"Dog Problems" Lyrics:
Don't you dare speak for someone you don't know.
They'll feel it in the back of their throat.
We know I can't construct a poem
Cause words like girls get bored and run
C'est la vie, I say "I've got so many better things"
I've got nothing, you should see me,
I smoke myself to sleep.
And blame postmodern things I can't relate,
Like summer camp and coastal states.
Like alcohol and coffee beans.
Dance floors and magazines.
I think its safe to say I've only got myself to blame
But boys in swooping haircuts are bringing me down,
Taking pictures of themselves.
And so I walk the web in search of love,
But always seem to end up stuck.
I'm finding flaws in everyone.
I've reached the point where all I want,
Is to sleep around in hopes that I will catch back up.
We are parallel lines we're running in circles,
We're never meant to cross.
I'm at a loss, you were my tangerine,
My pussycat, my trampoline.
Now alls I get are wincing cheeks,
And dog problems, I signed a lease.
Thinking my heart belonged at 93rd and park.
Instead I broke a girl's heart,
And flew back to Phoenix to finish the year as it started.
Can you hear me?
Are you listening?
This is the sound of my heart breaking.
And I hope it's entertaining,
Cause for me it's a bitch.
Was it worth it?
When you slept with him?
Did you get it all out of your system?
I am a man
Holding it all
I couldn't breath
Coming across
I didn't know
I couldn't give up
B is for believing you'd always be here for me.
E is for everything, even when we see it though.
C, c is for seeing through you, you are a fake, which brings me to
A because, because, you always run away.
I never finish phrases, I misspell.
Open arms are prison cells.
When I said, "I hate what I've become"
I lied, I hated who I was.
So when you start to wonder 'bout the pain in my throat,
Then don't you ever, no never, ever, speak for someone you don't know. Subscribe to Nettwerk's RUclips channel:

Nate Ruess is a genius. His lyrics in all of his songs aren't cliche and extremely creative and emotional, especially the ones in Be Calm, my personal favorite.
i am blown away that be calm is from the same guy
Man I still get chills from this just like the very first time I heard it. Such a masterpiece
Nate explained in an interview that in a way it's both. He's trying to spell "because," but he ends up putting an extra C in and spelling his ex's name, and then, "I never finish phrases I misspell," is meant to explain that connection. He's a genius.
Still loving this song 15 years later!! I really hope they’re able to do their reunion tour soon.
Jesus, Dog Problems came out 15 years ago?? Where did the time go?
Not sure if I like FUN. or THE FORMAT better. Aim and Ignite and Dog Problems were both fantastic albums.
i love both
Aim and Ignite and Dog Problems!
The Format hands down. See that's a metaphor, no wait a similie.... It's actually an idiom and double entendra that led to a pun that explains why The Format is like butter to the ears... Which is an actual similie. Which bring me to my point... Nate Reuss has an angelic voice... a metaphor.... But The Format's melancholy just wieghed a ton on the heart.... That last one was a stretch but Hyperbole all the same.... See what I just did? This reply could keep going in circles... OK, Ok, I'll stop now.
I like both but cmon the format is deff by far a way better band!!
@@tb8651 you hurt my brain
Man I can't believe I forgot about these guys! This song got me through some rough times. One of the few sad songs that gives you a boost at the end and reminds you to keep going
SAL
It has been 14 years and this is still my go to depression song.
Heartbreak gang
@@wynnedwards94 Nah bro Im good now you are on your own
@@wynnedwards94 Jk jk lmao, it only got worse
This is The Format's Bohemian Rhapsody.
YES! I got a zune in fifth grade, and this was one of 3 videos that came with it, but that thing broke down before I could even put music on it... this song has been stuck in my head for 8 years and I finally found it ;w;
Kora Marinov ME TOO OMG ME TOO I LOVE NOSTALGIA
At least I'm not the only one
I found it through my Spotify recommended and immediately recognized nates voice cause this was years after some night haha.
What is a zune?
@@isabeltuck2433 A really really good media player that got absolutely shit on in the public eye because of bad marketing
Reminds me of 2009 so much. A friend told me about them and loved it then and love it now. Thanks Dean.
Was a janitor one summer in college...2006....a building in north Scottsdale. Jammed to this album while I cleaned dip out of urinals and turtle vac’d hole punched paper. AZ baby!!!....used their songs on my Myspace page 😂
I come from the future, is 2018 and this song is still amazing.
loser
Ben Armstrong that’s not very nice is it?
