The audio was crap but MINIX3 sounds fascinating. I like the design philosophy he is going with...

I was always curious about Minix. I used Linux on my desktop for a long time since around the year 2000. I never studied computer science in college. I took a couple of programming classes, C# and Advanced C#, but I did study a lot of stuff on my own. I've ended up smug on a Chromebook at this point. I happened upon this, and I found it interesting. When my license for Chromeos runs out, I'll install Debian, but I may try this Minix 3 in a virtual machine on my desktop.

Vulnerabilities in hardware such as Spectre and Meltdown will affect *any operating system*. (overly-complex hardware)
Similarly, Enterprise Sytems Management embedded in the North Bridge.

Why Intel have Minix installed inside the cpu running totally independent from the user and even from the Sys Admin?. I guess I"m going AMD's.

HA! My shit Sony Bravia TV with Android crashes regularly. Infuriating. Maybe Sony should look at using MINIX3

Guys talking "against" and giving forum links.. Have you heard of XNU kernel of MAC and MinWin kernel of Windows that are IN the OSes now? The idea of micro kernel isn't that bad. Is Minix better , well that is a different question. But that man who is talking in this video is a GURU and in India when we say "Guru" we mean a lot of things apart from "teacher" and "expert" but if you do not know of that word, you may still refer American Heritage or Websters or Oxford dictionaries to get a not-so-perfect meaning. What difficulties these guys have to come through to come up with a product, how difficult and annoying do these experts find when less talented guys who offer "free" code gained popularity, jeopardizing their years of efforts and trust they created.. some of you won't understand. The least you can do is respect his contributions and know-how. Yes what he is obviously not sure about is how the world works.. how commercial products gain success.. he points it out for sure but what he misses is people will still adopt them.. the buggy, bloated software code... well most of us make them don't we :). Nutshell Minix rocks.. and personally I want it to evolve...

Linux is a fork of Minix! Few people know this, even fewer believe it!

      True that.

Linux isn't a fork of MINIX at all. There's absolutely zero MINIX code in Linux and there never has been. Andrew S. Tanenbaum himself debunked this stupid claim way back in 2004. Come on.

@@babyboomertwerkteam5662 Come on, nothing! Linus Torvalds admitted to it later on after buying the original MINIX book. The original source may be removed now but I'm sick and tired of people ripping off code without crediting the author! Real geniuses always credit their inspirations and the work of others. That's why Einstein was a fraud and so are many others. Don't steal work and fail to credit the author! MINIX was not public domain or MIT licensed.
