The other problem that should be fixed before grid size is folks starting around a corner on a rolling start. Functionally keeps them at the back for the entire race. Which sure, when I'm there, I deserve to be, but it takes away some of the fun of believing in oneself and one's capacity to overcome.
Daily Race B anything above 8 is starting in right in that last S bend, its the worst. Not impossible to overcome with all the silliness that happens in a first lap but it is a pain in the a*s.

Had to quit my first race for an “emergency” the other day otherwise I stick it out. I’m not a great driver and usually find myself at the back of the pack anyway. It is discouraging when you know you are to far behind the leader that you might not even cross the finish line, but people, come on! Ya gotta know that a wreck in a race is rather possible and it might be you. Be honest with yourself about your skill level and understand that if you are in a lobby with a bunch of bad drivers, you are one too. Let’s have a clean race!
Bigger grid but I say cap it at 20. If you get too big then you will have a larger portion of the grid drop out after the first couple laps because they are even further from top 10 and no chance at podium. I've been in a lot of races where I see the bottom 3 drop before turn 1. Penalty for quitting early could work but that could also backfire.
Sportsmanship rating penalty can be useful on these type of long races but I think a bigger grid is the best solution. 25-30 grids can be really great.
Ran 2 races yesterday, and had 4 finish the 1st, and 6 finish the 2nd. Boosts your ratings though if you can just survive it and take a top 5 and not have to worry about contact because everyone is spread out and just do your own thing
Also, the non linear throttle pedal input. On my V3s, on pc I have perfect throttle application, 1:1 ratio. However on gt7 if I press the pedal down 50%, the throttle bar only fills up 20%. It means I have to control most of the throttle application with much less of the pedal range
I have noticed that in the calibration on the game it reads perfect, when on the track the pedal is not accurate and it makes driving difficult for sure. the pedal calibration for the GT DD Pro is confusing to say the least in GT7!

I've always been strong at Suzuka so this week was fun for me. Last night I won a last to first race in my B lobbies, however at the end there were only nine drivers remaining.
Had a race earlier that ended with only 6 cars left, was 1st whole race but ended up over 30s ahead as all the quicker guys had 1 issue and quit immediately
if they quit they lost, its not an issue with the game, its an issue with their head. It doesnt matter how many people finish behind you, only ahead. Having more starters wont fix that, but it should have at least 20 starters best 24
They need a lot more than just longer races and larger grids. Dump the bop stuff, set a category with a HP and PP limit and let us tune our cars to that. Turn off ghosting and turn on full damage. When they start doing that I will resume running in the daily races. Right now it's basically like playing an arcade game in the 80's. I love this game and it would be a great simulator if they would use the features they already have. Just my opinion.
It's not a problem of the game. It's just... People think their quick when they did a good qualy lap after 10h in time trial, with many mistakes. But that doesn't matter, if u have no racecraft and be ready to train it under every circumstances, well than it just ends with quitting the game
It really upsets me that people will just quit after falling behind or making a mistake. People IT'S STILL RACE EXPEREINCE YOU GROW AND LEARN nothing wrong with losing or making mistakes. Don't give up.

Longer races people leave after making a mistake and it's like dawg if you didn't want to spend the time in the first place why join? Otherwise give someone else a chance behind the wheel or controller.

I have to admit I was guilty of this yesterday, first time ever. I had already been punted earlier in the race and was clawing back in last place. Lap 11 first corner got spun out by someone exiting the pits. I just couldn’t handle it anymore. So I left. Do I regret it? Yes.
The relatively small 16 player lobby was, I initially thought, a cross-platform compliance thing, until I remembered that GTS had 20 player grids. I hope PD are cooking up a patch for this, but as it's been 2 years now, I'm concerned that it might be baked into the game engine. I hope I'm wrong!
Grid size will be a technical limitation of the game. You already get dropped frames on some tracks with the current grid sizes. Adding more cars will just add more performance issues. The only way to prevent quitters is give a larger penalty for quitting, but then you risk punishing those who legitimately disconnect through no fault of their own.
I can't nail a lap in qualifying for race C, stuck on a 59.8 and can't get near it unless I nail every sector. Yet I did the race and got 3rd over 20 laps😂
thats because they arent that good drivers really, for a race it doesnt matter if you do one good lap among a thousand crashes, keep doing long races and everyone will improve . consistence and concentration
G'day Rory. The boredom factor is worse in the weaker Oceania lobbies. In my only C attempt I was punted early so I sat in the pits for most of the 45 minutes so as not to get a DR penalty. Race B is better for me as I can reset if I'm punted and have another go.
I raced this last night and it was not fun. A guy who obviously was on a controller was very fast straight, but caused havoc in the corners. Everyone from 8 back was so far behind it was horrible. I finished 7th

