A lot of people don't know that this song was written on a night she tried to commit suicide using valium and vodka. She was saved by a phone call from an old friend who convinced her to get sober. The soul must feel before it can create this sort of masterpiece.
TY for the back story to the utterly beautifully tragic song.
@@youngrichie Next up for your assignment is Ray Lamontagne - Jolene BBC 4 Sessions
He wrote a line in that "A man needs something to hold onto, a 9lb hammer or a woman like you"
Deeper than you think, some think sledge, some think the weed strain. A revolver takes 9-15 lbs of force to pull the trigger depending on the brand.
Ray is a goat.
That’s deep
Is this fact or fiction ?
@@raylo1635 A quick google search would have showed you it was fact. Would have been quicker than commenting and waiting for a response!
My depression got depressed by this song. So I felt a bit better.
You win...LOL!
Two negatives make a positive ❤️
Thank you.
🙌
Bahahah that makes a lot of sense
4:40 a heartbreaking “primal scream”. Brings out emotions I didn’t know I had. Absolutely mesmerizing.
I'm with you
Same it makes me cry. It's like letting all your pain out.
I love this performance mainly because of that part. She doesn't do it in other videos.
My God she can bring all the feels.
Thank you🙏🏻
This has to be her best performance of this song by far
2023 and it's still a masterpiece
Masterpiece indeed
Yes
Time doesn't destroy masterpieces, they are immortal.
Do the youth know that Sia used to make magic like this??
2024 and its still a masterpiece!
Can’t believe that I just discovered this stunningly gorgeous song! I’m 71 and totally amazed by this performance!
I am 51 now and totally agree with you ☘️🌸. Simply amazing ✨🌟
Keep digging. She’s written and performed some real doozies. Always makes me reaching for the tissues
Sia has a lot, and I mean a lot, of such great compositions. What she is now is very mediatic, which is not to say it isn't good, but it sort of obscures her older work. Check out albums Some People Have REAL Problems and Colour the Small One.
I'm 72 ! Goosebumps.
Same her 104 and also amazed also I bench press. 400 pounds at 70lbs body weight
I don't think she really understands how much everyone adores her. She's a beautiful human inside and out.
that's because feeling good about yourself is not about how much others adore you, but about how much you adore yourself. I don't think many people understand how pervasive childhood hardships can be.
word....
@Paul-uv4wg Yes, that's ultimately up to the person how they choose to deal with past trauma. However, she's loved by millions for her artistic music. That has to mean something in a world where millions of people are literally loved by no one.
@@cheers2023 yes, that's the point I'm making - you can be loved by millions, but it'll feel like no one loves you when you don't love yourself first.
Perhaps she does, and its not about that, but aboit expression and being understood.
I like her humour at the end, "that was a good drum beat"? it can be interpreted as deflection but it also conveys "im at peace with it" (the attempted suicide that the song was about).
The greatest vocalists are those who surrender and become a vessel for the spirit and the message moving through them into our souls. Sia is a singular genius.
What? Stop trying so hard. Nice avatar, too. Weirdo.
Amazing comment 😊 I feel this about Kate Bush and Goldfrapp x
Nah - bollox- Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, Lou Reed all had the same message for you BOTS. Fuck Off.

