The Wall is kind of a concept album, it tells a story about a rockstar named Pink from his childhood, losing his dad in the war when he was little and being raised by his over protective mom to his disillusionment with stardom, separation from his wife and alienation from the world and complete emotional breakdown. Some of the songs are short because they're just fragments of the story. That's the album in a few sentences.
Great summary of the alblum! Bravo!
It is a concept album. to me the best concept album ever made
That’s why a movie goes with it so creative!!
@@matthewtorres9075 would rumors by fleetwood mac be a concept album
@@joe-jq6cx no.it has to do with there lives but there's no unifying story that runs through it.
Love how you elaborate on your thought process. Don't change that.
The Wall is my favourite, and definitely the most theatrical (The Roger Waters Concert of it is probably even better than the movie).
Don't change your process whatsoever. Love hearing your thoughts. Fresh ears, modern mind... it's cool.
This kid is just a good egg. Totally can't identify with using another person as a whipping boy to make themselves feel better. And his mom should be proud too not being able to even get in the headspace of the someone who would abuse and then say don't leave me now.
Just reposting because the video got blocked so I had to trimout a couple of things tried keeping as much as I can sorry guys.
This album is the life story of a character called "Pink" who's living in a very dystopian world. It has many references to aspects of Rogers own life, his father being killed serving in ITALY in WW2 while Roger was just a baby. Also by the time the album was being made Rogers relationship with the bands and the fans was a little fraught.
Its ok man
It's ok...good try...they try to block great music all the time 😢
Your analysis of the story behind the wall is excellent!!
Don't be offended by the racist lyrics that you will hear in the upcoming songs as they're just a part of the story.
The band had no intention of being racist in this album.
They're just trying to portray the terrible state of mind that the character is in.
pf70 thanks for the heads up and it’s fine anyways I’m not easily triggered and Ik this was made in a different time also but appreciate u for watching 🙏🏾
I'm just listening with you man. Most underrated reactions. The movie is 100% worth checking out.
Side 1: Early Childhood/School Trauma
Side 2: Adulthood/Lust/Depression
Side 3: Depression cont…
Side 4: FUCKING WEIRD (Descent into Madness)
This album came out one year before I was born. I discovered it first when I was 17. It, and then Pink Floyd in general, has changed my life. I'm still listening to their music over 25 years later. I LOVE young people today experiencing and getting this music.
You are very good keep it up - love the Floyd
"Mother did it need to be so high."
Refers to the wall Roger has built around himself.
He is basically telling his mom that he appreciates her caring about him but did she have be be quite so overprotective.
A little context: Roger Waters who wrote most of the lyrics on this album, lost his father in WW2.
I believe Roger's mom became overprotective of her children after that.
Here's a scene from the movie, "The Wall."
Might explain it better.

You can relate to this album in stages as you get older. When you've had a series of failed relationships, kids, divorce, infidelity, addictions, loved ones dying - real grown man pain - it hits you really hard. The bricks that you used to build the wall you now carry around in a sack on your back and as you get older you add more bricks and your burden gets heavier.
You got that exactly right!!! It's almost like if you listened to this album when you were younger you might have understood what it means but you really don't fully understand what it means until you have lived life with all of the things that can happen. I am so glad you posted this. I lost my wife of 26 years a couple of years ago and for some reason I was drawn to this album again. Maybe therapy or just solace not exactly sure but I defiantly could relate more.
you ought to find a way to let go of that bag, friend. at least before you get to the point of relating to the "In The Flesh." part of the album.
You got it. The wall is psychological
Didn't have to get older. I was 3 years old, which is when first true memories are made. Had a tank shoot at my building and a sniper trying to kill me when the Russians got me to safety. Came to the states with a USSR passport and a lot of demons. Fuck I wish I was older. Sure you have no idea how it is to shake from fear when you hear fire works and nightly nightmares.