I'd honestly like to see PD implementing soft bans for rage-quitting, and I say this as someone who'll occasionally rage quit. Rage quit once, you're out for an entire day. Rage quit twice, make it a week. Rage quit three times, make it a month. Make rage quit track record reset once a month. That's a long enough time to make people think twice before doing that. Be just as heavy-handed with dirty drivers as well. Dropping DR doesn't mean a thing for a lot of people, and we've seen time and time again how this soft approach doesn't do anything to fix this issue. Try and be heavy handed for once and see how that goes.

These types of races are learning experiences. These are the races that you then get to push yourself around the track a little bit harder to see how far you battled back.
I didn’t qualify so started 16th by lap 9 I was in 4th and only 9 people still in the race by the end of the race it was only 7. I don’t get why people quit but it’s just a game guys you don’t always have to win podium. If all you want is podium put it on easy and play career mode

Right now I'm just a little Forza horizon playing bug that's still just on a Xbox controller because I don't have the space or money for a wheel right now but I would love to eventually move up in games and setup but stay on Xbox most likely so that limits my games a bit. If logi made a wheel set that could do PS and Xbox I could get into GT on my PS4 but oh well
Rory tell me why in Gr.4 after BoP, Mazda3 Gr.4 goes from 380 Hp to 380 Hp and the weight doesn't change, and for the M4 Gr.4 it goes from 394 Hp to 350 Hp and the weight doesn't change ? This format somewhat levels out the difference between aliens with short term concentration and slower drivers with concentration. Who cares how many people finish behind you, its your position that counts. people rage quitting is not the fault of the game, it what's between their ears. This is an opportunity for all to get better. If you build it they will come if its an improved product. 2 dozen slots would be great, but not because some cant manage their disappointment. Private lobbies on this track and format, but with variable weather and tyre wear requiring 2 stops, is even better. The best car for this race is the amg, the most stable is the maclaren but slow acceleration, the porsche is good but thirsty. The bmw is ok if your an alien, the genesis is a pig
You can put 100 cars on the grid and 90 would probably still quit or be so far behind its not worth their time or effort to actually finish, GT7 is a simcade where longer races probably dont really work unlike full simulations on PC where people are usually fully invested.....
Well, GranTurismo always has been a game to hop on and play, it's no Racing Sim. Although I agree with harder DR penalties for quitting, not veryone is a streamer who can focus on spending hours for racing games five days a week. Some people just don't want to spend their free time with driving around in the back but prefer to get some real life things done when they can't expect fun from a single race anymore. After all it is just a video game, right?
I remember they said bigger grids won't happen because of PS4, PS4 won't handle that, in hindsight this game shouldn't be released on PS4 and we wouldn't have such issues now On other hand if you are on controller and do 20 laps or 40 mins race, your hands are knackered after 40 mins races and wouldn't be surprised if some who are quitting are on controllers as they are unable to finish the race, do one race on controller and see how long you will be able play, on GTS here was GTWS race which was I think 18 laps and I quit after 11 laps because I couldn't feel my fingers hahaha(I'm not youngest), afterwards not done any GTWS till I got that time T-GT Gran Turismo 8 will need to have multiclass and bigger grids
Console game. Is it because GT7 is crossplatform with the PS4? Too much going on causes LAG? Project Cars 1 on PC had a PVE field of something like 62 IIRC. But you wanted a good GPU to run like that. Lack of cars on the field was something I found dissapointing in GT5, especially when doing the 24hrs of Le Mans and nurburgring full endurance race.
I moved away from GT7 over a year ago because of the small grid size and short races. GT Sport was great when we had 24 cars on track then they reduced it to 16 or something for GT7. I believe it was something to do with cross play with PS4 users but not 100% sure. Im glad to see that they have lengthened the daily races but GT7 really needs to bring back the bigger grids if they want to make the racing more enjoyable for everybody.
@@dan_turismo_44 Correct, I meant cross gen play as PS4 and PS5 users could play together but apparently this caused issues. It was quite a while ago now and i cant recall if cross gen was available in dailies when first released but that was most definitely PD's intention and i believe the reason for the reduction in grid size as the PS4 would struggle with the previous 24 car slots in the new game. Its something PD really need to address as its a huge backward step from GT Sport and a long way off the large grids in the likes of ACC and iRacing. If you have ever raced with a grid of say 40 cars you'll know what the GT7 player base is missing out on, and I'm confident that the PS5 is more than capable of handling the larger grids.
Definitely agree. I just finished this race, and there were only 7 people left at the end. I lapped the dude in 7th, and then he came back and ghosted right through me, blocking my entire view of turn 15 (the final fast left-hander). You can imagine the result. Ghosting needs to go. Make cars solid, and up the penalties for rear-ending.
@@damonn44 I hear you. And I know it's needed for the front runners to be able to get by them because there's no way to enforce blue flags. The league I'm in has clear rules against it for this exact reason. I just uploaded a video on my channel with highlights from that race if you want to see how badly it screws up other drivers.
I cant remember when I bought my g29 but I had it in the closet for years, last year I discovered gt7. I'm now 210 hours in, I upgraded my situation from desk to g29 on a cockpit. And recently ordered the dd extreme from fanatec. G29 feels great and is flexible for many applications but beware getting hooked.

