Hi Stephen, we normally do, we’ve deleted a few nasty comments, but with this one being so personal and sexist, we felt we had to shut it down, but we’ve left the comment visible so other people can see what you so perfectly describe as emotionally stunted people, whereabouts in Scotland are you? Rob used to live in Shetland
Hi guys, I'm from Elgin, in the North-east, I've only been to Shetland once, many years ago, I've been railway modelling for over 40years, (I've never got it right yet, but we live in hope), I work in OO, and TT120 scales (mainly German), but everything's been on hold, since the house move, hopefully it won't be too long before I get started again, anyway, take care, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.
Keep going, please! I am basically at the same stage as You guys, building and figuring out a layout!🤘 I am looking into using cardboard for stonewalling, tunnel lining etc...
After watching a few of your videos I’ve subbed I think the banter between you guys is great. Shame to hear about the nasty comments, jealousy is an ugly thing.
It might sound Cliche, but comments like this really do mean a lot to us, the support has been incredible, so many genuine lovely people out there like yourself, makes us ignore the idiots, so thank you for taking the time to reply, really is nice

🇺🇦 Hi Grace and Rob. All takes time. Only thing you use differently to myself is the glue. I use copydex for the tracks. Wall looks fine think it's to scale, not to worry if it's a bit out. Not got an elevated section on my layout. Should have considered it. Well done guys. DELPH JUNCTION
Yes mate, just funds are a little tight at the moment, before we can order anything else, we’re just using what’s to hand at the moment, but we are taking that on board as usual, I love the elevated areas, and now considering a 3rd elevation for the church and possible a castle too
Don't care what others think about your channel. There is nothing wrong with how you dress. There will always be people who have something to complain about. It's really nice to see the whole process of building. Ps: love your accent Grace 😊
Thank you Roland, exactly our point, we’re not changing for anyone 😃 as for the accent thanks.. not sure Rob always agrees when it’s constant ear ringing for him 🤣🤣
Folks, just carry on doing what you are doing it is great. Normal is the word you are great, warm, wonderful people so as I said in the live earlier ignore the haters and carry on being yourselves.
Hey buddy, thank you for your support, we do appreciate it, we normally ignore it, but this one was a bit too personal and sexist, not just about Grace but about women hobbyists in general, Grace is a very capable lady, and she does ground me, puts up with my mental health struggles etc, she’s an amazing lady, and so are others in this hobby, the fact that this guy is literally staring at certain female parts doesn’t bother either of us in the slightest tho, if it offends people, then that is their problem not ours, and trust me, we will never change lol
Hi, I recently joined your channel, excellent work and channel. I am at the beginning of my layout build, which is taking me a very long time. I look to channels like yours on how to do things, I lack imagination on what to put, and where to put it.
Hi buddy, ours has taken more than 3 months to get this far, so don’t pressure yourself, it’s better to go slower, as for imagination, just go with what you feel, you can always correct it later, like we’ve been told, plans get changed all the time, ours have, best of luck with yours as well
I didn't know Rob had a stuttering problem until he was asked about the possibility of HIM wearing a bikini! :D Stupid comments are like mosquitos. I just block the jerk and move on. The clearance issue illustrates why an honest, novice channel like yours is important to the community and also interesting. Yall that bridge looks outstanding- that will be quite a scene there :)
To be fair i do genuinely have a stutter some times, but yeah that really put me in the moment didn’t it 🤣🤣🤣 and no, there is zero chance of me being in anything ending with kini lol And yes that’s why genuinely love the feedback etc, we literally could not move forward without it
@@RGJTrains by the way Rob, maybe I missed it but I don't remember you guys talking about a "backdrop" or "backscene" yet. I say this because I wonder if it is incorporated into your plans now.
