    In the silencer myth, I would have suggested using a suppressor along with a subsonic round. They would have gotten a lot closer to the movie sound!

    • @Dabeyoun
      @Dabeyoun 27 дней назад +5

      Yeah, James saying "it's Hollywood levels" is BS. You watch movies and NOBODY can hear a suppressed gun, we get stuff like that scene from John Wick of both guys shooting each other in a crowd and nobody even noticing.

    • @apawhite
      @apawhite 27 дней назад

      @@Dabeyoun It works in John Wick because the assassins in that are fae folk, and the Good Neighbours only intersect with the mortal plane when they choose to, but otherwise yeah absolutely; and here they called the actual make-up of the sound effect 'nit-picking' for simplicity's sake, instead going with "do silencers actually reduce sound???" which is trivial in comparison.

    • @ultru3525
      @ultru3525 24 дня назад

      only 1000x quieter than the average gunshot sound level of 158 dB 🙄
      128 dB is in the same ballpark as a heavy-duty nail gun or riveter, sure it ain't quiet, but it ain't out-of-the-ordinary like an unsilenced gunshot should would be

    • @airi9673
      @airi9673 23 дня назад

      @@ultru3525 yea 128 dB is only 2 dB lower than a jet engine, there's no way anyone would notice such a low level of sound, especially when the sound is somewhat similar to what they've seen in movies. there's a reason they're called suppressors and not silencers in the real world.

    • @ultru3525
      @ultru3525 23 дня назад

      @@airi9673 that’d be a valid comparison if jet engines made noise for only a second. Obviously if a suppressor made it so a gunshot can be heard for several minutes like a jet engine, it’d be less stealthy than a short, 158 dB, unsuppressed shot

    Wind compressed thru the fan and blown onto the sail(internal force), sail push back the wind to its origin(internal counter force), however, we are not in a vacuum, the air surrounding the boat would also give the pushed-back wind a counter force (external force), thus the boat is being pushed forward, and we’re not breaking any Newton’s law.

    • @airi9673
      @airi9673 23 дня назад

      additionally they're also forgetting the most important part of how sails work and that is by using the vacuum in front of the sail for forward movement, essentially the wind going past would only help in creating a vacuum in front of the sail.
      their research team could have found this out in less than 2 minutes even at the time this was aired

      @@airi9673But if the thrust is coming from the fan attached to the vessel, not a weather system that surrounds the entire vessel, is that pressure differential acting in the same way?... I'm not so sure it would.
      I'm not sure it wouldn't either, but I would have thought it wouldn't produce that same low pressure zone in front of the sail. Surely someone on RUclips has gone more in depth with that aspect of it by now. It's a good point you raise there though and surprising that they missed talking it into account.
      Either way, I think by the time you're producing enough thrust to push the sail forward, surely you're better off to turn the thrust around and use it to propel the vessel forward, like that air boat does anyway. But we already knew that and it's obviously not in the spirit of the question.

    • @C.Fecteau-AU-MJ13
      @C.Fecteau-AU-MJ13 19 дней назад

      @@airi9673Actually, the more I think about it, the more I tend to agree... The air is fluid, so to speak, and increasing the air pressure against the sail would surely cause the sail to move towards the lower pressure on the opposite side.
      Still, I'm intrigued to find a better experiment with a better explanation of that now.

    they often use sounds from real weapons being loaded in movies. but they always forget to load a round in the magazine when they record the sound of a weapon being loaded.
    a pistol or rifle makes a completely different sound if there is no round being fed in to the chamber. it sounds kind og hollow-ish.
    and the suppressed pistol sfx movies always use are just ridiculous. it always sounds like a dwarf firing his tiny Laser gun.
    why not record a real supressed pistol shot, and then change it alittle on a computer if needed

    there are special guns and (obviously sub sonic) ammo that can recreate assassin weapons in movies though

    You can really tell this is one of the last 2 seasons of Mythbusters by how "sanitised" and "made-for-television" it is. Not quite sure how to describe it but everything feels a whole lot more scripted and less natural compared to prior seasons. Something just seems different in the final 2 seasons

      It isn't, tho.
      This is episode #165 and is from 2011 (or, as put here, season 8). The OG-Mythbusters, with Adam and Jamie, went till 2016 and finished with episode #245 (usually counted as season 14). So this episode is about a tad over halfway point. Which you can also tell by the build team being still around (and even they were up until 2014).
      (note - I'm not counting the last season of the Mythbusters' brand, which had new guys. Can't replace Jamie and the glorious mustache, it's just not the same)

    There is no physics contradiction. This entire experiment was pointless and silly. It's basic stuff. The high pressure that exists at the rear of the prop or jet has higher thrust (or pushing force) so it's only natural that it could blow the sale. I can't believe they even wasted their time on this.