Don't build a wall, let it go...never understood why people build walls when it comes to emotions
You are wise beyond your years! I loved your analysis of The Wall. I’ve been listening to this record for decades and I am still discovering new things about the story and the music. Great stuff!
I couldn't possibly pick a favourite album........they're all brilliant! Love your reactions. Your observations are so intelligent
I’ve got to say you’ve blown me away with your insight and how you seem to just get things that honestly I wouldn’t expect in most guys your age. The background on the band- the stories are pretty fascinating. Love following along your musical journey! ❤️
Amazing reaction! I love how you show us your thoughts too, The Wall is a fantastic concept album with deep and dark lyrics. Thanks Roger!
Totally just randomly found your channel. LOVE watching you experience for the first time something that I've treasured for so many years.
So great to see young people enjoying the classics! The movie the Wall was way ahead of it's time! Definatly watch the movie. I sugest smoking a dobbie or blunt first.
Digging the reaction. This album is so powerful and meaningful.
I’m okay with the edits. I totally understand how it is necessary to prevent being blocked.
This album is several songs that make up the story of one man’s journey into self-isolation and madness. Each song describes events in his life that add one, or more, bricks to the emotional wall he has built around him throughout his life, starting with a father who goes off to war and dies and an over-bearing mother raising him on her own. And he progresses to school which is a minefield for kids with insecurities.
Professionally, he becomes a successful rock star and even a cult leader of sorts but, as his career ascends, his self-loathing also ascends and it manifests into psychological and physical abuse of his loved ones and followers. He marries but hooks up with groupies regularly while on the road, but then takes an emotional gut punch when he discovers that his wife is entertaining her own lovers while he is away. Side I ends with his initial attempt at suicide via alcohol and drug overdose. He fails at this and Side II starts with his recovery from the drug overdose. Meanwhile, the abusive tendencies grow to large proportion with the movement he leads.
Ultimately, at the height of all this, he finally has a mental breakdown and, in his mind, puts himself on trial for the abuses he has done and the man he has become.
It’s an awesome story and each song captures the raw emotion of its subject matter. I’m looking forward to your reaction to Side II.
Don't leave me now is an amazing, dramatic piece of art. Full of self pity and the borderline insanity he doesn't see that it's all his fault. This sounds like depression to me and is perfectly captured as a dramatic performance. I didn't like it at first but have come to see a it as very special.
You should have 3m views on this. Reacting to this whole album. Awesome getting to listen to it with you. Merry Christmas 🎄
The opening vocals of the first song. He looks at the camera, nods his head, smiles knowingly and says "Roger Waters". You know yer a PF fan when you know who is singing by the sound of their voice. This album came out in my senior year in high school and it was all over the radio, a huge hit for my generation. It was also my entry point for PF. I remember playing the album from start to finish, 4 sides of 2 vinyl discs. It was like taking a journey and when it was over, I always felt a little wrung out and road weary.
Love watching yer reactions.
Don't worry about the rambling. Most people do it because they through alot of heavy shit at once. At least your wearing headphones. Makes the music so much better.
Meddle is where Pink Floyd really found their feet for me 😊
Agreed! First album where they full have "their style" and arguably the first concept album, if you count the blatant exploration of Romanticism in poetry and music that permeates the entire album! Sublime

This was my first album i listened to when was 11 my brother had it in his bedroom playing it all the time so i said whats that music your playing he said pink floyd the wall i had never herd of them becouse i was born in 1970 so he played the whole album for me both sides i was blown away then u went down the rabbit hole of pink floyd been hooked ever since helped me alot through my younger years pink floyd are real man diffrent to everybody else every album from dark side onwards has a hiiden message on life best band ever created enjoy man
Jason Parsonange I truly agree every album I’ve listened to so far has been relatable in some way a lot of the stuff they speak on is what I believe everyone has felt or experienced in their life no matter how different or what generation we are growing up in you will find something u can relate to.