Hey mystic. The backdrop will probably go down the same time as the furthest scenery, as will be no chance once things start building. I’m yet to decide if I’m going to paint it myself or get it elsewhere, don’t worry about missing it, rob would miss his own head if it wasn’t attached. 😂
I am going to get shot for this, but i think it’s called a buck controller, basically each one has a 12v input, and we can vary the output for anything up to 12v for scenic lighting, signals etc
It looks like the loco is slightly struggling to go up the incline. Is it the actual loco that is a bit tired or id that a section of the layout that is further away from the "dropper" where you connect the track to the power supply ? You may want to add additional droppers (track connections) along the way, that will provide an even power distribution across the entire layout and will help with stabilising the train speed all around the track. Expecially if you ever plan to go digital, the importance of having a dropper every x feet (in my case x=3..5) is even higher. Also if you put point in, it is always wise to plan a dropper before and after the actual point to ensure power continuity. How many do you have in there now ?
She’s not struggling, she has flown up before to the point I’ve had to turn the power down, it is purely an electrical issue, that I will be addressing. Once I learn how to solder track. Thank you for the suggestion and feedback.
If its 4mm thick then that works out to be a foot. 6mm will be 18inches, a stone wayy can be anything up to two feet thick, I would suggest that if its a retaining wall for a railway it should be around two feet thick minimum which is 8mm on the layout. Hope that makes sense, regards, Geoff
Really helpful to know Geoff, and yes we would not have been able to put that in if we had left the inner track where it was, makes perfect sense buddy thank you
As purely a retaining wall I would agree but if the incline was “built” out of stone totally it could be narrower but, the side of the incline would be wider at the base than at the top rather than a vertical wall. Just thought and feel free to ignore it. I’m sure it will look good when it’s finished.
@@stevenmoran4060 very true Steven, prototypically that’s how they are and I agree it would be aesthetically pleasing to see as well, however and as I was initially trying to explain was the scale and how thick the wall should be especially where it is visible. I have the same issue on my layout on a part I have not yet finished because I cannot decide the best way of doing it.
Extremely valid points on all sides, rob didn’t actually think about the wall being thicker at the base so certainly something we will be considering. Thank you both.
Although you can sit on the baseboard at the moment it will be more difficult to reach once you have scenario etc may be an idea to create an access hatch with scenery on which you can open up to gain access into the corner
@@RGJTrains I was talking about a much larger panel so that you can actually stand up and reach around this will allow you work on the scenery, Carr out any repairs etc not just to retrieve a train
@@garylong7599 Yes with you now, sadly we don’t really have the space to do something like that, most things can be reached from the floor anyway, and hopefully we will only need to reach for a derailment, thanks for the tip tho, we will take it forward
Hi, have watched a few of your videos but not all so apologies if this has been discussed already Are you considering using sidings, passing lines or thinking of allowing trains to swap from one track to another, if so you would probably want to add points which would mean amending the current track I'm also at the early stages of building a layout and have managed to get all the track down, lots of wiring, soldering and testing necessary so mistakes are a variable constant (any mathematicians out there) Wish you both lots of success and remember if things aren't quite going to plan don't be afraid to take a break from the railway, time is your friend
The area of the track that i could put points down isn’t currently fixed so hopefully would just need addition rather than amending hopefully, Thanks for watching our videos though and keep the hints etc coming please it really does help :)
The curve on that incline is tight. So, I would check clearence between edge of outer rail and upper vertical corner of incline for bogie coaches before modelling stone walls lest coaches hit the walls going around the curve.
We’ve heard about this but unfortunately not in the budget current and only have a small bit left to glue but will certainly think of it in future. Thank you
Hi guys, sadly, you (and all the others making videos on RUclips) are in the line of fire for all those idiot keyboard warriors who only want to spitefully criticise and make sexist comments. You have a unique channel and amusing method of presenting a fascinating and engaging hobby. None of us are experts (although we might think we are) and we all make mistakes, it’s part of the learning process. Keep it up! The excitement of getting that first train to run round the track is incredible and, no I am not weird. Model railways gave me an alternative to a stressful job. I am retired now and enjoying a quieter life with the added bonus of a fully supportive wife and a layout that is progressing nicely. The only problem I have now is trying to eradicate the thought of Rob in a lime green mankini sitting on your layout hoovering. Time to put the kettle on.
