I have come home from work to realize i had my laminate iron on all day long on my wooden work desk. Occasionally left soldering iron as well. My safety protocol now is that anything that heats up in my shop is plugged into a powerstrip that also has some kind of light that is always turned on. Now i can just glance around my shop and if any lights are on i know i need to turn that power strip off.
Hi Matt, the bushing on racestar is there to corect a factory defect ... the gear box is moving up and down because the middle gear is to small. On towerpro if you take a closer look the middle well is spot on and it will keep the top one from going down :). They did not put bras bushing because they have no friction on the plastic case .
Just be aware of banggood Racestar MG90S. I bought 6 of them, opened the case and surprise! All gears except for the output shaft are plastic! Also there is not any kind of bearing or brass bushing on the output shaft. I ve send email with pics to them and waiting for refund.
@@RagTheNutsOff Same thing here, all plastic inside. Recent reviews on BG are reporting the same. You should add a note somewhere in the description to let your viewers know, so that its not too deceiving. Could be a good opportunity to do an update video with a new batch of BG servos, see where to good deals are at now :D
Good to know Matt Thanks. Been using Corona CS-929MG's analog and DS- 929MG's digital, great about the RaceStars though magic. The 2.2ohm resistors work well on ALL .
the original Tower Pro MG90s have the same gear set up. There is that one nylon gear to serve as shock cushon for the motor pinion. They have real custom sized ball bearings as well (8x5x2). And they have QC markings and production sticker from the inside
Phew! Just bought a 6 pack of metal gear 9g servos from Amazon. Fortunately, they have the metal bushing so seem to be the right sort. Many thanks for the video because I wouldn’t have thought about this before.
That plastic gear cannot strip, there is not enough torgue from the motor. The plastic gear is used to prevent wear at this high rpm area, it also is used to lower gear noise.
Yeah I bought some Tower Pro MG90S servo's and they didn't have bushings on the output shaft and only had metal gears on the motor and the final output, all the rest of the gears were plastic.
DO NOT BUY THE RACESTAR ANYMORE! Ordered 6x Racestar through your link but the internals are way different. All plastic except the last gear now, and no bushing. Either I got unlucky, or Racestar started shipping cheaper clone.
Howdy Andre, ok that's not right. Send their support a photo of the insides of what you have got and a screenshot and link to this video and see what they say. Matt
I learned something else about these servos - the hard way. I decided to try a 2S Lipo to power the receiver in a Lidl slope soarer, so no motor and no ESC. The receiver has no problem with 8.4V from a fully charged 2S but I didn’t realise that this voltage would be passed straight to the servos, which have a limit of 6V apparently. The penny dropped when one of the second pair I tried started smoking rather well! Four new servos ruined but another lesson learned 🤕
It's too hard to keep up with which BG MG90S models will be good and which ones are going to die on you, I'll be running with Corona, HiTec or Freewing for NORMAL voltage servos, or ProModel for HV servos. Too much to keep up with and too much at stake with my scratch-built models.
Just bought a whole bunch of these rascestar servos from Bangood. Delivered today. No metal bush and only the first gear metal. Held together by two screws. Nothing like the quality in your video. Bangood stuff previously good. Heigh Ho.
omg ...been on the racestars since last october ,someone still buys magazines gave up on them when they went to £6 ish in the shops ....nice one matt !!
i ordered some of the 'Racerstar' servos (they are called that and not 'Racestar') a few weeks ago to try out as i was looking for something with much less play in them than the tower pros have as i want them for a 450 CP Heli. I have been very impressed with them, ALL 6 of the servos i received have absolutely no play in them what-so-ever and second Matts endorsement of these servos. now, as time goes on and the machinery used to make them wears, we might start to see poorer tolerances but seriously, there isn't even 1/4mm of slop at the end of the servo arm in the ones i have received :)
@@RagTheNutsOff I've got millions of the tower pro servos but from now on I'll be buying the racerstar's. Always ays been happy with their motors and esc's and thought I'd try the servos and I've not been disappointed 😊
The Racerstar 4 pack from Banggood that I received, same as the ones in your link above, were fake. Metal output gear but all the other gears were plastic and no bearings at all so lots of slop. Total junk really ... but for 9 quid what do you expect. Don't use them where it matters I guess.
I saw that these are analog servos, and that that digital servos can move a lot faster and are more accurate, are there any relatively inexpensive digital servos?
I also just looked at my last batch of MG90S servos, they're "TIAKONGRC" and have the brass-ish bushing and metal gears throughout, but have the translucent case too.
Not the same anymore Matt, these servos have gone to a very poor standard now unfortunately. Top cog is the only bit of metal in the servo. Just not sure why banggood do it, just charge a bit more for them and keep the quality.
I wouldn't Touch either of those servos. Get the EMAX ES08MAii instead.. why cheap out on an aircraft costing a couple of hundred quid all up and put cheapo servos in it .. Like putting Remolds on a sports car . ya just dont .
Morning SkyrisUK, you say that, but only until recently when I hot a tree so hard, I killed both servos (4S, full knackers, both servos completely stripped where it hit that hard), the older TP ones had been working great, with the only suspect ones coming from eBay and they looked a lot like what they do here. Matt
That's interesting! I got 12 of these 'fake' Tower Pro servos in last month from BangGood and they look the same as the ones I bought in 2019. I just opened one up after seeing this and all the gears were metal (checked with a meter) and the label is not that tiny one on yours. However the touque is way down on what they used to be and the positioning is unreliable - really unreliable. I think they are sourcing them from all over the place and just cannot be trusted anymore.
!!! 01-NOV-2020 UPDATE: Racerstar MG90S has gone fake too !!! All plastic gears except for the last one on top. Very sad to see this fraudulent trend spreading ... I guess the quest for affordable metal gear servos continues once more 😉

thinking of replacing the stock servos on my rnger 1600 with these Racestars whould i be upping to 12g or will the 9g do just fine?