So sweet watching how l shoulda watched in my "hay day" (l'm 60), but for the drugs, through your young, clear
yet insightful eyes.
Thumbs up bud!
The entire album, start to finish, Some good indica, a dark room with a black light, and a great set of headphones so there are no distractions, and go for a ride...
Great, in-depth analysis. Pretty much nailed everything. Just a couple things: Pink's (and Roger's) dad died in WW2 so that's why he wasn't there. The Wall is a metaphor for isolating himself from other people, because from everyone he know he only got suffering so obviously now he's not going to trust anyone anymore. And the abused turning abuser thing indeed also comes out in Pink himself when he's "beating his wife to a pulp"... that song is really deep because it shows the perverted mechanism of that kind of possessive abuse, he's abusing her but he's so self-centered he still thinks it's fine and that she is the one hurting him because she is running away instead of taking it. Chilling and painfully true 🙁
(And yes, your analysis is amazing, never change, and enjoy. From the remaining Pink Floyd albums, most of which deserve at least a listen, I would suggest Meddle and The Final Cut, and The Division Bell for the latter period without Roger. Have fun! 😉)
It is so great, so great to have someone as young as you, different nationality, different race, obviously different generation enjoying the music of my youth. Heart warming actually - it shows there is so much we can share no matter of differences or perceived differences.
I feel the same way, David. Very heartwarming. I think the kids today are not getting what we got with music. The depth of it. I saw this concert in Atlanta in 1987 and it was a religious experience for sure.
"feels like a disco song" that's exactly what gilmour had in mind for it. You're the first I've seen to recognise that!! Keep it up!!
You are very good keep it up - love Pink Floyd
Your level of understanding of what's going on without having seen the film is incredible. You should definitely watch it, the whole Wall thing will make sense then. You're not too far off though. I'm off to watch part 2.
Loving your reaction. If you can find the movie, yes, watch and react. The album tells a story.
I was waiting for your reaction to empty spaces/young lust... not disappointed 😊
You're good at this. There are more layers. Don't stop.
I love this video man
I like that you actually checking lyrics too
He didn't commit suicide, he's walling himself in and blocking others out. Love the reaction man!
The Wall is NOT the chill album. Lol. Its all about rage, and loneliness, and abandonment. Its dark as shit, and in your worst moments its HARD not to remember once you know it.
Watch out for this one, man.
Good stuff Jony
When this album came out I could only listen to about half of it. As time went by the parts I didn't like started to grow on me until I loved it all. It's not the same sort of record as the earlier one's, this is more of an audio play and there are parts that I didn't like that now are my fave bits.
I appreciate you really trying to understand the album...it's *very* deep. Fav lyrics She won't let you fly but she might let you sing (from Mother) & the child is grown, the dream is gone (from Comfortably Numb)...so very poignant.
Glad you listened to the album and not the movie!!!👍✌️👌🎶🎵😁
What's wrong with the movie I love the movie.
You should react to Rogers solo albums.
The Pros And Cons Of Hitch Hiking
Radio K.A.O.S.
Amused To Death
Yeah, that's it you've got it. He hasn't killed himself, but he's completed the Wall he's building around himself from the world. The first half is all about the building of the wall against all the pain and misery he's endured through his life. The second half is about tearing it down again.
I don't know how to explain the tears I have shed.
Can't... It's like a religious experience, at least for me. Many tears were shed at different times listening to this album.
My mom passed away when I was 18. She loved me, but she helped build my wall! Thats the point! Don’t live behind the isolation of the wall! TEAR DOWN THE WALL!
“I can really roller skate to this” 😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 you are alright!
