    HI, Thank you so much for making this tutorial. It was so much easier to follow than so many other videos!! I'm just starting out and now it makes sense! I can't wait to get better at this, I love it so much...I have enjoyed getting tattoos for so long, this feels like a natural progression from getting to giving...I have so far to go but I'm loving learning about it all..

    Oh man! I’ve just bought a Coil Machine to stop cutting myself due to depression and start focusing my instability into small tags on my legs. I was able to put it all together but I had an insane need for a simple, laid back and detailed instructional video on the matter. Thanks, bruh!

      I get these free from my work. 😂 yes I have to work while I’m learning to tattoo. I believe this year I’ll be able to tattoo full time. Already got some solid clientele. I did free tattoos for a year. But now. No more free stuff. Some people got mad at that. People get used to getting free tattoos and forget that this is my life 😢

    Hi, Your videos are so helpful. I have a problem though, I set up my machine and it seems (I have no idea) to be running ok, and I managed to tattoo a couple of oranges but sometimes the needle slides from side to side in the tube while I'm doing a line. Even if i'm really slow and careful and sometimes when it does slide to the edge of the tube it make the needles go really deep and I know that's not right...What am I doing wrong?

    • @athomastattoo
      @athomastattoo  4 года назад +3

      There could be a few issues. The main thing I’d check is the tension on the needle bar, as in the bend and the bands. And the orientation of the needle in the tube.

    Hi, nice tutorial with many extra tips and tricks. However, I would've loved more of a close-up point of view of the macine assembly. I'm trying to assemble my very first machine, for the very first time, with no specific tutorial available. Might you consider making a slow, beginner friendly walk-through of how to assemble a coil machine, the functions of all the parts, how to connect to power, how to pick up ink; in short: a 101 lesson for those starting at level 0?

    what does the contact screw/contact set screw do? I don't think you said anything about that in the video. I think that's what it's called, I looked up a labeled picture of parts and that's what it said.

    I recently used a machine for the first time on myself, but had the needle way too far out, didn't realize to actually correct it when setting up. And it also kept jamming, so the little curve would help on that department I suppose.

    please let me know if I’m wrong, but if you undo the screws on the grip after the tattoo session, they’re contaminated right ? don’t you contaminate your your screwdriver and cross contaminate your next grip then ?
    I always use single use grips but I actually like the steel ones more, the only reason I don’t use them is I don’t want to buy an autoclave.. they’re so pricey

    • @TL-angzarr
      @TL-angzarr 2 года назад

      You are actually correct. I have never seen anyone use a grub screw grip with disposable tips. You can easily find a set up like I use the grips use a collet to close and don't require a tool just a quarter turn.

    • @TL-angzarr
      @TL-angzarr 2 года назад +1

      Oh but to be thorough though you should still autoclave the grips between uses even if you use disposable tips. While small just like the grub screw there is a chance for ink to climb the needle bar or spray to contaminate the inside of the tube so it needs to be disinfected and sterilized also. I don't know in your area but in mine the best source for autoclaves are dental supply companies. Those that sell used equipment will usually have autoclaves in stock where studios have upgraded and you can pick them up relatively cheap. Think of it this way. I have steel tubes that are 25 plus years old and have been used thousands of times. That is far more ecological than disposable tubes and over time it is cheaper. If you are spending 3 to 4 dollars a day on disposables you are only 2 years from paying for an autoclave. Good luck

    does the amount of the rubber bands make any difference, IE: 1 compared to 4??

    • @athomastattoo
      @athomastattoo  3 года назад

      it will make a difference, it will increase the tension on the needle bar the greater the amount of bands. the trick is to find the sweet spot where you have enough tension to stop the movement in the needle but not so that it causes the machine to work harder than I needs to.

    Good info but had a bit of difficulty seing you set up a black machine on a black bench, black gloves too. The overhead shots would have been better as close ups and the bench would them have been ok if you movred the white light so the reflection was under the machine...would have made it clearer and the machine would have looked more three dimensional. Green light might be moody but didn't help the clarity of what you were doing at all.
    Purely creative crit, found the tutorial useful and enjoyed it thanks.

      It all depends where you work and what the laws are. You don't have to bag your machine everywhere even though you should anyways. Clip cords I believe are mandatory everywhere.

    I am just getting into tattooing, I have not done anything on real skin yet just practice skin. The issue I am having is that sometimes the needle does not want to slide and will get caught on the fake skin and like bend and bog out a little. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong there? Do I have too much of the needle sticking out possibly?