I quite GT7 because of things like this. The whole experience really does suck if I am honest. Damage that fixes itself. GTFO in a "sim" racer no less.

you don't need a $1500 wheel, start at something around $300 and if you fall in love with it, building a rig can become a new hobby to save up and sink money into over years
Logitech g29 $230 usd on sale, brake is way to tight at the end of travel but use shoes it's all good. That's what I'm rocking plus all the questioning around what fanatic is doing is enough for me to steer clear.
The big mistake with gt sport and now with gt7 is that the every race is far too accesible to everyone for a very long reriod of time..for me that i work too many hours and i can only spend 2 to 3 hours 3 or 4 times a week is difficult to compete with guys that literally sleeping and eating on their driving rigs every day..and i am an a+ driver..is a big mistake your practise time to be your qualify time!!there must a be a limit in time you have to achieve your best time for the race..and you have to do it every time before each race...if you have unlimited time at some point you gonna make the perfect lap but if you have lets say 20 minutes every time is a different story..

Agreed. Spa is bad for this. Anyone below P10 has to do the Bus-stop Chicane an extra time at the start of the race.

I did one race. Spun 4 times and that was it for me after 2 laps. Skill issue😢

I think you get more accurate match making with smaller grid sizes maybe?
A harsh penalty for quitting would help like 30 minute ban from entering a race.

Won my only race today. I wasn't the fastest but I didn't make any mistakes. Only 9 finished the race.
Just wanna say I love your videos Rory. Right now I'm just a little Forza horizon playing bug that's still just on a Xbox controller because I don't have the space or money for a wheel right now but I would love to eventually move up in games and setup but stay on Xbox most likely so that limits my games a bit. If logi made a wheel set that could do PS and Xbox I could get into GT on my PS4 but oh well
why the ask for bigger quitter penalties? I don't play GT so don't know if people leaving somehow impacts those that stay in the race??
Rory tell me why in Gr.4 after BoP, Mazda3 Gr.4 goes from 380 Hp to 380 Hp and the weight doesn't change, and for the M4 Gr.4 it goes from 394 Hp to 350 Hp and the weight doesn't change ?
It's so stupid ! The balance of cars is horrible ! 31 cars in Gr4, just 2 OP cars...
There are so many issues : cars/tires/Daily Races/ Fair-play rank/ Penalties... it's a shame.

This format somewhat levels out the difference between aliens with short term concentration and slower drivers with concentration. Who cares how many people finish behind you, its your position that counts. people rage quitting is not the fault of the game, it what's between their ears. This is an opportunity for all to get better. If you build it they will come if its an improved product. 2 dozen slots would be great, but not because some cant manage their disappointment. Private lobbies on this track and format, but with variable weather and tyre wear requiring 2 stops, is even better. The best car for this race is the amg, the most stable is the maclaren but slow acceleration, the porsche is good but thirsty. The bmw is ok if your an alien, the genesis is a pig
Always the way, avoid dramas, only to go off track then the game punishes your grip so gives you more dramas
You can put 100 cars on the grid and 90 would probably still quit or be so far behind its not worth their time or effort to actually finish, GT7 is a simcade where longer races probably dont really work unlike full simulations on PC where people are usually fully invested.....
Make rewards for completing races better. So weird that offline races on easy for le mans give you so much more money
Well, GranTurismo always has been a game to hop on and play, it's no Racing Sim. Although I agree with harder DR penalties for quitting, not veryone is a streamer who can focus on spending hours for racing games five days a week. Some people just don't want to spend their free time with driving around in the back but prefer to get some real life things done when they can't expect fun from a single race anymore. After all it is just a video game, right?

