Great vid! To avoid doing so much sanding when spray painting your inner letters just use masking tape. After the first cut, leave the wood down on the table in the exact place you had it but place a piece of masking tape over it. Run the exact same tool path again and you will have a perfect stencil for your spray paint!
I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. Thank you for this review, I have been considering getting a CNC for craft projects at home but just wasn't sure which one to buy, your very good review has made this a fairly easy choice now. just need to make some money from it now so that it pays for itself and any future upgrades.
Just ordered one and it's bundled with the laser, because I want to make a new dial for my Variac, I know it would be considerably cheaper to order a new one , at least this one seems good enough to get familiar with before deciding if I want to spend the money on a bigger better one.
The Swedish Maker Just bought a CNC3 3018 pro. Then watched your vid, cart before the horse! Cheers you put my simple mind to peace. I would like to know could you set it up to write letters, as with age my hands are not to steady? Cheers.
If you want the clips which are called clamps to work better put something under the back side of it making it level horizontal not at an angle... The clamping force will increase if you do this
Get the one with the limit switches and tool height setter like Sansmart 3018 prover if your a newbie, its worth the extra money as it will prevent you from destroying your machine if you make a stupid move in the software settings and crash your machine. which you will..
The (3d printed?) plastic parts for the entire Z axis and Y axis linear bearing holders disintegrated into dust on my seveal year old machine. Y axis fairly easy to replace bearings; Z axis will take more thought.
Can you make circles in various sizes with this machine. Also how do you hold down some wood that you are matching on top of the wood that you would have help down on the metal bed. Thanks
Your video was very useful. Thank you. Am about to purchase a CNC. the 3018 PRO is in my sights, and my questions about whether this is a tool that I can learn to use well and joyfully has been answered.
Very informative video! I am a 70 year old retiree who enjoys wood working as well. I think I could incorporate a CNC router into some projects of mine, but have a couple questions, please. I am considering the 3020 CNC as my first purchase to see how well I can adjust myself to them. 1. Have you tried the program that came on the USB drive yet, and do you like it ? 2. Are these machines sophisticated enough to do minor 3D images of say, 15 - 25 mm ? 3. Now that you are several months into using the machine, are you still fairly well satisfied with the purchase? Thanks, kindly!
Hi! And thanks for watching the video. I haven't tried the program that came with the machine as I am using Mac and that software is for Windows only. They can do minor 3D images for sure. I am still satisfied with the purchase as the machine was so Inexpensive. It is still running at the same capacity with very little maintenance. The limitations of the machine, the build plate size and the maximum height certainly stopped me from doing some more demanding operations, but I knew that buying it. Hope you find something that suits your needs.
I was listening to back episodes of the 3 Northern Makers podcast and got to the one where you mentioned this CNC and I immediately paused and came here :) Anyway, currently there's a Vevor 3018 PRO for £120 available in the UK and I was wondering if that's going to be as good as the one in this video? The reviews are few, but not terrible, mostly complaints about the build being difficult.
Your issue with the clamps might be that they aren't set up right... maybe. Yes, they are kinda crappy, but your wingnuts should go through the slots. The holes in the back are for "standoff" bolts... in other words, the bolts in the back PUSH against the work table, and the bolts in the slots PULL the clamps down towards the table. The bolts in the back should always be adjusted HIGHER than the thickness of the work that's being clamped, so the very tip of the clamp is the part that touches the work. Hope I'm not coming across as a smartass, I appreciate the work that it takes to make a video... thanks, and I hope this helps
Hey thanks for letting me know. I never really did figure out that part and as there were no more bolts in the package I just went with this method. Lately though I'v been using a thin piece of plywood with four holes in the edges. Then I run the bolts through thoose holes and clamp it down with the wingnuts on top. That way I can just screw the workpiece on to the plywood.
Thanks, I thought that was quite a comprehensive vid on this. I’m not too savvy with the computer side of things but it looked easy enough how you demonstrated it.
hello, i just my machine the same as the one you have in this video. i did all connection and downloaded easel also. however, the Easel does not see the machine. any idea to help? thank you
I was wondering if this machine would be able to hold glass cylinders 3 mm in diameter and around 10 cm in length? I guess the holding assemblies are called chucks? Could you get one for requirement I listed above?

Lasergrbl doesn't do portraits on my cnc-3018pro as you stated. Everything I tried failed to produce a decent portait.
I work with full sized cnc mills and programming but I still baught this for fun the tolerances are super forgiving and it’s simple
It sure is!
is this will work on plexie glass?
Works on plastics but they melt around the bit and you keep cleaning the bit! not easy
The Swedish Maker
Just bought a CNC3 3018 pro.
Then watched your vid, cart before the horse!
Cheers you put my simple mind to peace.
I would like to know could you set it up to write letters, as with age my hands are not to steady?
Cheers.