The movie to this is wicked
Sad fact: the song “What shall we do now,” which was supposed to be after Empty spaces, was completely removed from the album due to the fact that the song was taking up most of space on the record. You can actually listen to it on the movie adaption of the album, and also on the live album as well. I’ll drop a link so you can check it out
ruclips.net/video/x5pVBQ-21mk/видео.html
Edit: I found another song. It’s called “The last few Bricks,” and it’s only available on the live album. It’s not really that special, since it’s just a grouping of melodies from previous songs, but I’ll still drop a link for you to checkout

10:11 I felt you feel that 😂 that part always gets me grooving
That disco vibe you felt was, indeed, a disco vibe. It was the height of the disco era, and everybody slipped a little disco beat into at least a couple of their songs '77-'79. The worst culprit was Kiss's "I Was Made For Loving You." Check that one out to either: a) have a good laugh, or; b) shake yer bootie, as it does have a groove.
We laughed our asses off at it when it came out, as it was the antithesis of everything Kiss was supposed to be (i.e. hard/heavy rock). Now, it's a nostalgic trip for me, and I give it a pass. But I've never been a big Kiss fan, either.
But yeah...damn near everyone got some disco laid down for posterity. Heh heh heh
this album is an absolut masterpiece
30 year's from now and you'll still have this album, on whatever they may be on then. You think I'm shitting you!! Watch

The Wall was the greatest I’ve ever experienced!!!🎶🎵👌👍✌️😎
It’s an experience for sure!
Nice
What a crazy idea playing concert behind a wall.
The start of the album scared the hell outta me when I first listened
Cool fun fact is roger waters wrote the wall and his first solo album at the same time, after leaving Floyd his solo album is called " the pro''s and con's of hitchhiking " he said in an interview that he brought both almost fully concieved albums ( basic music outlines and lyrics concepts etc) to the rest of the band and let them decide which one they would prefer to work on. Then david had the basic structure for comfortably numb already written and run like hell which fit in perfect. Also in the movie there is a scene with pink back stage (he's a rock star) and he's in a bathroom stall writing lyrics which are part of pro's and cons.. Kinda cool. It too is really good. Eric Clapton plays lead guitar on that album. It has a similar familiar feel kinda?? but more acoustic and focused on love and loss..
Jason Feather comfortably numb was my first PInk Floyd song so it’s nice to hear this also thanks for the fun fact/ info I’m planning on watching the movie so I’ll keep a eye out for that part
@@fiendjony778 if you listen to the album "pro's n con's" b4 u see the movie, you'll catch it. Its the ending lyrics of the album. Like the last 3 verses. I know you recorded this a year and half ago. But I really recommend checking out the live 1980 concert version album called "Is There Anybody Out There?" Side One adds one song which is alright. I personally really enjoy Side 2 of the concert, but the way I used to listen to it was Side 1 Original Album and Side 2 Concert album. Maybe you could do a reaction to that album. There are also 2 other concert albums. There's the 1990 Album set at the Berlin Wall performed by multiple artist. Then there is the 2010 Roger Waters album.
Actually high school was worst time in my life. My life took off when I left that place!
Btw, the best way to see the movie is to watch it in a (music) cinema with a wide screen
nice job kid
The Wall...great Rock Opera
This video is one year old now. So have you seen the movie in the year since this video was made? If not, I suggest that you do as soon as you can. Put aside a day to watch it, because you'll need the rest of the day to unpack what you just watched.
I can also recommend "Division Bell" album, but its not that good as the others you already heard (at least for me), and it was made without Roger Waters.
All the pf albums are real great but there is something about THE WALL that make it my fave one
Sorry for comment bombing but.... I bet you would make an amazing therapist or social worker or detective or something like that. You really have amazing insight
Every lytic is important, building “The Wall”
Yeah you really should watch the movie of the Album... very thought provoking movie. Featuring Bob Geldof (Boomtown Rats) as the main character.
Roger Waters isn’t nearly as a good a singer as David Gilmour or Rick Wright but he puts out straight raw emotion
Exactly! He can't sing or shred like Dave but man the shit he puts out in his lyrics are absolutely phenomenal
It’s personal isolation and breaking free from it! Parts of his life were just bricks in the wall, time to tear down!
