteries include: Sr, Y, Cs, Pm, H.
Betavoltaic devices were invented in the 1970s and were used in some pacemakers, but were phased out as cheaper lithium batteries were developed.
Betavolt, a Chinese startup, has announced that it has developed a battery capable of powering smartphones for 50 years without requiring recharging. The battery, called BV100, is smaller than a coin and contains a radioactive isotope of nickel that decays into copper and supplies power to a device. Betavolt plans to produce a battery with 1 watt of power by 2025.