............................... lost my mom and dad... my sister..... most friends.... life is still so beautiful tho. Sobbing on my laptop listening to this beautiful song. This song has pulled me through so much...... thank you Sia.
I hope this beautiful piece brings you some peace. Sia sings for all of us, our pain and our fears. She gives them voice when ours are but a whisper. I hope you find some comfort in this, and for what it's worth, I'm sending some love.
@@simongodfrey4756 ... thank you for your very kind words,, they're worth a lot.
@@ohm8458 So often people say, don't be sad etc, I can't do that, sadness is important, sadness brought us this beautiful song. But pushing down that sadness... it can break us. I think listening to songs like this give air to the emotions inside us that need it. I'm sorry that everything that has happened to you did. It's unfair. But as i said, I hope a little kindness, and beauty, can make today.. 1% less shitty.
@@simongodfrey4756 Iv'e been doing better,, a lot better than I thought I could. Sadness is important. It's very easy to fall to sadness that is still consumes me rather than try to rebuild some type of happiness. This version of Breath Me is incredibly powerful. It pretty much sums up human emotion, although each of us being different how we manage our emotions we can get through hard times. Your kind words are worth way more than 1 percent my friend... and again I thank you for even taking the time to respond. This song is so powerful and helps to clense my heart and soul. I hope that you and yours are in good health and spirit. jN
Sending infinite love and light....I feel you❤
I was locked in an abusive marriage for 16 years and have never read or heard anything that could describe the incredible pain that comes from trying to climb out of the dark. To feel someone out there understands that depth of feeling and put it to music & words is everything. Thank you, Sia
❤
Sia's live performances blow me away. They rival the studio versions. An amazing talent and beautiful.
Rival? They are better!
Not as good as Jonathan Roy cover, sorry.
Just checked Johnathan Roy's cover.. it's definitely solid; just comes down to preference. I'll be looking more into his catalog, for sure.
Personally, the soul Sia delivers here makes it a tough act to follow.
@@dustinnelson2625 it’s a soulful song either way! I’m just glad to hear it. Sia is just not my type of singer.
No lo había pensado pero tienes razón… sus versiones en vivo son incluso mejores que las de estudio.
Her control. The depth of emotion. Just all the feels possible when her voice is heard. She is just so incredible.
And she preforms with such an ease.

Hurt myself again today
And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame

Warm me up

This performance is by far my favourite of this song. I always get goosebumps when I listen to it. She is absolutely incredible.
I just found this version. Im not a big Sia fan I gotta say but I do recognize her as an incredible artist. And Im familiar with the fact that she has written alot of hit songs for many of the biggest artist. Now.. I dig Elastic Heart and maybe a couple more but one day I found this song and was blown away. Not only her delivery but the lyrics are a real gut punch. Especially for someone whos gone in the head. I actually first heard it at the end of a Luther episode. Then I found a live performance of it that u gotta see if u like this one. She has on a pink sweater on that hangs to her knees. Anyway if u like this one I bet u will LOVE that one. Its unbelievable. Everything about it. One side note, the drummer gives her a beautiful very nuanced back up on the vocals which was just perfect. Enjoy friend

The song killed when I first heard it in the finale...the only song that made me cry. amazing
I’m quite a tough individual emotionally.
But that ending was the most clever, poignant, beautifully written ending to a tv show or film I think I’ve ever seen.
The scene and the song were so in sync I wasn’t sure where one started and one finished
Sheer perfection. I don't know that there will ever be another finale that has the perfect combination of writing, acting, directing, camera work, and music that can top SFU.
Cello foward in this performance makes this the best version IMO. For some reason as well, I feel like she really felt this particular session as if it was the anniversary. Easily one of the most beautiful and heart felt compositions to date.

This song makes me cry like a baby. It makes me feel better and know I am not the only sad person out there. This song holds me and wraps me up when I feel small and worthless. It’s ok to be sad, it’s ok to feel down and out. We all are human.

