Colin Mcdowell has stated himself that the APB EQs are Digital. from tape op, When most folks use outboard analog EQ they are looking for that EQ tone (with) a saturation component to the sound. By leveraging a digital EQ design that is also calibrated/complimentary to a saturation circuit setup in the APB-16, I think we can deliver some cool hybrid EQs to folks.

I agree plug-ins have gotten very good in the past decade… but There’s still hundreds of thousands of producers & engineers today using hybrid workflows. Hybrid products like this are a unique game changer for many 👍
I used to swear to use plugins only, but even routing my mixbus through a 20 year old cheap Behringer Eurorack mixer added a tone I just couldn't get. Once I heard how it thickened my bass without making it heavier in the mix, I knew hybrid was going to be my thing. How could I ask a better question in the google search engine to obtain a more accurate search or what websites do you recommend to find a slightly more technical and specialized review on a specific producer or one of his tracks?
I just watched Chris mixing Nickleback on URM academy with one Waves SSL channel plugin and thats it. It sound awesome. He didnt used this overiced box. Why should I?
Yes Plugins sound amazing as I said in the beginning of this video. However, there’s a very good reason that almost every plugin is attempting to “emulate” analog hardware 🤷🏼♂️
@@ReidStefanMusic Yeah, but that game is over. Digital won. All major mix gurus are ITB. Why should I go OTB? Workfloow wise? Its funny to me when someone says "If you can mix on the mouse, good for you. I just cant, I need console." Console is 100k and mouse is 20€. Like im shitting money.

@@MASS_Studios Everyone forgets those "Major mix gurus" are mixing stems that have already gone through a ton of analog gear during tracking. No The plugins don’t run “native” on your computer without the APB connected. The plugins are simply control knobs for the physical circuitry inside the Analog Processing Box
Appreciate all your videos. Question....do you have an independent convertor used for your production and which one if any, or do you use your apollos only?
APB has it’s own High quality converters built-in for it’s internal conversion needs. When I’m tracking vocals or listening to my speakers I’m simply using the converters in my interface. I own both Apollo and Prism Titan interfaces and use both daily.
@@ReidStefanMusic Thanks. Can't afford the APB yet so was just interested in the latter which you answered about using your interface for conversion. So apparently the Apollo suit your needs well. I ask because I like how clear your mixes sound.
I dont understand, i speak sincerely, the unit is analog and it comes with 12 effects, but you can add new ones via software? wouldnt it need a real new analog device to add a new effects?, and how a multiband analog compressor works? would`nt it take a dedicated compressor for each band? so the unit has one analog compressor circuit for each channel, but then everychannel has multiband compressor, so it has like 3 or 4 extra compressors each channel?
Hi there! Each of the APB plug-ins utilize the analog components within the APB in a different way. That's how we're able to have multiple APB compression plug-ins, for example, and have them all sound different. Regarding multi-band functionality: Each band of our multi-band compressor utilizes a channel on the APB. That's why a mono instance uses 3 channels, while a stereo instance uses 6. I hope this clears things up!
I think they are not 100% analog as what i remembered? even though it's definitely a top tier hybrid sound. Honestly I wish they could release a clipper plugin in this way.
Yes however It’s analog where/when it needs to be. Some of the volume and gain knobs are just digital volume controls. It’s a perfect hybrid! Also that clipper idea would be amazing 🔥
@@ReidStefanMusic yeah honestly I appreciate what they did on EQ, I only want the saturation from analog circuits but not the laplace transforms eq adjustments, never thought they solved this dilemma in this way. speaking of this can they add a couple of valves and transformers in next generation?...
Ableton can't run mono instances of APB plugins as Ableton doesnt have the ability to have mono channels as you said. In the video he uses only 8 APB plugins and maxxes out the 16 APB channels, despite some of the sounds being mono in nature such as the vocals. So you are limited to 8 stereo instances no matter if your sounds are mono or stereo by nature.
@@ReidStefanMusic well that's a game changer... But there is ADC and DAC happening, I suppose that's where aliasing fold back could occur but I guess they've thought of everything
UAD plugins emulate analog circuitry whereas APB uses actual analog circuitry (not plugins) to process your audio. The APB plugins are just control knobs for the components inside the green box.
