    I have watched no less than 15 videos on DIY low profile bed frames & headboards, this is the best one!

      I've watch these videos all the time when I'm bored. I agree this was a great one for beginners. SOmeone without any power tools could borrow a drill, buy a hand saw and build this in one afternoon. Thanks for leaving out your cousin's roommate's mix tape in the background. Thanks for showing the flaw of the curved wood and talking about using smaller pipes.

    Seth, I love you . My son helped me to build this bed and it is amazing. We are on the fluffy and robust side in size and we had to replace bed frames costing $100- $150 on 3 or 4 different occasions. We did this bed in 3 hours or less and it is very sturdy and better built than anything I can purchase at a store . Preparing to travel to another state to help my daughter build herself a bed. Clear and precise direction and measurements. I like it so much I'm going to build one for my room and attache my old headboard to it. Thanks again

    With us three (now with our growing baby) sleeping on our queen sized bed, our current metal bed frame already giving up and bed literally is "sunken" as what you'd see. If it's going to last for so many decades, our bed frame should be sturdy, and your diy bed frame is just exactly what i've been looking for! Others do not meet my custom need. Kudos man!

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  7 лет назад +1

      +Bushra Khan it depends on what type legs you use and where you buy the parts. If you go with wooden legs you can build this under $55. With the metal legs from online stores you can build this for around $120.

    • @hilairequinn4449
      @hilairequinn4449 7 лет назад +3

      the total cost for the frame not including the headboard was close to $300. we got everything from Home Depot and live in NH which tends to be a bit more expensive than other states. Worth every penny though; this bed ain't going nowhere! with some stain and wipe on poly, this thing looks more amazing than any other frame I have ever had.

    Just finished making our queen bed from scratch with the headboard. It was definitely a humbling experience (our first real furniture project) but we're super happy with how it came out. Thank you for your super comprehensive video. We learned a lot along the way.
    One suggestion I have for others, if you don't have a particularly strong drill or very good quality screws, it helps to pre-drill small holes (at least for the frame portion). We ended up getting a stripped screw stuck in our first move with the frame, and it was a huge pain to get it out. After pre-drilling, the rest of the assembly went smoothly.
    Started in the morning, finished before dinnertime (with breaks for beer and snacks haha). Thanks again!

    Very sturdy bed frame.. Although the metal nipple and flanges look nice for the supports, I would have spent almost $60 at menards just on just the supports! Instead I used the leftover 2x4s and screwed two 1ft 2x4s together to make cheaper supports. I had a total of 7 supports and it is a very solid build. I build this frame for a little over 100 including the headboard. I also sanded all the wood and added a "classic oak" stain which looks VERY NICE. Thanks for the video. Building this bed was a good idea because the cheapest queen size bed frame online was about $100 but very low quality.. When you build your own things you can insure quality and also potentially save money.

      @LandtoHouse  6 лет назад

      Those metal legs can be costly for sure! If you buy them on amazon you can get by with around $40. Some savings. Sanding is a great idea! Thank you for watching and I hope the frame lasts a lifetime.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  8 лет назад +8

      +Amanda Shears thank you. Most of my projects are rather simple like this. I feel that most people appreciate an easy bed to assemble. You can totally use taller pipe. Probably would not go much over 14 inches butt you might could go 18. I have just built a king size bed with half inch pipe instead of 1 inch pipe. It works very well

    • @LandtoHouse

      I do agree with pre drilling 100%. As for counter sinking the screws that does add a tough step for those without tools.

    • @nathan87
      @nathan87 5 лет назад +1

      @@LandtoHouse A countersink bit is a few dollars. Not really that big of a deal if you already have a drill! That said, for a simple construction like this, it's not as important as pre drilling. Heads will sink in by themselves, but not pre drilling could split the wood.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  5 лет назад +1

      Countersink looks good for sure. I have a lot of people that build this and borrow a drill. They have lowes make the cuts. So tools are at a minimum!