Can you please put up some great default settings my machine keeps bottoming out
In lieu of screw the project piece to another board, just pick up toilet tank bolts, they should fit fine. They are listed as closet bolts on Amazon!
thank you for this tip
Thank you for uploading this. Also... the board behind you with magnets holding the screw drivers .. genius idea .. I will do that in my garage ;)
If you want the clips which are called clamps to work better put something under the back side of it making it level horizontal not at an angle... The clamping force will increase if you do this
thanks for the post, enjoying fixing my 3018 cnc
Get the one with the limit switches and tool height setter like Sansmart 3018 prover if your a newbie, its worth the extra money as it will prevent you from destroying your machine if you make a stupid move in the software settings and crash your machine. which you will..
Can you do a video on making a small,
simple part?
Can we engrave on gold plate
Does the spindle have a flat edge? At high speeds it will vibrate a little? Not sure if I should get the 3018 or the PRO?
I couldn't help but notice that the sawdust was falling onto the lead screw. Does that affect the travel and accuracy at all?
Great video, thanks for posting. This is exactly all I want to do with a CNC router, in wood that would be 1/8" thick. cheers!
How advanced things can you make with this? Could you carve a picture in wood with it for example or is it mainly for making signs and simple cutouts?
Sure you could carve a picture. As long as you go with a slow pace it will work fine.
I've wanted to see a make like this.. I have wanted to buy a cnc machine but didn't know how complicated it would be to make something 😊
Thank you for the post, encouraged me to buy the machine for my wife. my spindle is not running with easel, any ideas?
Can you tell me about which motor you have used for milling and also tell about power supply
Buy a computer that can run cad fast you'll be really thankful you did, but other than that Im impressed with the solidness of this little thing
Do you think this CNC 3018 PRO could work for presicion PCB milling? Thanks. Nice video.
It seems to have done the job just fine.
Hejsan! I purchased a 3018 and cannot get the connection from inkscape to the CNC to work. How do you do that? Tack för hjälpen.
Would it be possible to use this, but remove the head, and use something else on here, like a glue applicator?
The (3d printed?) plastic parts for the entire Z axis and Y axis linear bearing holders disintegrated into dust on my seveal year old machine. Y axis fairly easy to replace bearings; Z axis will take more thought.
You can upgrade to 2.2Kw spider watercooled motor. Brass and Aluminum no problem. And buy a new spider holder for 80mm instead of 50mm stock,
Can you make circles in various sizes with this machine. Also how do you hold down some wood that you are matching on top of the wood that you would have help down on the metal bed. Thanks
Thanks for caring enough to answer my question
Is the machine included the software to engrave or do u have to download software were u can draw en then upload it
at 10:13 How much time did it take to finish the engraving?
Thank you for the video. An idea for the clamps, maybe changing the bolts to longer ones?
Your video was very useful. Thank you. Am about to purchase a CNC. the 3018 PRO is in my sights, and my questions about whether this is a tool that I can learn to use well and joyfully has been answered.
can this be used for brass miniature carving actually?
have you tried that? :)
Thanks for the video
Hi just wondered which version of Eagle software you used on this video please
which software is he using ?
Easel not Eagle. www.inventables.com/technologies/easel you can create a free account.
@@FuzzyScaredyCat Many thanks
Can you cut with that metal?
Thanks
Given the Watts and Speed, I calculated the torque is 1.014 inch pounds
Like you, I am debating the purchase of a CNC. This seems like a cost effective way to check out the tools. Thanks for posting.
How can I buy this type of machine. I am looking at carving out sword handles.
I was listening to back episodes of the 3 Northern Makers podcast and got to the one where you mentioned this CNC and I immediately paused and came here :)
Anyway, currently there's a Vevor 3018 PRO for £120 available in the UK and I was wondering if that's going to be as good as the one in this video? The reviews are few, but not terrible, mostly complaints about the build being difficult.
Hello everyone. Can I use this machine to cut mylar materials for Wall Stencils?
very good , I want know the board machine only driver motors and the machine work by laptop without Arduino and another microprocessor
Thanks for the informative video. Have just built a workshop in my garage for woodworking and thinking of buying one of these to learn basic cnc with!
Would you know if a 3d model can be imported in this software to essentially cut it into a piece of wood? Thank you for your video, very informative.
do you know where I can purchase a replacement board for this
If I will buy it which one is the description of it?
Thanks, I thought that was quite a comprehensive vid on this. I’m not too savvy with the computer side of things but it looked easy enough how you demonstrated it.
hello, i just my machine the same as the one you have in this video. i did all connection and downloaded easel also. however, the Easel does not see the machine. any idea to help?
thank you
can you use soft metals with this machine too? such as aluminium and also what do you mean by machine type is grbl
I was wondering if this machine would be able to hold glass cylinders 3 mm in diameter and around 10 cm in length? I guess the holding assemblies are called chucks? Could you get one for requirement I listed above?
Great video on this, do you know if the VEVOR 3018 Pro CNC Router Laser Engraver Engraving Machine is the same, seen these at good price.
would this be ideal to work on gold for ring making or pendants
Can you use all three axis for a laser?
Can you download designs off the internet using any software. Thanks
