Reward a cheap Harbor freight welder. By tying all the neutrals together right at the main power input And taking the main power input to the switch and from the switch right to the transformer. It had twice the power after doing that all so.Put a heavy duty power cord on it And made it a lot longer.
Tinman mig is the way to go just Fyi with flux core wire you don't need the shield. It will give you a better view of your weld. What really helped my welding was an auto darkening helmet.
I’m pretty sure that felt pad is meant to be a spring to apply a bit of friction to the spool. Put a bit of load on it before you tighten up the hose clamp
On real think weld stock, use a short stich weld. Hit the trigger, tack, stop and move to next location about 1/2" away. Continue this pattern until weld complete. Same deal welding on a car today.
A welder is just a tool, its the dude that pulls the trigger that makes the difference between a good and bad job. I have all the faith that you can make that thing do some good things. You are smart enough to do whatever you need to do.
Hey Tinman, another fellow mentioned already, ditch the nozzle, you don’t need it for flux core, gives better visibility without it. You can play with your arc length (wire stick out) which will slightly change your voltage, sometimes you can find a sweet spot between voltage click settings on a cheapie welder. Be sure to drag the puddle just like you’re stick welding to get proper flux/slag shielding of the puddle. It looked like in one clips there instead of moving the nozzle side to side to burn into the toes of the weld you were moving in and out which will change your arc length. It’s all subtle, but it all helps to get a better weld, keep rocking on Tinman! Greetings from BC btw 👍
Good timing I just grabbed a little mastercrap stick welder on sale for exactly the same purpose. My only issue is my shop is tiny, cluttered and too often used for woodworking projects to be welding in there and we’ve got the old Canadian flu on the ground for a couple more months
Takes a big man to show himself learning to weld here. Hoping this helps. Your right about the helmet. Those burn brighter then stick machines. If your seeing blue dots after welding. You’ll need a darker shade to protect your vision. Only other thing I can say is untwist the whip and give the wire the smoothest path. It’ll make for a more consistent feed. Only chiming in cause you help me. Cheers
Your welder is supposed to have a coil spring behind your wire spool so when you tighten down your nut it puts tension against your spool to keep it from rat nesting on you, also, you can weld up to 3/6 thick with that welder, you just go slower to get your penitration, I started off with a cheap 90.00 harbor freight welder to go with my old Lincoln 225 tombstone ...used it for many years b4 passing it on to my son when I got a nicer Lincoln century wire feed.....when you're use to a stick, it definitely takes some getting use to, my 1st tries with a wire feed looked like a porkypine....love your vids....I've learned much...who says you can't teach an old dig new tricks....Garry, nor cal....USA
Can't beat it for the price! As you said, practice makes perfect👍🏻 With a little more practice and playing with settings, you should be able to weld down to 16 gauge pretty easily. Should be much nicer for making pipes than your stick welder!
Oh my sir, i was wondering how your heater was working out, but when you said "-42 yesterday " i guess the heaters golden. My goodness, ill not complain about cold for awhile.
never knock the cheepo welders,I first lit an arc on an A/C 110v stick that my dad pulled out of the trash. Pulling 6 in the US now welding with a decent 'side gig'. We all start somewhere,if it works,it works!
I got rear ended in my S10 truck which bent the rear frame, tailgate & bumper pretty bad... I went to the junkyard & found a used bumper, tailgate & section of rear frame, I cut off with a sawzaw. I used the HF old blue model 120V flux core wire welder. To weld the new frame section in & it held for over 10+ years.
A thing that might help you see the puddle is get a fluxcore tip cover they’re small black plastic material cover the one that’s on the gun now is for gas (MIG) setup Another thing that help me is a set of straight reader glasses I tried wearing my bifocals and it was very difficult to see through my helmet
For most pipe work, run on high power and about 3 feed. S 7:44 hould be a spring on the wire bale fork. If it doednt feed correctly from spool, try turning drive wheel around. May also have to take gun apart and clip off a short chunk of inner liner.
high voltage. High wire speed. And REALLY long stick out. And zap welding. This works well when trying to weld thin metal with fluxcore. Same way BondoBilly RUclips welds sheet metal.
I just uploaded a video of me building a pipe with my flux core. I think the tubing was way to thin I had a lot of blowouts. But hey we are hear to learn on RUclips! Stay warm!
Went from -10 to raining heavily yesterday , today it was +6 and no rain . Got the ice shield on the roof of my new house , last week I was sheeting the roof in the snow , and it was incredibly slippery . I worked with welders in the gas plant , and they heat the steel before welding , gets rid of the moisture . 👍🇨🇦
I bought an Amazon mig after my 30 year old Campbell Hausfeld finally died after being abused, left out in the rain, used to "lazarus" a bunch of old car batteries, etc, etc, because I couldn't find anything used for less, It was a good unit, try to keep the gun and whip bends to a minimum, for smoothest wire feed. It welded up to 1/8 inch mild steel pretty good. Sore dick deal for $25, (you can't beat it) !!. Expansion pipes are easy if you have a pressure washer, tons of vids here about it......
I don't think they were bad welds at all hey love the channel I just saw something I think would be cool for you they where using a blow torch to show how the port work changed the flow on a cylinder I tried to email it to you but it wouldn't work email invalid
You welded. It helded. Great video Tinman!

I knew you were going to bird nest the wire. I got a good laugh out of that.

Nice scoop, add some gas and it will clean it right up. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

When you are flux core welding, using the opposite polarity from gas welding will give you better penetration with less spatter.

I’ve had some good luck with the yes welder wire , it lays down some good beads and it seems to be a lot cleaner
I had the same problem of not being able to see the puddle. Use your reading glasses under your hood. It helped me alot.
I also wrap some type of tape around the spool of wire before I try to feed the wire into the gun Works for me 🤷♂️
Oh my sir, i was wondering how your heater was working out, but when you said "-42 yesterday " i guess the heaters golden. My goodness, ill not complain about cold for awhile.
Nice job man 👍👍
Best bet for pipes...tig. mig will work ok but....keep the grinder close.

Princess Auto for groceries! I'd be up for that!

Pretty good deal and it seemed to work well
Wasn't hearing a fan go on that welder. And flux core welding thin steel is booger welding!

Thank you Sir!!
grinder and paint make me the welder I ain't😅
U need tension on the spool so it dont unspoken, and when u let go of trigger it dont keep spooln, to a stop
Also can weld with cone if ur not using gas, might be easier
Keep up the great content!
The temperature difference between your place in Canada and my place in Australia is 84 degrees. Mad.
😮 ...
Yep it's true when we start to warm up here you guys start to cool off.
I just uploaded a video of me building a pipe with my flux core. I think the tubing was way to thin I had a lot of blowouts. But hey we are hear to learn on RUclips!
Stay warm!
Holly that's COLD🥶! 7 celsius today in Raincouver BC!
It's -9 right now, warmed up quit a bit here.

Princess Auto groceries lmao
That CH is no joke. I put many hours on one
-42deg that should up the duty cycle a bit 😁
👍
Too painful Tinman . lol
Better than I can do.
Why don't you put isolator on your skid steer then your battery won't go flat
That welder is supposed to have a non for tension for the wire
I think the quote you're looking for is "I don't know how to weld but I can make metal stick together"
I don't know how to weld but man can I grind!!
Metal is just big boy playdough
I do gorilla welds. Ugly but strong as hell 😂
Might as well leave that shield off it's useless with without gas and it's much easier to weld without it in the way
"brazing steel"
It looks like the polarity is wrong.
With flux core you reverse polarity.
Weld done! 🙄