@@skeebas_2541 manners are probably different in the future
I've come from the future future, is 2021 and this song is still continuing to be amazing
this is sooooo lipsinked
@Reece Petersen I commented this when I was 12 and completely forgot about it. Thanks for making it pop up in my notifications hehe
yeah i mean, how Nate DARE to do lipsink...it's not Drag Queen Race! 🤣
@@camrynbauer8714 Lmao. It's such a stupid reply too.
I love how The Format could have such depressing lyrics but an upbeat rhythm. Always cheers me up when I'm down. :]
I really gotta give Nate a hand for being such a great talent.
When I was I think 4 this was my favorite song ever. I loved Oobi, the show that's just hands with googly eyes, and thought this was from it or something. So I listened to it all the time. I'm about 16 now and i still love this song! But I think I better understand what it was about now then I did 10+ years ago
OMG I completely forgot about Oobi!!!!! Thanks for reminding me! :0
This is one of the saddest songs I know.
headlights by nate reuss and eminem
Kevin O'Connell stop being a bitch.
Is it strange that this doesn't make me sad but she doesn't get it does?
@@jlansdale536 What??
Haha the Nate hand with the hat! So great.
I bought this cd cause it looked intresting having dogs all over it & case made out of cardboard insted of glass! Had it 17 years now & still e4njoy it!
I forgot how much I loved this song.
God. Since I started listening to The Format and Fun., I have only listened to The Format and fun. That was right before the new year.
I gotta say though, nothing beats this album. It is perfection
Man, this song is so good but it makes me so sad. Unfortunately, most of us have been there.
This was preloaded on Zune and I finally found it! Thanks for the upload! So much nostalgia and feels since I'm going through a breakup! 😭
Haha, 8 years and I hadn't seen the official video so far. This is brilliant!
8 years since i listen this song , hace a lit of feelins , pretty.
I just love his voice so much 😩😍
2:57 nice queen reference. :)
This video is literally me as a person ....words can't describe how much I identify with this
+Lovelin Sin (Lovelitchi) i feel the same way you are not alone.....
you dumb
So I guess your a hand then
their new cd is called dog problems, and it is alright. but my personal favorite is their cd before that called "interventions and lullabies" it is absolutely amazing. the song "the first single" is unbelievable and has become one of my favorite songs of all time. i really reccomend it. i loveeeee the format.
this vid was really cute! i love how there was a band-aid on his wrist at 3:53 while saying his throat hurts!
This is seriously one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in my life.
I've always thought that The Format had a more soulful and dynamic sound to it. Just the transitions in this song are amazing and well put together that makes the whole song that much more enjoyable to listen to.
I love that the hand has a little version of the hat Nate always wears.
Wait.. WHAT? I hear it now but this is seriously Fun.? That is amazing. Nate Reuss is more fantastic than I had originally believed. I was just checking out this song since it had been forever only to find this sweet nugget of information. Absolutely amazing song and amazing band.
This is the Format, Nate's prior band
Forgot how much I loved this song
Wow I think it's been about 12 years since I seen this video and for some reason I thought I'd look up this video an I found it haha
This CD is AMAZING.
Looked special with case made out of cardboard insted of glass & had dogs all over it!
So simple, and yet so effective.
Plus its a great great song.
i think that... i've never loved a song as much as this one. it just picks you up and it's like, WAHOOOOOOOO! i dunno how. the incredible singer makes me forget ALL my problems and i just... i love it!
this is music at its finest.
I love Nate on a whole new level. I did not know about this!
Something I noticed:
"If you can try to fix what I've undone, because I hate what I've become" The First Single, 2003
"When I say I hate what I've become, I lied, I hated who I was" This song, 2006
Sorry if this was an obvious reference, I just wanted to point it out
I love this video! The format is easily one of the best bands ever! He also is talking about the first single when he says "I said I hate who I've become I lied I hated who I was" Genius!
This is probably the best music video I've ever watched.
Funny, how the "pain in my throat" line becomes so much more in the context of this video.
i 'like' fun. on facebook and it suggested i like the format because 'many people who like fun. like the format' so here i am :) and i love them!
Hi, here from 2020. The worlds a disaster but this song is still great
This is such a cool song and such an awesome music video. Nate Ruess is awesome.
I LOVE THIS BAND!!!! finally some music with meaningful lyrics and the voice of the lead singer AMAZING!!!! i could listen 2 them forever! GO THE FORMAT!
Imagine seeing some guy walking in public, recording his hand moving with a hat on it.
I'm pretty sure they did it in a studio 😃😂
I love the bit where its driving. Genius.
