I learned the main riff of this song when i first started playing for an audition. i thought i was the sh*t because of it. After revisiting and learning the song in it's entirety i realized i was being a dumb kid because this was actually a challenge and the main riff is probably the easiest part lol. Anyways i really tried and it was fun and sometimes grueling and i think the sound of a metronome will trigger me from now on. i hope you enjoy!

I haven't picked up a bass in years, and every time I tried to play this it just sounded like muddy garbage. (And it wasn't the instrument, it was because I sucked.) This is so clean.

I used to slow a reel to reel tape recorder down to half speed to try and figure out runs. I did that with The Spirit of Radio and that's how I figured out the run, except Geddy Lee's notes were too low and unintelligible, so I had to go by what Alex was playing to figure it out.

Its definitely a pain but it’s a lot of fun. My biggest tip would be to learn it in sections. Master that section before moving on to the next etc

I look at your right hand and think, "Okay. I can do that. I know how to use my fingers to get more notes in each beat."
Then I look at your left hand and just throw my hands in the air.
I have been playing bass off and on for years and still haven't managed to develop the speed and dexterity needed to make them fly across the frets like that.

Jared M Actually considering the song as a whole, a lot of the work is being driven from the right hand. The raking makes it look like it’s not much but keeping it up and to speed almost nonstop for the whole song is where it gets strenuous. The left hand is pretty consistently at a like difficult level but definitely those runs were such big pains in the ass, but there’s only a handful of them so during the riffs in between you get like a little resting period for your hand kind of. If that makes any sense.
This song I was asked as proof a few years ago to confirm me as the bassist of the "band". I took it as a compliment

You might be interested in some Gentle Giant. I think I could recommend "The Runaway" or "In a Glass House" or "Experience," all of which are from the "In a Glass House" album. They have interesting bass parts.

Invincible Warrior tool and rush were huuuuuge in my shaping as a musician when I was first starting so their music has always been very meaningful to me! They really are legendary bands. But I’ve been thinking of doing something from another pillar in music.... here’s a hint: what’s the opposite of NO?

The nose ring...the hair... the makeup. This is the most glamorous cover of YYZ on the net.
And that's to say nothing of the accuracy! Most covers will also be doing Geddy's effects and tone on the piece but I actually adore that you didn't and it made every single note so much sharper and really shows you committed yourself to mastering it. Amazing!
Something sounds...off I can’t place my finger on it. The playing is obviously fantastic but it sounds slower somehow I’m not sure