      +Alfred Wheeler yes indeed! In the king bed build I pre-drill all the holes to keep it from cracking. Thank you.!

      These look like the torx deck screws. If so they are self-drilling. I still pre-drill everything, just because, but you can get away with not doing it, with this type of screw.

    • @LandtoHouse

      +Beau Sizemore you are right. But I had a few boards too crack just a little bit that's why I pre drill also.

      +Scott Haun are you shopping at a big-box store Like Home Depot or Lowe's? This bed will be well over $200 if you shop there. I recommend doing an online search for the metal components.

      You're both nuts. Flanges alone at Home Depot cost $63, well short of $110. Throwing in the pipe still only brings it to $100. Total cost for everything but the screws is $168.

    • @jasonperez2850
      @jasonperez2850 6 лет назад

      Well as he mentions in the video- it's much more expensive at big box stores. After some digging I was able to find all the hardware for around $82 shipped. I don't know that I'll be at the $110 mark after buying the needed lumber and screws but the hardware was still quite a bit cheaper than Home Depot or Lowes. Thanks for the reply, Seth and great video.

The instructions were so clear, concise and Omy! :-)))))))) Just bought the place. Not thinking about moving, but I would think that stacking it alongside the mattress in the moving truck should be practically the same as putting the mattress in & the flanges look to be pretty well attached. Here we have plenty salvage & surplus for building supplies, I could probably find them for a very low price. Again, Thanks!

    This is a great video. I just finished building one. This frame is the perfect size. My box spring fit snugly with about 1/8" of wiggle room. I drilled four holes on the topside and reused my existing queen headboard. If you count the time it took to get my old queen bed out of the way, the build time was 3.5 hours. I spent 45 minutes staining the wood (Only the parts that would be visible).
    I got all my material from Home Depot so my total cost was $195.00. Since I flashed my military ID, they cut the wood for me. Compared to getting a queen bed frame from a big box store, the $195 is nothing to complain about.
    OUTSTANDING VIDEO!!!!!!!

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  8 лет назад

      +Ricardo DePalm Thats awesome! I am happy that you found the video useful and easy enough to follow. 3.5 hours is not a bad time at all. I was actually wondering how long it would take to make the bed without filming (it takes forever to make things and film each step as I go)
      The price depends largely on where you buy things. My local lumber yard has stuff for a great price so I was able to save a bit. But $195 seems very reasonable. You should have the frame for a long time and it is very sturdy. Thank you for watching!

    Love the videos, and this is excellent design for a simple build. a few notes for the audience: 1) measure the diagonals and get the 4 sided box square before screwing in the 3 support boards. 2) take the flange off the pipe-leg to screw it to the support board, then screw it back in. 3) with this design, if you are using a box spring, you don't need any of the side-to-side slats, the wood frame in the box-spring will carry the load to the 3 support boards you already have. If not, deck boards are cheaper than 2x4 and you can fill the base with them.

    I built one years ago and used 4x4's for the legs (5 of them). Also used 1x2's for the slats. 25 years and five moves, still going strong. I advise against box springs; the platform design is better for your back with just a nice mattress.

      Thank you for watching! This bed really is a solid one. With your 3.5" posts did you use treated wood? I have heard that it is not a good idea to have that in the house due to the chemicals. Others have used 2x4's and screwed them together as 3.5". Also the middle leg is a good idea! :)

    I built two of these for my basement for extra sleeping quarters without having to add rooms. I just framed them end to end along the wall and i'm going to build a half wall to separate them. I didn't use 2 X 4's for the slats. I thought that was over kill considering the slats that are in my store bought bed are much less. The design is very easy to build . Most videos I saw you needed fancy cuts and tools to do the corners. The adjustable legs were great for the basement floor that isn't level. But they were really expensive! I got 3\4 pipe and flanges. The pipe was about $250 each. The two flanges are $500 each making each leg approx $13 X 9 per bed was a lot. But all in all this was a breeze to build!