This literally gives me chills. Sia is so insanely talented. We are not worthy ❤️🙏
I cry every time I hear this. It forces me to recall where I first heard It - Six Feet Under - HBO'S Great series 2001-2005!
“Don’t be sad.” I don’t know how many times I’ve come back to this song. She’s so expressive. I love the drop “ouch”. It seems to me she’s unaware of how amazing she is. Sia has the ability to draw the listener in to her web of lyrical mastery and leave us wanting more.
Fall girls She knows how amazing she is. Sometimes she feels empty and she’ll never say why.
Beautifully expressed. I tip my hat to you.
Noone being 100percent in is aware of themselves 100percent
true
It’s “out” as in “breathe me…out”
Many people don’t know the brilliance that is pre pop Sia. I guess you could say I’m a pop fan but her earlier music is something special. Got me through a lot of really, really tough times. Love this Sia but I’m also happy for her healing 💕
I LOVE pre fame, Sia( too).
100%! This is still my favourite song of hers to date!
Yeah I like pre-pop Sia too, the pop Sia is too studio sounded for me.
Entièrement d'accord avec toi
The pain and story needs very few audible words. Singing from her soul.
I saw her live twice before she hit it big. She is very real. A genuine person with a huge personality and adorably quirky. Her voice live is true and exactly as you hope it will be.
I really wish I could have seen her live at this point of her life. I like her newer songs as well and every songa brings another feeling with it, but this era of Sia just feels so raw and special, totally unfiltered and simply put real. I don't want to sound spiritual (because I am actually not) but I can't explain it other than that her old songs connect with the souls on a deeper level.
Wow, the way she modulates her voice on this track and just 'owns' the whole experience.... along with the guys playing, this is pretty special x
I have this song name tattooed on my wrist. To me it means- its okay to be vulnerable. Its okay that sometimes we wont feel loved by the world. What we need more than anything is to accept ourselves entirely, flaws and all. Like the air that sustains life on earth, we all need to breathe self-love into our souls.
We also need to re-learn to accept each others flaws. We've become a society that won't tolerate anothers point of view and will , in fact, oppose it at every opportunity (but only by RUclips or Twitter of course)
Anyone that finds faults with you is probably trying to cover up their own.
I truely believe that nobody (or no thing) has anymore right to be on this Earth than anything else.
Awww... Like me and my partner your an Empath.. 🙂 👍🏻
Well said.
@@mickram23 I think the Jews had more right to be on Earth than Hitler. I think the victims of murderers had more right to be on Earth than the person that murdered them, especially children. Your perspective is quite naive.
I love your interpretation. I also feel this song is about surrender...surrender to 'the mystery'.
Man the emotions she puts out is so crazy. I applaud her for showing us her vulnerability, it seems like such a hard thing to do
It's like an exorcism when she starts sing it's like she becomes something totally different,.
And then she snaps out of that passion into
Being playful & joking.
Seeing Sia singing her song in such an authentic way, without any add-on, without hiding her face gives so much more emotion to me! Amazing video. Really amazing ❤❤❤🙏
I don't know how many times I've listened to this over the past number of years, but every time my heart flutters faster or it brings me close to tears. It's one of those songs that seems to get me and I it. Such a powerful song, I'm glad I found it.
I heard and rode to this song at soul cycle over 10 yrs ago … I listen to it weekly since …. It takes me to that ethereal space between all emotions… bless her for this gift …
@@supremeadvisory8287 tell me more about Soul Cycle!
I watch this live performance, and another one of Breathe Me all the time. Spiritual.
Tears literally stream down my face every time I come back and watch this performance. So much emotion. That wail is real. And something you can truly only understand if you've been that close to suicide. And all the frenetic energy in the music alongside it is just perfectly done. I'll bet all the musicians there can't help but get swept up and lost in it. Taking part in something like that must be a transcendental experience. One hell of a ride going there and then coming back down to Earth afterwards.
Doesn’t it just…
Still the best live version of this song!!

What a dark yet hopeful and inspiring way she has of expressing an exposing herself at such a hopeless moment in her life. Why do the most amazing people think that they are unimportant at times…
Sia you are simply a ball of glorious light!
because most of us are unimportant. Some exceptions become amazing people (those that you know and hear about) but how many of those people fall? For example I know good singer from talent show, a girl from Ukraine, her name is Olga Melnyk. She have fantastic voice and get into top audition list all around the world with her performance (Human and Lovely). BUT she didn't win. Moreover nobody hear about her after end of the show.