Yes completely agree we did expect a few comments but thought it was better to address that openly sexiest comment to show we don’t put up with them. We’ve always been honest on our Channel so that also includes that. We are loving the journey so far and if it was for this brilliant community that’s developed with our channel we wouldn’t be any where near where we are, or having to go back and fix mistakes later on! As for rob in a green mankini, I suppose we may have to agree to disagree 😂 however while you enjoy your brew il make sure no one else has to burn there eyes seeing it 😂 take care and thanks for your support 😊
Hi again, I forgot to mention, I nearly left because of stupid comments by Trolls about the way I talk. I have throat cancer and cannot help it, so I stuck my fingers up at them and now just ignore them. I think all your banter is fantastic, my sense of humour.
That’s just awful Simon it really is, that’s really spiteful, worse than ours in some senses, appearances, race creed, colour it doesn’t matter does it, people probably think i look a bit stupid because of dental problems i have, i am glad you’re enjoying the channel, means a lot to both of us, we’re a bit delayed this week because we’ve been working away so we’re playing catch-up before filming another episode, stay safe my friend and thank you
Scenery is a big problem if you don't address it early. I had to tear up track myself because I didn't leave room for the extra trestle width. It's coming along nicely though. Keep up the good work!
I wish I could be as far as a full loop. This is one thing I wanted to add to my previous comment. Wherever you need to do building alterations, you must contemplate doing it first. The whole reason my loop is not complete is that I need to still do the back board on the wall. And paint them. Paint goes everywhere. And I need to sit on the board to be able to reach. But soon…. So far so good. A brick is 110mm wide roughly. Double wall with mortar 250mm wide. 270mm with plaster. So a foot wide wall is close enough.
I’m sure you will get there, taken us 3 months to get this far, and still in testing, Grace with her size is perfect to go up on the board, i just keep hitting my head, my one suggestion to you would be as others suggested to me, cut manholes in if you have hard to reach places, makes it so much better to fiddle with things after scenics are in good luck with your layout, look forward to seeing jt
@@RGJTrains ruclips.net/video/97KecYllqKQ/видео.html Its a bit of a behemoth. I model large scale. So everything is enormous. That room is 34m by 8.5m. And I have a funny feeling its too small lol.
Sadly anyrail isn’t on mac but I’ve had a look at it on a friends pc and it’s not really something we would use, we love the dynamic fluidity even though it means breaking a few eggs so to speak, we’re ok with mistakes and showing that we’ve done them and correcting, the only thing it’s really cost is a bit of cork thankfully
Ah, the 'Oh rats!' moment, that painful reminder of 'No plan survives first contact with the baseboard' (with apologies to Helmuth von Moltke for pinching and modifying his words of wisdom). Could the lace curtain interfere with a train going up the incline? Where you took up the track under the 'farm', have you considered a short second radius to the left followed by a right-hand turnout for the loop but allow for a small siding?
Hi Don, sorry being a newbie at it, would you mind dropping a message to our facebook page or email explaining a little more, maybe with a screenshot of the track with it? if you have the time to do that it would be appreciated
@@RGJTrains Hi. I'm not on Facebook and I don't have your email. Pause your video beginning at 5:52. My thought was to put a left hand curve immediately after the power track (where Grace's left hand is) to take the track away from the wall then join, say, a right hand curve set of points from that curve and then complete the circuit. The points add interest and allow storage of rolling stock. Re DC or DCC, with a small number of trains and two tracks, the investment in DC is not, in my opinion, justified. Many modelers have large layouts with DC only - check out Yarslow. It's huge, 40+ trains and all DC.
Are you not putting a fiddle yard in you will just be running one train on each circuit which gets very boring after a time I had a small 3road one which got boring so have just increased it to 6roads each way it also depends on how much stock you have of course
With regards to the wall, if it looks ok go with it. Please be aware, the overhang of locos and coaches on the bend is most on the end. Check that your wall doesn't foul. Also, where are your points?
Sorry to hear you got some idiot trying to be like that glad you can stand up to them enjoying your videos as I am just starting a layout to and am learning lots watching thank you👍
@@RGJTrains Yea, the best way is still to ignore it. I like your way of doing things witch are way off from anyone else , that for sure. How often do you see anyone siting on the layout.
