Young NBA fans really underrate Tim Duncan. It sounds crazy to say but it's true. As a Knicks fan, watching a second year player demolish your team like that turned me into a Duncan fan for the rest of his career. Greatest PF of all time.

people underrating duncan cause they never watched him play from 1997-2007...shame...the dude was as good as anyone besides mj imo overall...that 1999 spurs team and the 03 team were not that talented and 07 was on fumes..05 was them at their peak together ......he was hard to beat unless you had shaq and kobe at their primes scoring 30 each on his head ...while his 2nd option could not get even 15...

To think in year 2 he won 12 straight playoff games out west and 13 out of 14 going into game 3 of the finals as the clear first option with his 2nd option not even avg. 16 is crazy considering he beat shaq kobe rice then brandon mitchell and kg and then sabonis damon grant and sheed...teams led by guys he had to match-up with nightly at his position...lets not forget spreewell houston camby johnson...man went 15-2 and lost 1 playoff game on the road out of 9 and won all 6 road playoff games vs west teams that season...that's amazing to think about...he won games by 3 and 1 and he won close games in the high 70's mid 80's or by double digits helping his team score 118 on the road....that's crazy

The 90s and till the early 2000s
    1. When teams played hard-nosed defense
    2. No soft fouls or unnecessary stoppages
    3. Every single championship was valued. Making the playoffs was valued.
Now it's just superstars chasing money and chasing rings by forming super teams.

It's an offensive league now. A lot of this guys played great d. That doesn't cut it now.
If you can't shoot a three you can't play. It's like a cheat code 1 dimensional game now.
I agree with you playing inside and running plays doesn't cut it anymore.

The knicks had more than enough talent to win more games in this series. Plus had a very underrated coach in van gundy. Who is in my eyes the possibely the 2nd or 3rd best coach the knicks ever had. Van gundy had more heart an determination to win than most players in the nba. Houston with his 100 millon contract an larry johnson played horrible. If those 2 played elite this series could have been different. Ewing being hurt put alot of pressure on camby an kurt thomas. Going against the twin towers alone. The knicks had their own twin towers in camby an ewing. This series was not lost by coaching, but by players not playing to their elite levels.

What's strange is that the Spurs are a southern team. Duncan and Robinson were nicknamed the " Twin Towers ". Their jersey numbers of 50 and 21 equal 71. The same year that the Southern Tower had it's topping out ceremony July 19, 1971 (71). The Spurs would win IN New York, with both Duncan and Robinson in all black (symbolizing death of the Towers).
