Haha, yes - it was very tense in Shenyang airport for a while. When the cops 'tried' to reassure by saying "Don't worry, we'll look after you in the jail" it all seemed very real. Glad you enjoyed the review. We loved this one.

27:30 The boss's face 😂 Too funny. To be honest I didn't like any hot sauce especially Tabasco until I was in the military when I was in my 20's. Now I love anything with hot sauce. Tabasco is especially good in chili mac.
I was a relative latecomer to spice/heat. but made up for lost time with a vengeance :-) You're right, the Tabasco is perfect for the chilli mac. The acidity helps cut through the heaviness.

Wayne and Garth had red rope licorice in the roof of the car. I've never seen twizzlers as red rope before but I guess they could have done it for a movie. I like the Australian soft licorice better than twizzlers or red vines though. That jalapeno cheese spread is like currency when you have it in an MRE. Guys will trade an entire MRE for a pack of that stuff.
you can take knives just not in carry-on and you also have to let tsa know that you are transporting the knives I had to do this for my kitchen case as long as they know about it and its safely sealed it can be transported.
I should have declared them at the check-in counter. The knives were old and a gift from my father-in-law (they were his). I have a feeling they now grace the walls of the police station commander.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience in China. I was reading my China diary entries moments before watching this video. Although my nightmare in China did not involve an ornamental knife, let's just say I'm never going back there.
Might be the best looking menu I’ve ever seen and I watch mre review videos a lot. The portion size of the main is a bit small but apart from that this looks really decent
I'll be doing some more foreign rations in the near future. Some will no doubt have portable stoves to christen the new board. Just don't tell my Wife ;-)
Sadly, the airport police didn't give me any parting gifts, apart from a little PTSD :-) As for the easter egg, I'm still waiting to see if anyone figures it out.

Standing there with my Wife and 3 girls, clearly a family unit, it felt like we were dealing with NPCs in a video game. The heat just kept ratcheting up. Every time I started to get my phone out in the hope of firing off a few messages to let family know what was happening, I was told to put it away.
Hahahahaha, the one time they let us eat as much as we wanted in Army basic training, was chili mac, they the proceeded to quick time you to the gas chamber where you puked it all back up again, couldnt eat the stuff for years after that
Sounds traumatic! I had a friend as a kid who had access to unlimited marshmallow easter eggs. He did as kids do and ate nothing but those eggs all weekend. Even the smell of marshmallow makes him feel sick to this day.
Feels a lot shorter than 7 years, but the numbers don't lie. Work, kids... Covid turned everything upside down for a couple of years. But we're back, and glad you are too!

Was very intense at the time. We didn't feel truly out of the woods until our second flight took off from Beijing to Auckland.

I ate one of these once cold around 2009 in Louisiana helping clean up after a hurricane.
A nice ration to have whilst doing some amazing work for the community. Good on you.