The trolls with bad comments can not do this. I have found they have no interest in model railways. Any comments on the way you dress, is unwanted and very petty. You have to hope they go away. Looks like the Class 58 is catching something coming off the bridge. It jumps a bit.

Hi Rob and Grace, good to see you making good progress, so sorry to you've been getting disrespectful comments, just ignore them, you guys are better than these emotionally stunted people,I, for one really enjoy your banter, and I think it's great when a couple can share a hobby, keep up the good work, take care, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.
@@stephencameron4032 Cheers mate, rob lived there for around 3 years and always talks about it, we love scotland in general it’s an amazing place
Keep going, please! I am basically at the same stage as You guys, building and figuring out a layout!🤘
I am looking into using cardboard for stonewalling, tunnel lining etc...
Yeah it’s something we have in mind also :)
You both are doing a good job with what you are trying to do. Keep up the good work
Thank you so much Geraint, appreciated. :)
Always satisfying to get the 1st engines running :)
It sure is didn’t think we would get this far to be honest, so pleased about it
@@RGJTrains it's all good progress so far and can already picture the verity of scenery you'll have on the layout from hills to water scenes.
Great fun guys
thank you sooo much
After watching a few of your videos I’ve subbed I think the banter between you guys is great.
@@RGJTrains I have my own channel and I know how much effort and hard work you have to put in to get the subscribers up, people don’t subscribe if your videos are not up to scratch, so goes to show your doing a grand job if your subs are on the rise.
I’ve subbed to yours too i think, will double check now, but yes we need to support each other, and Grace and i really are noobs and appreciate all the help
🇺🇦
Hi Grace and Rob.
All takes time.
Only thing you use differently to myself is the glue. I use copydex for the tracks.
Wall looks fine think it's to scale, not to worry if it's a bit out.
Not got an elevated section on my layout. Should have considered it.
Well done guys.
DELPH JUNCTION
Yes mate, just funds are a little tight at the moment, before we can order anything else, we’re just using what’s to hand at the moment, but we are taking that on board as usual,
I love the elevated areas, and now considering a 3rd elevation for the church and possible a castle too
You get subs by being good fun people. love you and great vids.......
Awww thanks Danielle, what a lovely thing to say
Good luck with your layout.
Thank you Geordie
All good fun, you have our support... not sure where you'll put a truss though! lol We shall see... ATB, Andy
I ain’t wearing a truss either 🤣🤣😂😂
Have you put droppers on the track for power ..??
sorting them out over the next couple of days, again thanks to suggestions by people like yourself, so thank you so much
Hi, I recently joined your channel, excellent work and channel. I am at the beginning of my layout build, which is taking me a very long time. I look to channels like yours on how to do things, I lack imagination on what to put, and where to put it.
Hi buddy, ours has taken more than 3 months to get this far, so don’t pressure yourself, it’s better to go slower, as for imagination, just go with what you feel, you can always correct it later, like we’ve been told, plans get changed all the time, ours have, best of luck with yours as well
Love the Track plan got enough room For a Rail yard. With the Track you have You can Run Every Engine in The modeling universe.
Yeah no doubt more things will change lol
That’s the Thing about Model Railroading.👍
I didn't know Rob had a stuttering problem until he was asked about the possibility of HIM wearing a bikini! :D Stupid comments are like mosquitos. I just block the jerk and move on. The clearance issue illustrates why an honest, novice channel like yours is important to the community and also interesting. Yall that bridge looks outstanding- that will be quite a scene there :)
To be fair i do genuinely have a stutter some times, but yeah that really put me in the moment didn’t it 🤣🤣🤣 and no, there is zero chance of me being in anything ending with kini lol
And yes that’s why genuinely love the feedback etc, we literally could not move forward without it
@@RGJTrains by the way Rob, maybe I missed it but I don't remember you guys talking about a "backdrop" or "backscene" yet.
Ignore the toxic let’s concentrate on getting the modelling. Love the rail modelling. Thanks
Hit the nail on the head buddy, thank you
What’s that under the bench next to your controller power supply or voltage readout?