I was in a race eariler about 11 driver's showed up and only 5 driver's remain just like real world races they don't like long races
It's because PD won't reduce the polygon count of the othe cars on track. Its not because of ps4 as ps4 and ps5 don't mix jn the dailies

I remember they said bigger grids won't happen because of PS4, PS4 won't handle that, in hindsight this game shouldn't be released on PS4 and we wouldn't have such issues now
On other hand if you are on controller and do 20 laps or 40 mins race, your hands are knackered after 40 mins races and wouldn't be surprised if some who are quitting are on controllers as they are unable to finish the race, do one race on controller and see how long you will be able play, on GTS here was GTWS race which was I think 18 laps and I quit after 11 laps because I couldn't feel my fingers hahaha(I'm not youngest), afterwards not done any GTWS till I got that time T-GT

Console game. Is it because GT7 is crossplatform with the PS4? Too much going on causes LAG?
Project Cars 1 on PC had a PVE field of something like 62 IIRC. But you wanted a good GPU to run like that.
Lack of cars on the field was something I found dissapointing in GT5, especially when doing the 24hrs of Le Mans and nurburgring full endurance race.
GT7 removed 20 player lobbies due to the ps4, It was unstable at launch.
And where exactly is the problem? People quit - what is your disadvantage?
I moved away from GT7 over a year ago because of the small grid size and short races. GT Sport was great when we had 24 cars on track then they reduced it to 16 or something for GT7. I believe it was something to do with cross play with PS4 users but not 100% sure. Im glad to see that they have lengthened the daily races but GT7 really needs to bring back the bigger grids if they want to make the racing more enjoyable for everybody.

@@dan_turismo_44 Correct, I meant cross gen play as PS4 and PS5 users could play together but apparently this caused issues. It was quite a while ago now and i cant recall if cross gen was available in dailies when first released but that was most definitely PD's intention and i believe the reason for the reduction in grid size as the PS4 would struggle with the previous 24 car slots in the new game. Its something PD really need to address as its a huge backward step from GT Sport and a long way off the large grids in the likes of ACC and iRacing. If you have ever raced with a grid of say 40 cars you'll know what the GT7 player base is missing out on, and I'm confident that the PS5 is more than capable of handling the larger grids.
Definitely agree. I just finished this race, and there were only 7 people left at the end. I lapped the dude in 7th, and then he came back and ghosted right through me, blocking my entire view of turn 15 (the final fast left-hander). You can imagine the result. Ghosting needs to go. Make cars solid, and up the penalties for rear-ending.

@@damonn44 I hear you. And I know it's needed for the front runners to be able to get by them because there's no way to enforce blue flags. The league I'm in has clear rules against it for this exact reason. I just uploaded a video on my channel with highlights from that race if you want to see how badly it screws up other drivers.

I cant remember when I bought my g29 but I had it in the closet for years, last year I discovered gt7. I'm now 210 hours in, I upgraded my situation from desk to g29 on a cockpit. And recently ordered the dd extreme from fanatec. G29 feels great and is flexible for many applications but beware getting hooked.

I use the g29 on gt7 on ps5 and it works perfectly fine but still wanting to upgrade so yeah the g29 is a good starter wheel or if your on a budget. Also if you haven't tried it on psvr2 yet you need to

you don't need a $1500 wheel, start at something around $300 and if you fall in love with it, building a rig can become a new hobby to save up and sink money into over years
Logitech g29 $230 usd on sale, brake is way to tight at the end of travel but use shoes it's all good. That's what I'm rocking plus all the questioning around what fanatic is doing is enough for me to steer clear.
I agree , I started with with Logitech G920 and that was more than enough to decide if I want to become a sim racer , also way cheaper 😊

The big mistake with gt sport and now with gt7 is that the every race is far too accesible to everyone for a very long reriod of time..for me that i work too many hours and i can only spend 2 to 3 hours 3 or 4 times a week is difficult to compete with guys that literally sleeping and eating on their driving rigs every day..and i am an a+ driver..is a big mistake your practise time to be your qualify time!!there must a be a limit in time you have to achieve your best time for the race..and you have to do it every time before each race...if you have unlimited time at some point you gonna make the perfect lap but if you have lets say 20 minutes every time is a different story..
Who has time for longer races anyway

Not a big enough grid and the long races cause people to quit, you end up with not many left at the end. Possibly stiffer penalties for bailing on a race more than once a day!