2:52 bohemian rhapsody reference?
I love this video. It's so funny. The hands have hands to play the piano, the facebook page has a hand with a swooping haircut, Nate's hand has a hat, and the band's just awesome.
That's because in that part it says, "If you ever start to wonder about the pain in my throat..."
Get it? The hand is the head, so the wrist is the throat?
This video is brilliant. :)
boys in swooping haircuts are bringing me down taking pictures of themselves. this is priceless.
This video is so clever.
Why did The Format have to break up ;_; they were so good..
adorkable I KNOW!!! Fun had nothing on them.
Well they're back together now!
MercyAllTheWay I agree
I've listened to this song everyday for the longest time. I have to say it can brighten me when I have nothing left. (:
That's one of the cutest music videos I've seen.
im from arizona so i totally knew about the format before everybody and every time i listened to them i wondered to myself why arent they more popular....
Great nod to Queen. This song is epic and underrated
That was pretty incredible
Have you listened to Aim and Ignite? There's so much win in that album. Also, their Christmas (yet not Christmasy-sounding) song, Believe in Me. It makes me tear up (but only when I listen to the lyrics).
All new to me. Glad I found, subscribed. Great sound.
best cartoon art work ive seen
if you like his voice so much, listen to more stuff they have, you'll realize its better than we are young
This is such a great song that tells a story. Very unique.
I listened to the format cause my sis was obsessed with them and even got to see them but I now regret not getting into them but I'm also a Supporter of Fun now. Love the band so much
I just spilled my tea, thanks.
This is the cutest music video I've ever seen!
this is my favourite song by the format. and this video is absolutely brilliant
Ah! This is such a lovely song.
And an adorable video. :D
i love this song and that was the coolest idea for a music video ever! i never would have thought of something like that!
"this is the sound of my heart breaking....." is one of the saddest lyrics Ive ever heard.
I love it so much!!!
I'd never really listened to them until I saw Fun (Nate's new band) two days ago.
And now I can't stop!
i LOVE this song...the video just makes it so much better. hilarious
Basically the story of my life. I had known about fun. when they came out with "We Are Young", "Some Nights", and "Carry On", and I thought they were really good. I never really paid much attention to how good they were, though, until I was wandering around RUclips and came across "Walking the Dog", at which point I then listened to all of fun.'s songs. I was Googling Nate Ruess, and found he was in a band called The Format before fun. and too fell in love with this band. Nate is pure genius.
hahahaha this video is soooo adorable. i love the spitfulness in the song, sooooo good. great band. and how they actually made a mysoace page for the boy with the swooping hair cut is just hilarious!
I love The Format, glad to see they're getting the recignition they deserve.
Anyone else here reminiscing after The Format's most recent social media emergence? Would really like to get these guys together again, at least for one more live show.
I love this video! Every time I hear this song my hand starts singing.
I love this so much!
seeing them in concert is so cool! i recently saw them live and it was amazing ♥
I'm pretty sure this is the best music video I've ever seen
i think this is one of their best songs, and they do too to release it as a video. if you only think a band has one good song why watch the video? and post a comment? i think this is a very talented band.
this is soo freaking great!!
wow im like this, i see what fun. was supost to be based off of so much. and im guna say that The Format is the reason Fun. works its the lessons from this that helped set him up for greatness.
Both the song and the video are awesome. :D
brilliant idea for a music video. just brilliant.
the quote "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" comes to mind
i agree. i've loved the format for a looong time. but it's every singer's dream to make it big. so i'm proud of them (fun) and i'm proud to know i was there in the crowd in the beginning :)
back when myspace was popular...LOLZ!! Great sound!!
That was the cutest music video ever and I sure as hell hope that was Nate's hand XD
I loved the Format. And then they broke up. All of a sudden relient k goes on tour with a band called fun. I missed the show but loved the band. Then about 2 years later who do I hear on the radio. People don't need to be hatin that they got famous. I've been following their music for quite awhile. Be happy Nate's dream came true. He's still amazing. Band's do this all the time. Just enjoy the music guys
well done! I like it! It's really professional!
haha, i never realized people'd probably be enthusiasts of one over the other...
i never got the chance to see The Format, but i saw fun. at Bonnaroo last year...
simply put, these guys are fantastic musicians, and my force of opinion says, YOUR TASTE IN MUSIC IS PERFECT!
all of ours are.
Great Video!Good work!!!!
its such a unique video. i love it, but i love the song even more.
i love this soooooo much!
Oh my God I love the reference to the Bohemian Rhapsody video/ Queen II album!!!