Coming along nicely. Are you sticking DC or are you looking to switch to DCC?
Tim, we really don’t know at the moment, we’ve not ruled it out, but we want to get things running and see how it progresses but it does interest us
Although you can sit on the baseboard at the moment it will be more difficult to reach once you have scenario etc may be an idea to create an access hatch with scenery on which you can open up to gain access into the corner
Already done Gary on one of our earlier episodes, one in each corner, thankfully a tip from another subscriber like yourself
Hi, have watched a few of your videos but not all so apologies if this has been discussed already
Are you considering using sidings, passing lines or thinking of allowing trains to swap from one track to another, if so you would probably want to add points which would mean amending the current track
I'm also at the early stages of building a layout and have managed to get all the track down, lots of wiring, soldering and testing necessary so mistakes are a variable constant (any mathematicians out there)
Wish you both lots of success and remember if things aren't quite going to plan don't be afraid to take a break from the railway, time is your friend
Do you know what, something so basic, and i never even bloomin thought about it, thank you Eagles….that is REALLY helpful :)
Love your videos guys 👍👍 hope we don't see Rob in a mankini lol 😂
total ZERO chance of that 🤣🤣😂😂
Take Pride In What you guys Are Doing. You guys Are the Biggest crittics of your Layout remember that.
We always are Ellery, the biggest critics i mean, we have chopped and changed so much along the journey
Our Senses Tell us what looks good and What needs to change. That’s The Power of Model Railroading👍
Hi both, coming on nicely keep going. OO gauge is 4mm = 1 foot.regards, john.
Thanks John, we’re gonna do a few measurements on actual stone walls so it can be reasonably accurate
Hey guys, good work. I would use copydex it is very easy to remove.
We’ve heard about this but unfortunately not in the budget current and only have a small bit left to glue but will certainly think of it in future. Thank you
If your thinking about scenery have a look at Allan at Buckland junction videos
will do thanks for the advice
Thanks William, we don’t mind making the mistakes and we don’t mind airing them because it will show to everyone that they happen to all of us
I wish I could be as far as a full loop.
I’m sure you will get there, taken us 3 months to get this far, and still in testing, Grace with her size is perfect to go up on the board, i just keep hitting my head, my one suggestion to you would be as others suggested to me, cut manholes in if you have hard to reach places, makes it so much better to fiddle with things after scenics are in
good luck with your layout, look forward to seeing jt
@@RGJTrains ruclips.net/video/97KecYllqKQ/видео.html
Its a bit of a behemoth. I model large scale. So everything is enormous. That room is 34m by 8.5m. And I have a funny feeling its too small lol.
get yourself anyrail programme and design your layout so you can see clearances, its not hard to use, well worth it
Sadly anyrail isn’t on mac but I’ve had a look at it on a friends pc and it’s not really something we would use, we love the dynamic fluidity even though it means breaking a few eggs so to speak, we’re ok with mistakes and showing that we’ve done them and correcting, the only thing it’s really cost is a bit of cork thankfully
Why are you building two separate circuits if you link them it would be a lot better
No just staying with two separate for seepage functions and locos
Are you not putting a fiddle yard in you will just be running one train on each circuit which gets very boring after a time I had a small 3road one which got boring so have just increased it to 6roads each way it also depends on how much stock you have of course
Hi take a look at our latest episode
Hi Guys this hobby is for everyone not just men but women as well i hope you enjoy your railway
Thanks Alan, some do forget that and treat women as sexual objects instead
Hi guys, no such thing as stuffing up. I prefer to call it gaining experience 😃
Or “learning how not to do it” 🤣🤣
With regards to the wall, if it looks ok go with it. Please be aware, the overhang of locos and coaches on the bend is most on the end. Check that your wall doesn't foul. Also, where are your points?
Don’t worry we will be double, triple checking this time as for points we havnt quite decided yet but they will be coming off the inner loop.
Sorry to hear you got some idiot trying to be like that glad you can stand up to them enjoying your videos as I am just starting a layout to and am learning lots watching thank you👍
