I much preferred when you actually took a pause in your speech when you have your "alright if you had a chance to look at that " moments. It felt more organic and this gives a rushed and less personal feel to your videos. Small but important detail IMO. Not a huge deal just my honest take on this. Love your videos Nelson !
I agree - it seems this video has been edited differently to Nelson's usual videos, and the pauses have been taken out, which makes it more difficult to follow. I find Nelson's usual delivery fantastic, and I hope he'll reconsider this change for future videos.
Nelson, these natural pauses have become such a signature style of your tutorials and one of the many reasons your videos are so easy to follow and great to watch, especially for us beginners.
I learnt chess with the book "The game of chess", but in the German original ("Das Schachspiel"). For me Tarrasch is the GOAT, and even some of his theories are outdated, still it gives a great lecture. By the way: Tarrasch is pronounced on the first syllable and with two short "a". I like your videos!
There many good chess channels. Chess Vibes one of the best of them, and yes, maybe regarding as a chess teaching channel for below 1500 Elo players, it can be even the best.
16:29 Here i thought of Nh4+ which is a fork. White's knight is pinned, so he takes with the pawn. That allows Rg5+ discovered attack on white's undefended queen
Sure, but you’re going to lose a rook and a knight, 8 points of material for a queen, 9 points of material, and the queen attacking by itself is quite difficult. Nh4+ gxh4 Rg5+ hxg5 Qxb7 And you’re looking at a position where white can fairly easily set up the dark squared bishop on an outpost on the a pawn or somewhere else and black is going to have a HECK of a time cracking the position with one attacking piece
@AchievesTV I'm actually pretty convinced that black is dominating with a queen vs. bishop & knight + an extra pawn. It would be tricky, but at this level I dont see a way in which white equalizes no matter how well they coordinate their only two minor pieces. If it was a 1500 elo game it would be a different story because black would have to find the method while avoiding any counterplay, however even then I would much prefer black.
@@r33th Agreed, at the end of the day its still +2 material which should be winning regardless and the pawn structure in front of the king will make it even more difficult to defend. That being said, no reason to make it more complicated calculating losing two pieces and evaluating the position with just a queen when Nxd4 gets the job done ;)
My friend, you may definitely add principle11 : use anamy advanced pawns as a shelter for your king. Very often enemy pawns protect your king better than yours😊
At 16:15 in the video where you asked for test yourself, with white Qxb7: how about instead of Nxd4, black played Nh4+ in which case white can either do gxh4 and lose the bishop or move the king and either Nxf3 or Qxf3 depending on where King moves. How does that look?
16:58 on g5. What happens if the bishop takes the pawn. After the rook recapture the bishop, the knight is no longer defended and can be taken by the queen
18:08 - what move do you play ? me: King retreat to h8 Nelson: I hope you didn't said retreat :))) me: aaaaaa. that's because it's a back rank check mate for white next turn ;)
Hey nelson I want to say that even though I haven’t bought your course yet, just by watching your video, especially the book club, I’ve broke 1500 about a week ago
@@worldsbestwatcher3735 yea so I was stuck around that point for over a year. The very main thing is reducing blunders. The biggest part is I stop playing chess seriously on mobile(I still play unranked lichess and stuff) but I mainly play on a computer so that I can use arrows and red squares and it really helps me look at the square I’m about to put a piece on and knight moves specifically. Second is I just ask myself: what is my opponent doing with that move. A used to blunder to pawn move and open a discovered attack from the bishop. Third is to always looks for checks captures and attacks every move for both myself and the opponent. Most tactics are gonna have to do with that. This also applies to most of the pause moments in this series Forth is just rounding out my play in general. I’m usually a very aggressive attacking player, because I play for fun but these videos help me understand pawn dynamics specifically. So if you have some free time, I suggest rewatching the entire playlist and try to find all the pause moments.
@dew9103 I understand the part about how playing on the computer is better than playing on mobile (at our level). The ability to preview a move (on laptop) is very beneficial compared to mobile. I'm working on reducing blunders also. I'm also paying more attention to my opponent to see if THEIR move was a blunder. I actually caught myself several times simply not taking a threat thinking I couldn't and that I had to move MY piece. I'm blaming clock pressure on most of those. 'Continued improvement to you. Thanks.
@16:45 Hello Nelson, Please explain why you use the "down" direction opposite of what appears to be the logical direction of "up" to me. It makes me question myself and wonder if that's one reason why I can't break 1500. Thanks.
He could've gone for knight h4 check instead of knight d4. If white moves the king, black tames knight with knight. If white takes with the pawn, check with the rook in g5 and takes white queen next move
Pardon my stupid question: what drills can be done to master the square designations as quickly as you masters do? I always have to stall and think about it for a bit, like a child adding with their fingers. 😂
Your pronunciation of the name "Tarrasch" is actually quite funny. Sounds if he were French, but he's in fact a German. He is to be pronunced with a "rasch" like in "rushhour".
Is it me or was it this time very little time since Nelson asks the question and gives the answer? I sometimes don't even have time to stop the video to think.
it's better to just memorize every move in the opening instead of the principles like that way you know the exact move you should play in every position

Yeah, I think it was iconic at this point. I even didn't realize he was going to say the answer to one of the puzzles, because he didn't say the line!

another great logical chess series so far, Nelson!

Love this series thanks!
Thanks again - will need to watch this a few times before it sinks in !!
Very nice and simple explanation!!!!

Another great lesson, Nelson. I fell for many of those traps. Those GMs are tricky!
These book club vids always have great titles

Also! After gxh4, there's Rg5+, giving up the rook to win the queen
Nh4+ gh; Rg5+ hg; Qxb2 does indeed seem to be the most forcing way of simplifying down to an easily won endgame.

Amen to that tip.
Also never too early!
How about a breaking 3000? Y'know, since my low rated opponents use stockfish against me.

Do you have any cource for breaking 1700? Or 2000?
It makes so much sense and it's so easy, when it's explained. But on the board, I just suck.
I don't agree with always
material up = trading good.
There is a tendency to blunder and give counterplay. Trading the exchange is good though.

7:22 I would have moved white bishop to attack queen. Is that wrong?
At 18:54 why not rook to d2?
Agreed. It seems to me that the best case scenario for white, rook to b2 is checkmate in 4 moves...
11:00 - I thought about b6 to be followed up by Bb5.
10:05 = Bishops and Rooks are *Meh* 😂😂. Funniest Meh ever
3:27 in the video I thought that Knight to E4 was also a danger for white?