It's a concept. Every moment has a place and every piece is intricate to the concept. Learn the concept then enjoy.
14:43 exactly!
The wall is the definition of Bipolar Disorder. I have bipolar disorder and listened to this all the time when I was depressed or going through a hypomanic episode
The film will clarify several points of the story. Side two is just as good if not better than side one.
Any Floyd fans who have not yet heard Roger Waters third solo album "Amused to Death", do your self a favour and give it a listen. It is one of the few albums that can proudly stand alongside Floyd's best. Roger waters lyrics are sublime.
I totally agree and support the value of the "solo" Waters.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid it's a bit premature suggestion.
Probably the "reheated soups" of the 1990s and 2000s will be examined first. We hope that the relative commercial and business aspects and implications will not be evaded ... dominated as they are by the need to "appear" under the label "Pink Floyd" without any more be that.
Do The Final Cut , final Floyd album before Waters leaves .
Delicate sound of Thunder is a Floyd live album, worth a listen too - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delicate_Sound_of_Thunder
the album is a movie, it was shown in cinemas back then...basically the soundtrack
There is a Movie to go with this album. The art work and music is awesome.
The movie explains a lot
Watch the movie now 😁👍
This tells the story of a man named Pink. The first two songs are Pink being born and the troubles that were going to occur in his life being foretold in The Thin Ice. In Another Brick in the Wall it talks about Pink’s father who was killed in war a little before he was born. The song is Pink asking what his father left behind for him, and the death of his father made Pink’s mother become overprotective. The Greatest Days of Our Lives and Another Brick in the Wall part 2 are obviously about the teachers he had in his academy that would “torture” him and the kids. The lyrics “another brick in the wall” means the teachers and his father becoming just another brick in his metaphorical wall that is closing him off from society. Mother is about his overbearing mother telling him that she will always be with him and never let him leave her grasp, which eventually contributes to his wall as well. Empty Spaces tells about Pink’s failing marriage later life and Young Lust is after they have broken up and Pink becomes hooking up with girls to fill the void after his wife left. This also explains the phone ringing at the end of the song of him trying to call his wife but she never answers him.One of My Turns is him basically having a bad turn when he invites a girl over and he trashes his apartment, scaring her off in the process. The following song Don’t Leave Me Now is him regretting what happened with his wife and falling into depression because of it. Another Brick in the Wall Part 3 is him finally placing the final bricks in the wall and completely sealing himself off from the rest of the world. Goodbye Cruel World further acknowledges this as it is him saying goodbye to everything and hiding behind his wall for the rest of his life. That is a quick summary of Side 1, and Side 2 is essentially what I think is him trying to tear down the wall he built after finding out it is only making his life worse.
EpiX Immortal Thanks for the summarization really appreciate it after I listened to part 2 of the album a lot of it became clear to me Imma watch the movie to understand everything more also
@@fiendjony778 Just to be clear, this isn’t a soundtrack to the movie. The movie is a visualtrack to the album.

You gotta watch the movie
Watch the movie it brings it to life more
Right. Did the wall need to be so high
Great to see you are being dragged into the PF vibe and experience. You are about to become a PF expert, but watch out. You're interest in them and their music is can be (pleasantly) addicting😉
Nard Jansen Too late for that 😭
Hey Jony watch the wall concert full not the movie the wall but the concert …. Blow your mind
Did you notice at the very beginning, Roger says, "Where we came in..."......at the end, he says, "Where we left off"
Sorry, but this is slightly inaccurate roger say at the end “isn’t this where” and at the beginning he says “we came in”. The album is a perfect loop
you are right world war 2 london.....they were alive kids 1945 hell i was born in 1948 ...remember bad times here the bomb thru the 50's

Its so complicated, but not hard. Death of his dad, over-bearing mother, cheating wife (whom he cheated first) brinks in the wall!!
